Edna Oxley
Edna Christine Oxley, 85, a resident of Poulsbo for the past 24 years, died June 15, 2002, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born April 18, 1917, in Cumberland, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to Angus J.D.B. and Clara (Potter) McMillan. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1935.
She married
James Oxley on July 1, 1939, in Tacoma. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Oxley was a stay-at-home mother. She and her husband owned and operated a fishing resort.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. She made clothing for her children for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Hestdalen and her husband, Cliff, of Poulsbo, Kristin Grace and her husband, Bill, of Lynden, and Cynda Webb and her husband, Frank, of Skamocawa, Wash.; a brother, Hugh McMillan of Lakebay; three grandchildren, Brannon Rowe, Megan Doumit and Benson Webb; and a great-grandson, Jay Doumit.
Inurnment will be in Tacoma cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Olive Means
Olive May Means, 82, of Olalla died June 19, 2002, at Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma.
She was born June 30, 1919, in Preston, Minn., to Raymond and Anna (Baker) Barnes. She graduated from Preston High School in 1936.
She married
William Edward Means on Dec. 28, 1938, in Chatfield, Minn. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Means was a homemaker and mother. She loved gardening and knitting.
Survivors include her stepmother, Alma Pickett of Preston; a son, Gary Edward Means of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Carol Oropeza and Lynn Sekerak and her husband, Mike, all of Port Orchard, and Barbara Steenvoorde and her husband, Paul, of Gig Harbor; a brother, Warren Barnes of St. Paul, Minn.; three sisters, Marion Severson and Shirley Krogstad, both of Preston, and Marge Tinan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Barnes.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Evelyn Campeau
Evelyn Shirley Campeau, 78, a resident of Bremerton for 62 years, died June 18, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1924, in Aberdeen to Claude B. and Violet I. (Ronkainen) Robinson. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1942.
She married
Eugene M. Campeau on Oct. 16, 1947, in Bremerton. He died in 2000.
Mrs. Campeau was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing costumes and wedding dresses for family members, cooking, crochet and bowling.
Survivors include three daughters, Theresa Virden and her husband, Gordy, of Ephrata, Nancy Wallace and her companion, Lloyd Brown, of Bremerton and Kathy Fine of LaHabra, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Robinson and his wife, Charlene, of Olympia; four sisters, Carol McCorkle and her husband, Glen, of Bremerton, Velda Miller and Linda Smith, both of Tacoma, and Jennie Wilson and her husband, Tom, of Shoreline; six grandchildren, Barbara Johnson, Rodney Virden and his wife, Ahn, Priscilla Wallace, Chandra Trask and Selena and Jolyn Fine; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, Brysen and Nichole.
Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Katelyn Michelle Boulanger
Katelyn Michelle Boulanger, daughter of Sean Boulanger and Ebben Cook of Bremerton, was stillborn June 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital-Silverdale.
She is survived by her parents.
No services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Patrick Avery
Patrick P. Avery, 49, of Suquamish died June 19, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1952, in Sunnyton, Conn., to Edmund E. and
Mary H. (Piorkowski) Avery. He graduated from Bristol High School in Bristol, Conn., in 1972.
Mr. Avery was a carpenter and home builder.
He was affiliated with the Roman Catholic faith. He loved the water and sailing with friends.
Survivors include his father, now of Kissimmee, Fla., and a brother, Michael Avery of Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1999.
A gathering of family and friends will be at 3 p.m. today at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove, 22272 Foss Road in Poulsbo. Visitation will be held an hour before the service.
Angelo Rodriguez
Angelo C. Rodriguez, 82, of Port Orchard died June 17, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Trasmano, Spain, to Jose and Carmen
(Rodriguez) Cabaleiro.
Mr. Rodriguez was employed in research with Chevron for 20 years in Richmond, Calif., retiring in 1984. Previously, he had worked with the Merchant Marine.
He was an avid fisherman and blackjack player.
His wife, Ella Mae, died in 1991. Survivors include three sons, Dale Frye of Sacramento, Calif., Tom Bennett of El Cerrito, Calif., and Mingo Bennett of Florida; three daughters, Tina Nau and her husband, Marc, of Port Orchard, Carolyn Van Diver of Auburn, Calif., and Karen Bennett of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday also at Rill Chapel.
Elroy Pyper
Former Bremerton resident Elroy Leon Pyper, 81, of Mossyrock died June 17, 2002, at the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centralia.
He was born July 22, 1920, in Avon, S.D., to Lester and Sylvia (Hawkey) Pyper. He graduated from high school in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1939.
He married
Alice Dorothy Kehr on Aug. 22, 1941, in Sioux Falls.
Mr. Pyper served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 in Europe during World War II. He later served with the National Guard, stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.
He lived in Bremerton from 1960 to 1989, working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 23 years. He retired as a planner-estimator in 1983.
Mr. and Mrs. Pyper moved from Bremerton to Mossyrock in 1992. Mr. Pyper had enjoyed selling tickets at a theater there for the past two years.
His favorite pastimes were golf, clam digging, fishing and travel, especially to the Oregon coast. The Pypers were snowbirds, wintering in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and in Bullhead City, Ariz., for many years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Pyper of Vancouver, Wash., William Pyper of Tumwater and Thomas Pyper of Bradley, La.; two daughters, Dianna McLeod of Silver Creek and Debbie Zimmerman of Tumwater; a sister, Phyllis McMahon of Vancouver, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, William and Robert.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. June 28 at Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary in Centralia. Larry Keene and Michael Chase will co-officiate.

Temple Drake
Temple S. Drake, 57, of Port Orchard died of heart failure June 15, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born July 30, 1944, in Los Angeles. He graduated from Twenty-nine Palms High School in Twenty-nine Palms, Calif., in 1960.
Mr. Drake served in the Navy as a SEAL from 1961 to 1964. He was a Vietnam veteran and a recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He married
Loleta Chandler on Sept. 27, 1983.
Mr. Drake had been a master tattoo artist for 30 years and founded Tattoo Technique. He had worked in downtown Bremerton for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dane A. Drake of Port Orchard and Nicholas M. Chandler of Savannah, Ga.; and a daughter, Serena S. Drake of Seattle.
A memorial service for family and invited guests only will be at 2 p.m. July 1 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Reo Bowerman Jr.
Reo James Bowerman Jr., 77, of Poulsbo died June 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Yankee Springs Township, Mich., to Reo James and Cecilia Esther (Gulliom) Bowerman Sr. He attended South High School in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Mr. Bowerman served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and later worked in automobile sales. He was retired.
He enjoyed reading and sports.
Survivors include a son, James N. Bowerman and his wife, Laurine, of Silverdale; a daughter, Georgia Kay Bowerman of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maude Bernice Melle.
At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Diane Hawver
Diane Hawver, 54, of Suquamish died of cancer June 17, 2002, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Jan. 5, 1948, in Fresno, Calif., to Genevieve and Jack Hunter Hawver.
She worked as a software engineer. She was a member of the Christian Life Center in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her mother; a son, Joshua Hunter Hawver of Poulsbo; a brother, Jack Hawver Jr. of Virginia; and a sister, Suzanne Webber of California. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain View cemetery in Poulsbo.
Louis Burkenbine
Louis Burkenbine, 75, of Seabeck died June 9, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Grangeville, Idaho, to William and Lora (Parks) Burkenbine.
He married
Maxine Taylor on Nov. 10, 1965.
Mr. Burkenbine enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Terry Burkenbine of Bangkok, Thailand, Jess Graham and Louis Burkenbine, both of Seabeck, and Kevin Graham of Everett; two daughters, Becky Burkenbine of Seabeck and Judy Roberts of Lapwai, Idaho; a sister, Janell Cash of Grangeville; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven.
A graveside service was held at Prairie View cemetery in Grangeville.
