Nita Jean
(Bowcutt) Sorlie
Former Bremerton resident Nita Jean (Bowcutt) Sorlie, 59, of Electric City, Wash., died May 22, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1943, in Prairie City, Ore., to Douglas and Wilma June Heaton. Her parents divorced when she was a small child and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Frank Moe.
She spent her childhood in Blaine, later moving with her family to Portland, Ore., and graduating from Clackamas High School.
She married
Jerry Roberts. They lived in Portland and were later divorced in the early 1970s.
In the mid-1970s, she married
John Bowcutt. They lived in the Bremerton-Port Orchard area for many years and were later divorced.
On Aug. 2, 1992, she married
Marty Sorlie and lived in the Key Center area, later moving to Electric City.
Mrs. Sorlie was a member of the Okanogan Eagles and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed craft projects involving woodwork, ceramics, sewing and yarn.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Tammy Roberts-Lockett and Tina Roberts-Weiss, both of Portland; a sister,
Karen Miller of Oregon City, Ore.; a brother, Frank Moe of Sandy, Ore.; and
four grandchildren, James and Jacob Weiss and Chelsea Griggs and Jarrett Lockett, all of Portland. She was preceded in death by her mother in 2001; her stepfather, Frank Moe, in 1979; and her father.
A memorial service was held May 31 at Mount Scott Church of the Nazarene in Portland. Arrangements were under the direction of Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee.
Kathy Landram
Belfair resident Kathleen "Kathy" Landram, 80, a former co-owner of Belfair Builder's Supply, died June 12, 2002, of heart disease at her home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Tacoma to Glen and Eilleen (Madison) Wallace. She graduated from Aquinas Academy in Tacoma in 1937, attended Puget Sound College, graduated from Washington State University in 1942 and received a master's degree in anesthesiology from Seattle University.
She married
William B. Landram on Nov. 9, 1946. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Landram had worked as a registered nurse in Seattle. She and her husband established Belfair Builder's Supply in 1948, operating the business until 1972 when the business was sold to Parker Lumber.
She enjoyed her children's sporting events. Travel was another favorite pastime.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair.
Survivors include five sons, Drew Landram of Chewelah, Bruce Landram of Minneapolis, Glenn Landram of Belfair, George Landram of Des Moines, Wash., and Rudy Landram of Kent; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Landram, in 1993.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, also at Rill Chapel. A private family graveside service will be Friday at noon at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 22 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1171 NE Sand Hill Road in Belfair.

Donald Culbertson
Donald S. Culbertson, 68, a resident of Port Orchard and Seattle, died June 6, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born April 11, 1934, in Cincinnati to Dwayne and Madeline (Gillespie) Culbertson. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1951 and from the University of Washington in 1959.
Mr. Culbertson served in the Army from 1953 to 1956 as a specialist third class in a technical field. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He enjoyed boating, computers, woodwork, tennis and stamp collecting.
Survivors include two sons, James Culbertson of
Vashon Island and Jeff Culbertson of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Julie McGill of Los Gatos, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Allen of Seattle; an aunt, Marty Bailey of Seattle; and five grandchildren, Chris and Michael Culbertson, Brandon Kinkade, Hannah Baskin and Rachel McGill.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
John Ager
Former Bremerton resident John Creighton Ager, 69, of Vancouver, Wash., died June 11, 2002, in Vancouver.
He was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Bremerton to Clarence Creighton and Yoland (Burton) Ager.
He married
Shirley Ruth Wolfdale. She died in 1995.
Mr. Ager served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955, achieving the rank of musician third class.
He held a master's degree in music and taught music in the Vancouver school system for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He also was a part-time butcher.
Mr. Ager was a member of the National Rifle Association and a past member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed repairing musical instruments, boating, crossword puzzles, making trophies and metal sculptures, painting murals and military history.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Ager of Battle Ground; a daughter, Debby Cruden of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Phil Ager of Winthrop; and five grandchildren.

Joe Porter
Joseph W. "Joe" Porter, 66, of Olalla died June 8, 2002, in Port Orchard from complications of a stroke and diabetes.
He was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Oak Harbor to Delight Jevne. He attended Peninsula High School.
He married
Clara Myers on Dec. 31, 1956, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Porter worked as a deck foreman for many years in Alaska with Wakefield Fisheries and Pan Alaska.
He enjoyed reading and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael J. Porter of Sunnyslope and Scott W. Porter of Olalla; a daughter, Sheryl Rowan of Olalla; two brothers, Virgil E. Porter and Richard L. Jevne, both of Port Townsend; two sisters, Charlotte Johnson and Christine Lewis, both of Port Townsend; seven grandchildren, Brianna, Keith, Jonathan, Ashley, Michael, Misty and Heather; and four great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Nathanial, Zayne and Marissa. He was preceded in death by a son, David P. Porter.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burley Bible Church, 14687 Olympic Drive SE in Burley.
Peggy Wright
Arlene A. "Peggy" Wright, 88, of Bremerton died June 10, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Joseph, Ore., to Elmer S. and Mamie (Turner) Hayden. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1932.
She married
Lester L. Wright, a former sergeant with the Bremerton Police Department, on June 11, 1938. They had been married
nearly 50 years at the time of his death in 1988.
Mrs. Wright had worked at Bremer's Department Store and at both the Tower and Roxy theatres in Bremerton.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki L. Stinson and her husband George of Prescott, Ariz.; a son, Jim Wright of Bremerton; two grandchildren, Noelle Johnson and Carlos Contreras; and a great-granddaughter, Erin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Sanders.
No public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Leon Morgan
Former Bremerton resident Leon Anthoney Morgan, 35, of San Diego died May 19, 2002.
He was born Oct. 31, 1966, in Bremerton to Theophilus and Ruby (Pharr) Morgan. He graduated from Montgomery High School in San Diego in 1984.
He married
Susan Means on April 15, 1983, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Morgan served in the Army from 1983 to 1992. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and numerous certificates.
He enjoyed fishing and weight training. He had worked out often at the YMCA in Bremerton, losing 200 pounds in five years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leon Anthoney Morgan Jr., Michael Morgan and Sebastian Morgan, all of San Diego; a daughter, Anna Lisa Morgan of Bremerton; a brother, Bill Morgan and his wife, Linda, of Bremerton; a sister, Karla Lockett and her husband, Tony, of Puyallup; and one grandson, Alex Protherow-Morgan of Bremerton.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cypress View Chapel, 3953 Imperial Ave. in San Diego.
Arrangements are under the direction of Telophase Cremation Society.
Ruth Coleman
Ruth Tobea Coleman, 82, of Bremerton died June 5, 2002, at Reeder Residence Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Odessa to Edward and Emelia (Bauer) Seefried. She graduated from high school in Dryden in 1938.
She married
John Coleman on July 3, 1938, in Dryden. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Coleman owned and operated the Maple Leaf Tavern in Manette for 35 years. She later worked as a clerk with the city of Bremerton for 10 years.
She was a member of T.O.P.S. 459 in Bremerton and attended the Manette Community Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Mike Coleman of Bremerton; a brother, Albert Seefried of Spokane; three grandchildren, Jessie Coleman of Arizona and Natalie and Seth Coleman, both of Bremerton; longtime friend, Jay Schmidt; close friend, Susie Johnson; and 17 nieces and nephews, including Marilyn Gartin of Bremerton; and great nieces and nephews, John, Jack and Jim Sipila, Peggy Deichert and Pam LaVinge, all of Bremerton. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and son, Ruth Ann and Donald John; by sisters, Olga Larson, Elsie Deirfield and Polly Fernwood; and by brothers, Bill, Harold and Don Seefried.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Syril Wolf
Syril Wolf, 82, of Port Orchard died June 11, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Ramona, N.D., to John and Margaret (Wrench) Wolf. He attended school in North Dakota.
He married
Helen Inez Wiley on Nov. 9, 1939.
Mr. Wolf served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was wounded during his military service.
He worked in construction and as a heavy equipment operator for more than 35 years. He was the founder and owner of Wolf Construction in Port Orchard, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Wolf enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and RVing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard S. Wolf and his wife, Inez, and LaVern Wolf and his wife, Sandy, all of Port Orchard, and Larry Wolf and his wife, Shirley of Bremerton; a daughter, Linda L. Wyatt and her husband, Rick, of Port Orchard; a brother, Bud Wolf of Bordulac, N.D.; five sisters, Virginea, Theresa and Pat, all of North Dakota, Eileen of Ellensburg and Mickey of Tacoma; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.
Services are private.

Eva Harbst
Eva Naomi Harbst, 94, of Poulsbo died June 10, 2002, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bremerton.
She was born May 16, 1908, in Linden, Iowa, to Thomas and May (Grubbs) Eyres.
She married
Ed Eben in July of 1927. He preceded her in death in 1946.
She married
Emil Harbst in 1963. He died in 1991.
She had lived in Tacoma from 1920 to 1963 when she moved to Olympia. She had been a resident of Kitsap County for the past six years.
Mrs. Harbst had worked in a photography shop in Tacoma for several years. She enjoyed crafts and sewing.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Odegard of Poulsbo and Ann Turner of Silverdale; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. today in the Poulsbo City cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
