Alena Brinker
Alena Brinker, 88, of Bremerton died May 15, 2002, at Later Years Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Silverdale to Dan and Petrana (Puletich) Radovich. Her mother died when she was 7 years old.
She was raised by her father and stepmother, Helen (Myers) Radovich. She graduated from Port Washington Bay High School in Silverdale in 1932.
She married
Steven A. "Bud" Brinker in Silverdale in 1934. He died in 1950.
Mrs. Brinker worked as a blueprint machine operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 22 years, retiring in 1973.
She was an avid flower gardener. She also enjoyed walking and travel.
Survivors include a son, William A. Brinker of Bremerton; a daughter, Carol A. Roper and her husband Bill of Bremerton; two granddaughters, Linda M. Roper and Brenda M. Maples, both of Bremerton; and a great-grandson, Kenny Maples of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Melina, Zorka, Percida, Virginia and Leona, and by three brothers, John, Mike and Dan.
At her request, no services will be held. An open house for family and friends will be at 2 p.m. May 26 at her daughter's home.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jerrold Funke
Jerrold Merlin Funke, 57, of Bainbridge Island died May 8, 2002, of cancer at his home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1945, in Bremerton to Theodore and Zelma (Krafczik) Funke. He graduated from West High School in 1963.
Mr. Funke served in the Army from 1967 to 1972, achieving the rank of captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal.
He later worked in the real estate industry and the maritime industry for a total of 30 years. He retired in January 2001 because of illness.
Mr. Funke enjoyed cooking and sailing.
Survivors include his companion, Susan C. Fowler of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Lelaine Keith and her husband John of Belfair; two brothers, Dennis and William Funke, both of Spokane; and three grandchildren, Carrie, Arianna and Noah Keith, all of Belfair. He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.

Don Myers
Don E. Myers, 76, of Bremerton died May 11, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born in 1926 in Oregon City, Ore., to Flora Myers.
Survivors include a son, Douglas K. Myers of Port Orchard; a daughter, Dian R. Marchant of Olympia; two grandchildren, Keith Myers and his wife Elizabeth of Tucson, Ariz., and Cheryle Myers and her companion, Teresa Myers, of Albion.

Tike Nishimori
Tairoku "Tike" Nishimori, 85, of Bainbridge Island died May 10, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Port Blakely on Bainbridge Island to Kirohachi and Tsue (Hamasaki) Nishimori. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1936.
As a young adult, Mr. Nishimori taught judo and competed in tournaments. He attained a fourth-degree black belt in judo.
He married
Chizuko Matsuno on Sept. 18, 1943, in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Mr. Nishimori served in the Air Force as a staff sergeant. He later worked as a technician for a cable TV company in the Seattle area. He retired in 1983.
After retirement, he owned and operated a Christmas tree farm. He enjoyed trips with his family and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Nishimori of Bellevue; two daughters, Janice Nishimori of Bellevue and Jean Divine and her husband James of Bainbridge Island; and five sisters, Masako Muromoto and her husband Kim of Bellevue, Kiyoko Mazie of Bloomington, Minn., Suiko Yonemitsu and her husband Robert of Sedro-Woolley, Matsue Watanabe and her husband Samuel of Seattle, and Shimako Sally Kitano and her husband Tom of Puyallup; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are private. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Martha Benson
Martha M. Benson, 80, of Bremerton died May 16, 2002, of cancer at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1921, in Great Bend, Kan., to Rudolph and Tilda Weber. She graduated from high school in Great Bend in 1939.
She married
Evald S. "Benny" Benson on June 5, 1943, in Great Bend. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Benson was a homemaker. She had worked as an activity director at a nursing home and in retail sales.
She had a wide variety of interests, including quilting and travel. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Benson and his wife Judy of Bremerton and Ted Benson and his wife Linda of Port Orchard; two daughters, Ellen Marie Blanchard of Kingman, Ariz., and Adrienne E. Benson of California; a sister, Mary Ellen LeRoy of Witchita, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Lutheran Church, 10th and Veneta, followed by a graveside service at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Cora Young
Cora Lynette Young, 81, of Port Orchard died May 10, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Fenton and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Russell. She graduated from Franklin High School in Los Angeles in 1938 and from Santa Barbara State Teachers College in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1942.
She married
William C. Young on Feb. 16, 1945, in Los Angeles. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Young taught school in Santa Barbara for more than 20 years. She was also an artist.
She was affiliated with the Methodist church.
Survivors include a son, William A. Young of Coupeville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Tillamook, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Beverley Miller
Beverley Jean Miller, 73, of Port Orchard died May 15, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Glenwood, Iowa, to Thorn and Ruby (McAlexander) Cheyney. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1946.
She married
Donald George Miller in July 1948 in Port Orchard. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Miller had worked as head cook at Orchard Heights Elementary School in Port Orchard for eight years.
She was a lifetime member of the T.C. Baldwin Orthopedic Guild at Children's Hospital in Seattle. Previously, she had served as a Cub Scout den mother, a Blue Bird leader and a Camp Fire leader.
Mrs. Miller enjoyed her family, gardening and cooking. She was a Roman Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, Donald G. Miller Jr. and Robert A. Miller, both of Port Orchard; a daughter, Theresa Collins of Mason Lake; two brothers, Thorn Cheyney of Seabeck and Don Cheyney of Suquamish; six grandchildren, Angela, Kevin, Ross and Darren Miller, and Chad and Carrie Collins; and four great-grandchildren, Estelle and Evan Howard, Trenton Miller and Grace Collins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Cheyney.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Mary Dickson
Mary Ellen Dickson, 76, of Port Orchard died May 11, 2002, in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 3, 1925, in Longmont, Colo., to Clair and Marjorie Crawford.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Dickson of Port Orchard and Joan Froude of Lakewood, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Angela Sturman of Port Orchard and Jessica Sturman of New Orleans.
At her request, no services will be held.
Lawrence Strasser
Former Bremerton resident Lawrence William Strasser, 82, of Ferndale died May 14, 2002, in Ferndale.
He was born in Winneconne, Wis., where he grew up and worked on a farm until entering the Navy in 1940. He served in the Navy during World War II.
After leaving military service, Mr. Strasser worked as a machinist and a mechanic until retirement in 1982. He had been employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1972 to 1979.
His wife of 55 years, Evelyn, preceded him in death. He is survived by his six children, David of Alger, Douglas of Richland, Daniel of West Richland, Dennis of Spokane, Mary Cocci of Gig Harbor and Regina Campbell of Ferndale; a brother, Roland, and a sister, Lula, both of Oshkosh, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Strasser enjoyed spending time with his family in the outdoors - hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He also liked to read and to learn new facts.
In his later years, he liked working with wood, building a 17-foot boat, lawn furniture, birdhouses and board games for his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Church, 1126 Long Ave. in Richland.
Patricia Burrow
Patricia Ann Burrow, 43, of Bremerton died May 14, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Waynesville, Mo., to Robert and Betty (Schultz) Morgan. She graduated from high school in 1976, later earned a two-year degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse.
She married
Lonnie E. Burrow in April 2001 in Texas.
Mrs. Burrow was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Betty Morgan of Texas; a son, Robert Johnson Morgan of Texas; and two sisters, Debra Morgan and Linda Mann, both of Texas. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Services are pending.
Duane Jensen
Duane Motor Jensen, 75, of Bremerton died May 10, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born April 28, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, to James and Nellie (Motor) Jensen. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1946.
Mr. Jensen served in the Army from 1952 to 1965, achieving the rank of sergeant first class. He later worked in emergency medical services and as a Realtor.
He married
Sharon Neuendorf on Aug. 4, 1975, in Mount Vernon.
Mr. Jensen was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Deception Pass Squadron. He enjoyed square dancing with the Hi-Steppers.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, John Neuendorf of Bremerton, Daniel Neuendorf of Mount Vernon, Eduard Neuendorf and his wife, Teresa, of Clearfield, Utah, and Robert Neuendorf and his wife, Teri, of Colfax, Iowa; a daughter, Victoria LaFountain and her husband, Ron, of Florida; a brother, Norman Jensen of Virginia; six sisters, Ruth Chapman of Yakima, Donna Thomas of Cook, Wash., Josephine Petersen of Freemont, Calif., Clara Webb of Virginia, Evelyn Wolfe of Edgewood, Md., and Marian Burns of Tucson, Ariz.;13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys and Phyllis, and by three brothers, Melvin, Lloyd and Vern.
Services are private. Cremation is under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
