June Pilling
June Louise Pilling, 79, of Port Orchard died Dec. 6, 1998, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Spokane to Simeon and Wevee (Dixson) Melvin.
She was raised in Seattle and Bremerton, graduating from Lincoln High School and later attending business college in Seattle.
On June 14, 1939, she married
Frank G. Pilling in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Pilling was a homemaker. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and taught CCD at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Kerry of Port Orchard; a daughter, Wevee Lawing of Port Orchard; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Rill Chapel, with a reception following in the Hospitality Room. Interment
will be at Fraola cemetery.

Paul Berg
Paul Henry Berg, 74, of Poulsbo died Dec. 1, 1998, at Martha & Mary Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Oakland, Calif., to Edward and Olga (Backland) Berg. He was raised in Oakland, graduating from University High School.
On Feb. 27, 1948, he married
Lorraine Gill in Berkeley, Calif.
Mr. Berg served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 as a test pilot for the B-24 aircraft and other heavy bombers. He worked as a carpenter and contractor in California until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Roy of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; a daughter, Cathy Ann of Poulsbo; and five grandchildren, Lynn and Kristian Strub, both of Poulsbo, and Monica, Andrea and Erika Berg, all of Pleasant Hill, Calif.
A memorial service was held on Dec. 7.

John Pope
John B. Pope, 62, of Port Orchard died Dec. 6, 1998, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1936, in Washington, D.C., to James and Sara (Gilchrist) Pope. He was raised in Statesville, N.C.
In 1963, he married
Eiko Horichi in Tokyo, Japan.
Mr. Pope served in the Navy for 24 years, retiring in 1975. He later worked at Lockheed and Naval Submarine Base Bangor, retiring in 1987.
Survivors include his wife; and two brothers, Harry of Taylorsville, N.C., and George of Catawba, N.C.

Ruth Fredericksen
Longtime Poulsbo resident Ruth Elizabeth McCarty Fredericksen, 94, died Dec. 3, 1998, in Poulsbo.
She was born Nov. 15, 1904, in Sumner to Franklin and Maude (Berlin) McCarty. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1925.
On Oct. 4, 1927, she married
Conrad "Coon" Fredericksen in Seattle.
Mrs. Fredericksen taught school in Poulsbo for one year and then worked in the family grocery store for many years.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Allan of Poulsbo; five grandchildren, Cindy Rice of Poulsbo, Kevin, Matt and Andrew Fredericksen, all of Poulsbo, and Charles Fredericksen of Kingston; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carole Catriz; two brothers, Maury and Ken McCarty; and a sister, Marguerite Watts.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at First Lutheran Church, 18920 Fourth Ave. NE, Poulsbo. Inurnment will be at First Lutheran Church.

Donald Wood
Former Tracyton resident Donald G. Wood Sr., 89, died Nov. 21, 1998, in Hawaii.
He was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Morton.
He retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Bremerton Boat Club.
Survivors include a son, Don Jr. of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Patty Hendricks of Keaau, Hawaii; and five grandchildren, Don, Gillian, Michael, Keith and Marlene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, in 1986.
Services were conducted in Hawaii.
Rowena Murphy
Rowena Ellen Murphy, 82, of Bremerton died Dec. 5, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1916, in Francis to Phares and Edna (Patton) Oliver. She was raised in South Bend, graduating from South Bend High School in 1933.
On July 9, 1948, she married
Floyd Lee Murphy in Walla Walla. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Murphy ran the Floyd L. Murphy Business Service with her husband from 1955 to 1978. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Bremerton Bottling until 1987.
She was an active member and past president of Soroptimist International and a member of Kitsap Gem and Mineral Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Rowan of Vashon Island and Shirlee Williams of Bremerton; and nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Peter, Bethany, Jonathan, Monica, Juliana and Ethan Rowan and Melanie and Rebecca Williams.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will take place after the funeral at Forest Lawn cemetery, and a reception will follow at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lola Weaver
Former longtime Bremerton resident Lola R. Weaver, 85, died Dec. 5, 1998, of cancer at Fir Lane Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan 28, 1913, in Bow Island, Canada, to Robert and Lottie (Amblie) Howard.
On July 29, 1952, she married
LeRoy Weaver in Yakima.
She worked as a bookkeeper and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband; three brothers, Paul of Tacoma, Dale of Richland and Morris of Pasco; and a sister, Rose Humes of Williams, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Shelton.

Clifford Prouse
Clifford Prouse, 34, of Bremerton died Dec. 5, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital of heart failure.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at Silverdale Lutheran Church.
Lucile Wunder
Lucile M. Wunder, 85, of Montesano died Dec. 4, 1998, at Capital Medical Center in Olympia of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Big Horn, Wyo., to Charles and Etta (Surrena) Hillyer. She was raised in Wyoming. She moved to Bremerton in 1941 and to Port Orchard in 1948.
On April 17, 1940, she married
Nick J. Wunder in Billings, Mont. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Wunder was a homemaker. She was a member of Gorst Baptist Community Church, Ground Observer Corps-U.S.A.F. Air Defense Team, Kitsap County Election Board and Mary Martha Circle in Sunnyslope.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Lee of Yulee, Fla., Patricia Willis of Montesano and Donna Soper of Belfair; a brother, Sye Hillyer of Alliance, Neb.; two sisters, Agnes Van Noy of Torrance, Calif., and Alberta Lund of Sheridan, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Steve and Paul Lee, Linda Haim, Tom and Scott Trout and James Soper; and four great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Dec 9 at Sunset Lane cemetery. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Gorst Baptist Community Church.

Alyce Wernet
Alyce Lyn Wernet, 53, of Port Orchard died Dec. 6, 1998, of cancer at her daughter's home in Port Orchard.
She was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Seattle to George and Mildred (Elwell) Hartley. She was raised in Bremerton, attending East Bremerton High School.
In November 1976, she married
Gary Wernet in Bremerton.
Mrs. Wernet was a homemaker. She was also the coordinator for South Kitsap Haunted House for 10 years, a member of the South Kitsap Presbyterian Church and a volunteer with Project Family.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael Stengle of Bremerton; two daughters, Tracy Williamson of Poulsbo and Jody Traxler of Port Orchard; two stepsons, Michael Wernet of Port Orchard and Todd Wernet of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Mardell Blevens of Port Orchard; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at noon Dec. 9 at South Kitsap Presbyterian Church.
