Amy Rodgers
Amy Jane Rodgers, 56, of Bremerton died July 15, 2002, at her home after a four-month battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 10, 1945, in San Francisco to Harry and Esme (Cheney) Boulter.
She was raised and educated in San Leandro, Calif., and Sacramento, Calif., graduating from high school in 1963. She had attended college for two years.
She married
Clyde Rodgers on Jan. 5, 1973, in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Rodgers was a homemaker. She also had worked for Kitsap Tenant Support Services.
She was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Bremerton. She enjoyed her grandchildren, her cats and knitting.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Robyn Dexter and her husband, Erik, of Spokane; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Catherine Dexter.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 NE Winters Road in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.

Christine Rice
Christine Margaret Rice, 92, of Bremerton died July 15, 2002, at Ashley Gardens in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Portland, Ore., to Michael and Clementina (Nero) Sckavone. She attended high school in Portland.
She married
Robert "Jack" Rice on April 8, 1934, in Portland. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Rice was a homemaker throughout her life. Along with her husband, she also co-owned Western Optical in Bremerton, retiring in 1971.
She enjoyed playing bridge, travel and family gatherings. She was a Roman Catholic.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Swengel and her husband, Roger, of Poulsbo and Dorothy Thayer and her husband, Derrille, of Bremerton; a sister, Rocky Palumbo and her husband, Michael, of Portland; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Sckavone, and by two sisters, Mary Paolo and Ann O'Neill.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lois Schoengart
Lois I. Schoengart, 85, of Bremerton died July 9, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1917, in Minneapolis to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bergstrom.
She married
Edward Schoengart in November 1935 in Minneapolis. The Schoengarts lived in Sunnyslope from 1948 until Mr. Schoengart's death in 1990.
Mrs. Schoengart was a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bremerton and a former member of the Sunnyslope Community Club. She enjoyed bingo.
Survivors include two sons, John Schoengart and his wife, Sue, of Bremerton and Mike Schoengart and his wife, Shirley, of Highland, Calif.; and three grandsons, Tony of Bremerton, Michael of Maryland and Jeremy of California. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Reiswig.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Elaine Smith
Elaine Mary Smith, 87, of Port Orchard died July 12, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born March 25, 1915, in Flaxville, Mont., to Verne and Annie (Rederburg) Christian.
She enjoyed cooking and had worked as an institutional cook. She welcomed occasions that allowed her to extend hospitality to family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Maurice and Richard Hoyt, both of Port Orchard, Raymond Hoyt of Olalla and Merrill Hoyt of Kamiah, Idaho; a daughter, Donna Buckendorf of Raymond;
18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Buckendorf, on July 1 of this year.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Katie Stewart
Catherine Louise "Katie" Stewart, 66, of Bremerton died July 16, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born May 23, 1936, in Pomona, Calif., to Bryce and Ida (Drumm) Frederick. She completed her education in San Bernardino, Calif.
She had owned and operated a homecare facility for Alzheimer's patients.
She was a member of the Eagles in Seattle and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, John Bradbury of Bremerton and Charles of California; a brother, Bruce Frederick and his wife, Bev, of Bremerton; three sisters, Carolyn Rogers and her husband, Bill, of California, Cecilia Welsh and her husband, Steve, of Selah, and Donna Rae Fortney and her husband, Jack, of Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bryce Frederick Jr.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial there at 11 a.m. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima.
Dell Jackson
Dell Martin Jackson, 83, of Poulsbo died July 13, 2002, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
He was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Wheeler to James and Cleo (Richardson) Van Boven. He graduated from Colville High School in 1936 and attended various military and trade schools while serving in the Armed Forces for more than 30 years.
He married
Beulah Gober on April 16, 1943, in Seattle.
Mr. Jackson served in the Army from 1949 to 1964, achieving the rank of chief warrant officer. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army Occupation Medal (Germany-Japan), the U.N. Service Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
He worked as a data processor for 30 years - while serving in the Army, with Western Farmers in Seattle and at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. He retired in 1980.
Mr. Jackson was an avid Mariners fan and loved to walk his dogs.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Martin Jackson of Kenmore; a daughter, Laura Miller of Poulsbo; and a grandson, Paul Miller, and his fiancee, Carly Frye.
A private family service is planned. Inurnment is under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Bud Phillips
Dan W. "Bud" Phillips, 69, of Silverdale died July 13, 2002, of cancer at his home.
He was born April 19, 1933, in Brinkman, Okla., to Dan J. and Dolly (McAden) Phillips. He attended Sunnyside High School and Olympic College.
Mr. Phillips served in the Army. He went on to work with Carpenters Union Local 1597 in Bremerton for more than 40 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Silverdale Grange and a car enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife, Ina (Collins) Phillips; five sons, Joedee of Palmetto, Fla., Buddy and his wife, Marlis, Earl and his wife, Windy, Billy, and Dan "Allen, " all of Silverdale; two daughters, Patti Cordero and her husband, Ed, of Seabeck and Dona of Montesano; a stepson, Bruce Pennington of Port Orchard; five stepdaughters, Lynn Matson and her husband, Harry, of Port Orchard, Pamela Carlson and her husband, Ken, of Bremerton, Debbie Beach and her husband, Steve, and Vicki Brown and her husband, Les, all of Silverdale, and Bobbi Waters and her husband, Jerry, of Fallon, Nev.; a brother, Jim D. Phillips and his wife, Arloah, of Bremerton; a sister, LaDeen Ryan and her husband, Glen, of Mountain Home, Idaho; 50 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mr. Phillips' home, 7200 Newberry Hill Road in Silverdale. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Candy Prentice
Candice E. "Candy" Prentice, 52, of Port Orchard died July 16, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 4, 1950, in Montgomery, Ala., to Elmer and Dorrine (Johnson) Booth. She graduated from the nursing program at Everett Community College in 1975.
She married
Corey Prentice on March 16, 1986, in Monroe.
Mrs. Prentice lived in Monroe for 20 years, working at Valley General Hospital in the emergency department and at Monroe Convalescent Center. She later worked as a registered nurse at Providence Hospital in Everett.
She was a devout Christian. She loved spending time with her family, riding horses, playing cribbage, trout fishing and making pancakes.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Tod McLaughlin and his wife, Lori, of Wenatchee; two daughters, Christine Bruner and her husband, Eric, of Woodbridge, Va., and Josie Bratchuk and her husband, Ivan, of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Tamara Schultz and her husband, Mick, of Newport, Wash.; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Sidney, Kaele and Jessica. She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven E. Booth.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dalkena Community Church in Usk, Wash.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Donald Cressman
Donald E. Cressman, 70, of Bremerton died July 13, 2002, of a heart attack in Bremerton.
He was born July 26, 1931, in Seattle to Berry H. and Elizabeth (Prigger) Cressman. He graduated from West High School in Bremerton in 1949 and from Olympic College in 1975.
Mr. Cressman served with the Marine Corps and the Army during the Korean War. He also served two tours of duty with the Army in Vietnam.
He retired from the Army in 1973 after 21 years. He achieved the rank of chief warrant officer.
Mr. Cressman later worked at Naval Submarine Base Bangor and traveled extensively with the Merchant Marine.
In recent years, he enjoyed retirement, visiting with family and friends and caring for stray animals.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lola Dea (Madison) Cressman; two sons, Donald H. Cressman of Spanaway and Ronald H. Cressman and his wife, Julie, stationed in Ohio with the Air Force; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn (Cressman) Madsen and her husband, David, of Stanwood; two sisters, Jackie Montgomery of Moab, Utah, and Vicki Emel of Bremerton; and five grandchildren, Donald H. Cressman Jr., Jennifer M. Cressman, Stefanie A. Cressman, Joshua D. Madsen and Alison M. Madsen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Barry H. Cressman, who was killed in action in Korea.
At his request, no services will be held. Mr. Cressman will be inurned in the Daffodil section of Forest Lawn cemetery alongside his parents and other family members. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Lyle Stokesbary
Lyle C. Stokesbary, 88, of Bremerton died July 12, 2002, of congestive heart failure at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale. He had been a Silverdale resident for 56 years.
He was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Corwith, Iowa, to Clint and Ada Stokesbary.
He married
Vivian Burton on June 18, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Mr. Stokesbary served in the Army from 1945 to 1948, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He received his GED through Bremerton High School in 1952.
He went on to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring as chief fire inspector in 1972.
Mr. Stokesbary was a Mason and a member of the Methodist church. He enjoyed hiking in the Olympic Mountains.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn of Kirkland and Bill of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Sandra Dunlap of Bremerton; a brother, Marvin Stokesbary of Minnesota; four sisters, Ruth Law, Bonnie Osnes and Maxine Upmeyer, all of Iowa, and Phyllis Devens of Arizona; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred, and two brothers, Burt and Glenn.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kitsap Golf and Country Club, 3885 Golf Club Hill Road in Bremerton.
