Thomas Allen
William "Thomas" Allen, 60, of Bremerton died July 25, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1941, in Grenada County, Miss., to Thomas and Ruby (Dunn) Allen. He graduated from Chamberlain-Hunt Academy in Port Gibson, Miss., and attended Hinds Community College in Jackson, Miss.
He married
Patricia Alma Dahl on April 5, 1964, in Bremerton.
He served in the Vietnam War in the Navy from January 1962 to May 1966. He was a plank owner on the USS Columbus.
He was a journeyman electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Shop 06, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and coached youth sports for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Patricia Desrosiers and her husband, Ronald, of Bremerton, Teresa Allen of Seattle, Tamara Allen of Vancouver, B.C., and Brenda Rule and her husband, Toby, of Pullman; and two grandchildren, Johnathon and Patricia Desrosiers.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Silverdale Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Pediatric Asthma Foundation.
Mary Cain
Mary Cain, 62, of Bremerton died of cancer July 25, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Medicine Lake, Mont., to Emmett and Lucy (Tax) Gromley. She graduated from West High School in Bremerton in 1957.
She married
Larry Cain on Oct. 24, 1954, in Bremerton. Mrs. Cain was a homemaker who enjoyed caring for others, particularly her children and grandchildren.
Her T.O.P.S. membership was a favorite pastime. Other interests were motorhome travel, yard work, birdhouses, nutcrackers and holiday porch displays.
Mrs. Cain had been a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton for most of her life.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Cain and his wife, Sandy, of Bremerton; two daughters, Marcia McGinley and her husband, Dan, of Port Ludlow, and Leslie Cain of Bremerton; two brothers, Ted Gromley of Seattle and Jim Gromley of Las Vegas; a sister, Betty Sorenson of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and seven grandchildren, Malia, Kyler, Makena, Colby, Kelsy, Ava and Nani.
A daylong potluck celebration of her life will be at the home of her daughter, Marcia, in Port Ludlow on Aug. 3. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lorean Crockett
Lorean C. Crockett, 96, \of Bainbridge Island died July 23, 2002, on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Nov. 6, 1905, in Odessa, Mo., to Marvin and Lucy (Alkire) Cheatham. She graduated from Central Missouri University in Warrensburg in 1927.
She married
Duncan Crockett in 1939 in Corder, Mo. He died in 2001.
Mrs. Crockett was an elementary teacher for 25 years, retiring in 1971. She also participated in her husband's career as a Presbyterian minister.
She enjoyed cooking and was featured in a Kansas City newspaper column on the subject. Tatting (fine lace work) was another special interest.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Veterane of Bainbridge Island and Marilee Kirkbride of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 in Corder. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, 11042 NE Sunrise Drive NE on Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Babe Kelly
Longtime Bremerton baseball, basketball and football official Leonard "Babe" Kelly, 86, of Ballard died July 17, 2002, in Ballard.
He was born April 3, 1916, in Spokane to Frank and Della (Bacon) Kelly. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
Mr. Kelly played baseball for the Tacoma Timbers semi-pro team and later coached and played for the Bremerton Red Raiders, an independent football team that existed for a few years following World War II.
He also served in the Navy and went on to work in transportation at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. His sports officiating career spanned 33 years, from 1933 to 1966.
Mr. Kelly was inducted into the Kitsap Oldtimers Association Hall of Fame in 1990 and was the last charter member of the Olympic Peninsula Umpires Association, which formed in 1945. He also held memberships in the American Legion and the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Driscoll) Kelly of Seattle; a son, Larry Kelly and his wife, Cheryl, of Port Orchard; four grandsons, Steven Elliott, Chad Welfl, and Scott and Chris Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Dalton; three nieces, Dale Kelly of Hansville, Cynthia of Arizona and Patty; two nephews, Doug Kelly and Michael. He was preceded in death by brothers, three Fran, Larry, Howard and Floyd.
A reception in honor of Babe Kelly was held July 20 at the Baranof Bar in Seattle.
Lawrance Thornton
Lawrance Alfred Thornton, 87, of Bremerton died July 25, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born June 7, 1915, in Craig County, Okla., to Robert Joy and Ida Mae (Kinman) Thornton. He graduated from high school in Enid, Okla.
He married
Georgia Frances Hills on Oct. 30, 1938. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Thornton had worked as a boilermaker at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He had been a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Bremerton for more than 50 years. He also served as a board member and volunteer at the Bremerton Servicemen's Center.
Survivors include a son, Dennis R. Thornton and his wife, Ellen, of Bremerton; two daughters, Linda J. Wilkerson of Louisburg, Kan., and Julie A. Jackson and her husband, Paul, of Salt Lake City; three sisters, Helen Morrow of Coffeyville, Kan., Valjean Kellenberger of Claremore, Okla., and Letha Hughes of Peabody, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Edmiston and by brothers, Robert and James Thornton.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Bremerton.

Chuck Eng Tuai
Chuck Eng Tuai, 78, of Bremerton died July 22, 2002, after a short battle with cancer at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Toppenish to Eng and Chin (Shee) Tuai. He had been a resident of Kitsap County since 1933 and attended Bremerton High School.
Mr. Tuai took over his family's restaurant on Callow Avenue when his father died in 1943. Following World War II, he worked at Boeing and later in the supply department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport until his retirement.
In 1955, he became one of the first members of the Keyport Recreation Association. He helped cook at the organization's salmon bakes for 32 years.
Known as "Mr. Keyport, " Mr. Tuai also held memberships in the Bremerton Elks and the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. A favorite pastime was hunting pheasant.
Survivors include three brothers, Liem Tuai of Seattle, Kim Tuai of Vancouver, B.C., and Sham Tuai of Sedro Woolley; three sisters, Haonge (Kay) Lee of Aberdeen, Moi Tuai of Bremerton and Lom Nee March of Woodinville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Homie Chung.
Private family graveside services will be held at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Betty Deitz
Betty H. Deitz, 71, of Bremerton died July 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Corinth, N.D., to Nels and Louise (Gunderson) Nelson. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1948.
She married
Daniel D. Deitz on Jan. 14, 1949, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Deitz was a homemaker. She had worked for 11 years at the Naval Torpedo Station at Keyport.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Kathy Scheller and her husband, Chris, of Portland, Ore., Sandy Elton and her husband, Ernie, of Longview and Janis Freeman and her husband, Mark, of Bremerton; three grandchildren, Todd Deitz and his wife, Krista, of Sumner, Jennifer Sievers and her husband, Gene, of Auburn and Ryan Schiller of Seattle; and a great-grandson, Karsten Deitz of Sumner.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Kathleen O'Brien Kamps
Kathleen O'Brien Kamps, 43, of Kingston died of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) July 19, 2002, in Kingston.
She was born May 8, 1959, in Swinden, England, to Frederick and Janet (Basmajian) O'Brien. She graduated from Helix High School in San Diego in 1977, from Green River Community College in Auburn in 1980 and received a bachelor of arts degree from Washington State University in Pullman in 1983.
She married
Paul Kamps on Aug. 29, 1987, in Puyallup.
Mrs. Kamps had worked as a flight attendant with Alaska Airlines for 12 years.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, working with children and the outdoors. She was affiliated with the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, now of Kingston; two sons, Byron and Conor Kamps, both of Kingston; and a sister, Karin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father.
A private family service is planned.

Mike Giddings
J. Michael "Mike" Giddings, 49, a resident of the Lofall area in Poulsbo for 14 years, died July 19, 2002, in Mazatlan, Mexico.
He was born April 2, 1953, in Ventura, Calif., to James and Alice (Warring) Giddings. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1971 and attended both Ventura Community College and Sonoma State College.
Mr. Giddings played bass guitar in a variety of bands in the Ventura area for 18 years.
He married
Jill Annette Hudson on Aug. 18, 1984, in Bremerton. Together they formed Rancho Studios, a recording studio in their home, and were working on a CD of original songs written, produced and performed by their group Stacked Cats.
Mr. Giddings enjoyed boating, scuba diving, guitar playing, songwriting and spending time with his cats.
He is survived by his wife and many friends.
A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Howard Mulvihill
Howard Dean Mulvihill, 58, of Poulsbo died July 21, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 22, 1943, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Howard Bertran Mulvihill and Avis B. (Gravelle) Mulvihill. He graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont., in 1964 and from Bates Technical College in Tacoma in 1983. He also attended Olympic College.
He married
Beverly A. Nash on June 26, 1971, in Kalispell.
Mr. Mulvihill served in the Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He later was a crane oiler at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 16 years. He also was a mechanic for several years at Ray's Union 76 in Poulsbo.
Mr. Mulvihill was a member of the International Association of Machinists District 160 and Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
He enjoyed reading and the outdoors. His favorite outdoor activities were walking, hiking, camping, bird watching and feeding birds.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Avis B. (Gravelle) Mulvihill Corcoran of Columbia Falls, Mont.; a son, Howard Dean Mulvihill Jr. of Poulsbo; a brother, Michael Corcoran of Kalispell; three sisters, Carol Foster of Colorado Springs, Colo., Pat Erickson and her husband, Roger, of Falls City and Kathy Huffman and her husband, Jared, of Blanchard, Idaho; two brothers-in-law, Earl Nash of Thorne Bay, Alaska, and Lee Nash of Ephrata; three nephews, Matt and Mark Foster, both of Colorado Springs, and Ben Erickson of Falls City; and two nieces, Sarah Nash Bird of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Mary Anne Nash Nunn of Thorne Bay. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Victor Nash.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Memorial Church, Eighth and Hostmark, in Poulsbo. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
