Eileen Millikan Chandler
Former Bremerton resident Eileen Millikan Chandler, 76, of Renton died April 2, 2002, in Renton.
She was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Seattle to Wyatt and Gladys (Barnhart) Millikan. She grew up in the Manette area and graduated from Bremerton High School.
She married Jim Chandler. Mrs. Chandler enjoyed spending time with her many friends and making pottery.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mike Chandler of Seattle; a daughter, Kathy Swanberg of Seattle; two brothers, Forrest Millikan of Enid, Okla., and David Millikan of Colorado; two sisters, Carol Deglow of Salem, Ore., and Joan Owen of Dallas, Ore.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Millikan; and a sister, Dot Egan.
A memorial service was held at Covington Chapel in Kent. Mrs. Chandler's cousins, Dale and Glen Fishel, officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to Medic One Headquarters, 7064 S 220th St., Building Nine, Kent, WA 98032.

Milli Olson
Former Bremerton resident Mildred Elaine "Milli" Olson, 83, of Spanaway died April 30, 2002, in Spanaway.
She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Weatherford, Texas.
She married Nelse O. Olson on Aug. 1, 1938. They were married 61 years before Mr. Olson died in 1999.
Mrs. Olson and her husband enjoyed travel. She had been interested in art throughout her life and also enjoyed maintaining correspondence with her many friends.
Mrs. Olson was a longtime resident of Bremerton. She moved to Spanaway in 1995.
She is survived by two sons, Eric O. Olson of Everett and Nils R. "Nick" Olson of Spanaway.
At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, WA 98403, (253) 272-1414.

Helen Rooms
Helen Rooms, 91, of Port Orchard died April 30, 2002, in Gig Harbor.
She was born March 22, 1911, in Seattle to Joseph and Mary Ann (Butt) Triviere. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1927 and from business college in Seattle in 1929.
She married Albert G. Rooms. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Rooms worked for 25 years as the secretary for the Kitsap County engineer, retiring in 1976.
She enjoyed travel and golf. She was a member of the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Payseno of Port Orchard and JoAnn Bundgard of San Jose, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Greg Johnson
Gregory Lee "Greg" Johnson, 45, of Bremerton and Silverdale died after a long battle with leukemia April 26, 2002, at his parents' home in Silverdale.
He was born Jan. 20, 1957, in Bremerton to Larry R. and Maxine (Windslow) Johnson.
He was educated in the Central Kitsap School District, graduating from Central Kitsap High School in 1975.
He worked most of his life as a long-distance truck driver, working for companies throughout the United States. He owned and operated Sundance Trucking.
Mr. Johnson also spent several years working for Kitsap County Public Works and most recently for Contractor's Roofing Service of Gig Harbor.
He enjoyed flower gardening and computers.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Jari Arin of Port Orchard; a nephew, Andru Martin of Gig Harbor; a niece, Sheena Martin of Port Orchard; his grandfather, Harry Williams of Port Hadlock; his grandmother, Dorothy Johnson of Edmonds; three aunts, Nancy Templeton and JoRene Nelson, both of Bremerton, and Lois McIntire of Edmonds; two uncles, Ronald Williams of Port Orchard and Jon Williams of Pelican, Alaska; and many cousins.
Private family burial services were held at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Foundation, P.O. Box 19024, LY-120, Seattle, WA 98109-1024, or to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Milton Ryers
Milton Fredrick Ryers, 84, of Retsil died of heart failure April 29, 2002, at the Washington Veterans Home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Bay City, Mich., to Fredrick and Florence (Tuson) Ryers.
He and his wife, Leola, were married for 40 years. She died in 1982.
Mr. Ryers served in the Army for 23 years, achieving the rank of sergeant first class. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with three loops.
Following retirement from his military career, Mr. Ryers owned and operated a service station in Tacoma for many years. He later lived in Shelton before moving to Retsil.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, having served the DAV as commander of the Tacoma chapter and as Washington state commander.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Ryers of Port Orchard and Richard Ryers; two daughters, Charlotte Ryers of Bellingham and Sue Bowers of Phoenix; two sisters, Winifred Buzzard and Cleo Dinsmore, both of Michigan; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Louise Ryers, who died in childhood; and by a brother, Clarence Ryers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, also at Mountain View with a graveside service following in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.

Marcella Coates Finlay
Former Bremerton resident Marcella Coates Finlay, 98, of Lee's Summit, Mo., died April 22, 2002, at Village Care Center in Lee's Summit.
She was born April 1, 1904, in Winnemucca, Nev., to Leon L. and Abigail (Duncan) Coates. She graduated from Sparks High School in Nevada and from the University of Nevada in 1925.
She married Ralph P. Finlay on Nov. 5, 1925. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Finlay taught school in Nevada and Utah, later becoming director of homemaking education and school food services for the Jordan School District in Sandy, Utah. She retired in 1969.
She also had worked in banking, as a legal secretary, an office manager and operated a home decorating business. She had served as president of the Utah Federation of Business and Professional Women.
Mrs. Finlay moved to Bremerton in 1979 to be near her son, John C. Finlay. He died in 1987.
In Bremerton, she was active in the Daughters of the Nile, the Harrison Hospital Auxiliary volunteer services, the Ladies Club of the Sons of Norway and the Hatasu Club. She was listed in the Who's Who of American Women and the Who's Who of Women of the West.
Mrs. Finlay enjoyed Rosemaling, china painting and needlework.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeri and Jerry Carter of Lee's Summit; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Finlay of Bremerton; three grandchildren, Kathy Gee of Pittsburgh, Karen Winn of San Carlos, Calif., and Bill Carter and his wife, Bobbi, of Carrollton, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dru Gee and Bailie Carter; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
No services were held.

Robert Avery
Robert S. Avery, 75, of Port Orchard died
April 23, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 1, 1927, in Jackson, Mich., to Ulyssis and Viola Avery. He graduated from South Kitsap High School.
Mr. Avery served in the Army from 1944 to 1950, achieving the rank of sergeant and receiving several medals. He later worked with The Boeing Co. for nine years.
He married Bertha Curtis on April 21, 1949, in Lansing, Mich.
Mr. Avery volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 1536 in Port Orchard for 20 years. He also was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife; and three grandchildren, Mitch, Randy and Greg, all of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Avery.
No services will be held.

Aden Alter Jr.
Aden E. Alter Jr., 73, of Bremerton died April 28, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 11, 1929, in Little Rock, Ark., to Aden E. and Willy Mae (Simmons) Alter Sr.
Mr. Alter served in the Army from 1946 to 1950, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He later was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop 26 for 32 years, retiring in 1987.
He married Doris White on April 6, 1991, in Bremerton.
Mr. Alter enjoyed woodworking and small engine repair.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Edward "Bert, " Steve, Eddie and Justin Alter, all of Bremerton, and Dennis Alter of Ontario, Ore.; a daughter, Teresa (Alter) Piper of Tacoma; a stepdaughter, Linda Piper of Bremerton; four stepsons, Robert Piper of Tacoma, Ronald Piper of Bremerton, Tommy Piper of Hardin, Ky., and Michael Piper of Suquamish; a brother, Travis Alter of Fort Gibson, Okla.; a sister, Marie Noe
of Little Rock; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie Mae (Nalley) Alter, and by a stepson, Harold Piper.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Miller-Woodlawn. Interment icon will be at Poulsbo City cemetery.

Gwendolyn Morehead
Gwendolyn S. Morehead, 93, of Poulsbo died of heart failure April 24, 2002, in Seattle.
She was born March 18, 1909, in Seattle to Leonard and Mary Smith. She graduated from West Seattle High School.
She married Henry Morehead Dec. 7, 1974, on Mercer Island.
Mrs. Morehead was a homemaker who enjoyed dancing, travel and competitive swimming. She was a member of St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include her husband; a son, John W. Hunt and his wife, Heather, of Kirkland; and two grandchildren, Sarah Hunt of Redmond and Edward Hunt of Renton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 11 at St. Olaf's. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Olaf's or Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.

Lloyd Westmiller
Lloyd Burnett Westmiller, 75, of Allyn died April 24, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 18, 1926, in Underwood, N.D., to Roy C. and Bertha E. (Benn) Westmiller. He graduated from high school in Bismarck, N.D.
Mr. Westmiller served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 as a private first class. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Bronze Battle Star.
He married Marian L. Russell on June 20, 1952.
Mr. Westmiller went on to work as a land surveyor with Roats Engineers in Poulsbo. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway and a charter member of the Lions Club in Poulsbo. He was Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Westmiller of Oxnard, Calif.; two daughters, Deborah LaPrath-Vern of Bremerton and Carol Fisher and her husband, Steve, of Port Orchard; three brothers, Mike Westmiller and his wife, Jane, of Yakima, Arlo Westmiller and his wife, Verdal, of Elgin, Ill., and Roy Westmiller and his wife, Irene, of Cando, N.D.; two sisters, Doris Swansen of Seattle and Karolee Smeltzer and her husband, Roland, of Fargo, N.D.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Westmiller.
A memorial service will be at noon Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
