Mc Douglas Benson
Mc Douglas Benson, 79,
of Allyn died April 24, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 6, 1922, in Idaho to Henry and Lena (McFarland) Benson. He graduated from Potlatch High School.
Mr. Benson served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant. He later worked as a railroad engineer, retiring in 1981.
He married
Lee Burden on Sept. 10, 1980, in Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Thatcher W. Benson of Raymond; a daughter, Sandy Nelson and her husband, Lyle, of Belfair; a brother, Rex Benson and his wife, Minnie, of Onaway, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Corie Saad.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Eleanor Eyer
Eleanor Faye Eyer, 79, of Kingston died April 25, 2002, in Kingston.
She was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Michigan.
She married
Joseph M. Eyer. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Eyer was a homemaker. She had worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II.
She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. Eyer of Kingston; a daughter, Betty Donnelly and her husband, Larry, of Mexico; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Ruth Anderson
Ruth Arlene Anderson, 86, of Poulsbo died April 29, 2002, in Poulsbo.
She was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Leonard, N.D., to Delbert and Mae (Gilbert) Walters. She graduated from Leonard High School in 1934 and from Valley City State College in Valley City, N.D.
She married
Elwood M. Anderson on May 29, 1940.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing piano and sewing.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marvel Loria Sangder and her husband, Bjorn, of Bainbridge Island, and Jean Storelee and her husband, Dennis, of Port Orchard; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, 2483 Mitchell Road SE in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Port Blakely cemetery on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Hazel Coburn
Hazel Arlene Coburn, 90, of Port Orchard and formerly of Camas, died April 23, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 22, 1911, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Nels and Beulah (Wright) Jorgenson.
She married
Cecil J. Coburn Sr. on Aug. 18, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Butch Coburn of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Lois Becker of Hazel Dell and Marilyn Wollam of Port Orchard; three sisters, Sally Shakley of Seattle, Mildred Smith of Pine City, Minn., and Betty Rogers of Vancouver, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by seven brothers, Marvin, Harold, Elmer, Melvin, Kenneth, James and Donald; and by two sisters, Nellie and Esther.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave. in Vancouver, Wash.
Stanley Paulson
Stanley Edwin Paulson, 87, of Poulsbo died April 24, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Poulsbo to Gilbert and Alice (Jones) Paulson. He attended North Kitsap High School and continued to live in North Kitsap throughout his life.
He was a descendant of North Kitsap pioneer families. His uncle, Paul Paulson, served as mayor and city clerk of Poulsbo.
Mr. Paulson served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a gunner's mate third class. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal.
He married
Florence Halvorson on April 30, 1948, in Port Angeles.
Mr. Paulson was a logger and shellfish harvester for many years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Gardening was a favorite pastime.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Paulson of Poulsbo and Steve Paulson of Indianola; two daughters, Kathy Eliason and Karen Paulson, both of Poulsbo; two sisters, Alice Johnson of Poulsbo and Bernice Ferguson of Bremerton; five grandchildren, Mike and Gary Eliason and Jeremy, Wendy and Chris Paulson, all of Kitsap County; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Gabrielle Johnson, both of Kitsap County, and Ethan Brown of Jefferson County. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Mason, and by a brother, Alfred Paulson.
A private memorial service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Effie Ross
Effie H. Ross, 96, of Silverdale died April 25, 2002, at Crista Shores.
She was born Sept. 28, 1905, in Greenland, Nova Scotia, to Charles and Irene Scragg.
She married
Cornelius "Pete" Ross on Nov. 30, 1929, in Easton, Pa. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Ross had worked in health care as a nurse's aide in a sanitarium. She later owned and operated retail businesses in West Bremerton and Silverdale.
Her interests were travel and investing in stocks and real estate.
Survivors include two sons, C.A. "Pete" Ross Jr. and his wife, Dona, of Chico and Ronald R. Ross and his wife, Nadean, of Poulsbo; a daughter, Melissa R. Olson and her husband, Robert E., of Poulsbo; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis and Bill Scragg; and by a sister, Melissa Ross.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Silverdale Lions Club's local fund for sight and hearing, P.O. Box 721, Silverdale, WA 98383.
Jim Clancy
Andrew James "Jim" Clancy, 82, of Bremerton died on April 26, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in New York City to James and Sophie Clancy. He attended high school on Staten Island.
Mr. Clancy served in the Army as a paratrooper during World War II with the 82nd Airborne. He saw action in Tunisia and the European Theater.
After the war, he married
Marion Lee in 1946. Their sons, James Lee and Steven Mark, were born in 1948 and 1950 respectively. Mrs. Clancy died in 1956.
He married
Ruth Kroehler on Feb. 4, 1957, in Hardin, Mont. In 1963, their daughter, Christel Ruth, was born.
Mr. Clancy had been an insurance salesman with Prudential for nine years. He also was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1980 after 25 years.
He enjoyed golf as a member of the Gold Mountain Golf Course. Other interests were card games and getting together with friends.
He was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and had been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, both in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Jan Clancy of Marysville, and Steve and Gladys Clancy of Bellingham; a daughter and son-in-law, Christel and Darrin Pitre of Virginia Beach, Va.; and nine grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 11th and Veneta.

Lettie Campbell
Former Bremerton resident Lettie Modena Campbell, 93, of Edmonds died April 26, 2002, at Aldercrest Health and Rehabilitation Center in Edmonds.
She was born May 23, 1908, in Rigby, Idaho, to John and Minerva (Osborne) Heyrend.
She married
Francis "Lou" Campbell on Aug. 15, 1925. He died in 1980.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell spent the early years of their marriage on a farm in Idaho before moving to Idaho Falls in 1938 and, in 1943, to Bremerton where Mr. Campbell drove a bus for the Charleston Bus Company.
Mrs. Campbell worked for a brief period at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She was also a homemaker, devoted to her family.
She was a member of the Kitsap Lake Grandmother's Club and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed camping, reading, gardening, sewing and crochet.
Survivors include a son, Jay and his wife, Linda, of Port Hadlock; two daughters, Shirley Ross of Lynnwood and Coleen Merselis and her husband, Bill, of Lakewood, Calif.; a sister, Verla Ferguson of Idaho Falls; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Frankie Thompson
Frances Betty "Frankie" Thompson, 76, died April 27, 2002, of cancer at her Bremerton home.
She was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Lead, S.D., to Fred and Betty (Waldron) Stilwill. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1944 and from Olympic College in 1961.
She married
Joe V. Thompson on May 28, 1942, in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Thompson had worked for 11 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and as a medical clerk at Naval Hospital Bremerton. She retired in 1991.
She was a member of the Eagles, the Eastern Star and the Methodist faith. Bowling was a favorite pastime.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Fred and his wife, Nancy, of Bremerton; three daughters, Sharon L. Barley and her husband, Doug, and Carol J. Dodd and her husband, Ken, all of Bremerton, and Betty Jo Merryfield and her husband, Ronald, of Weyau Wega, Wis.; one sister, Delma Pfeiffer of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Gibb and Dotty Wilson.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 1150 Marine Drive in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Clista Jacobs Milner
Clista Sybil Jacobs Milner, 94, of Port Orchard died April 26, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1907, in Billings, Mont., to Isum and Minnie (Cummings) Jacobs.
She married
Earl L. Milner on June 28, 1924, in Livingston, Mont. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Milner was a homemaker who enjoyed genealogy, baking and crochet. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sinclair View Ward in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, James of Port Orchard; three daughters, Clista "Rosie" Miller of Port Orchard, Esther Stratton of Nigeria and Betty Norskog of Helena, Mont.; a brother, Orvis Jacobs of Auburn; a sister, Kathryn Henderson of Pacific City; 19 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mollie Earlene Milner, three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Mullinex Road in Port Orchard. Interment
will be in Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Louise Schostak
Former Port Ludlow resident Margaret "Louise" Schostak, 76, of Forks died April 25, 2002.
She was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Riverton, Wyo., to William and Clara Loomis. She married
Mitchell Schostak on Oct. 1, 1943.
Following Mr. Schostak's service in the Army, the couple lived in Aberdeen until 1960 when they moved to the Hoh River near Forks. In 1984, they became residents of Port Ludlow, where Mrs. Schostak lived for many years. She spent her last three years in Forks, with a short time in Sequim.
She enjoyed gardening and raised much of her family's food. Other interests were shopping, traveling and bingo.
Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons, Mitchell of Curlew, Bill, John and Ken, all of Forks, and Russell of Lake Forest, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Schostak Vogt of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; four sisters, Gladys Kirke of Fairborn, Ohio, Rose Vessey of Aumsville, Ore., Clara Fields of Crescent City, Calif., and Ella May Lilly of Everett; two brothers, Melvin Loomis of Everett and Elmer Loomis of Hoquiam; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.
