Dick Day
Richard B. "Dick" Day, 70, of Bremerton died July 11, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Bremerton to Bryan Orin and Swea Virginia (Erickson) Day. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1950 and attended Olympic College.
He married Margaret Mary (Holy) Day on April 11, 1953, in McAlester, Okla. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Day served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He went on to work as a weapons test director for 35 years with Lockheed, Boeing, Westinghouse and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport. He retired from Keyport in 1991.
Mr. Day was a member of the Bremerton Yacht Club and American Legion Post 149. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include a son, Robert Day of Bremerton; two daughters, Phyllis Root of Costa Rica, and Jenny Day Walden of Seattle; a brother, Gary Orin Day of Bremerton; five grandchildren, Bill Root of Belfair, Jessica Root of Costa Rica, Chris Day of Bremerton, and Spencer and Riley Walden, both of Seattle; and one great-grandson, Derrick Root of Costa Rica. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Cramlet of Sweet Home, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with a reception following also at Miller-Woodlawn.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Washington Affiliate, 557 Roy St., Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109-4219.

Lisa Walthall
Lisa Lynn Walthall, 35, of Bremerton died July 9, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born May 4, 1967, in Bremerton to Kenneth A. and Sharon M. (Jessup) Barnett. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1985 and from Eton Technical Institute in Bremerton.
She worked as a medical assistant in the offices of Drs. Yuen San Yee and Pankaj Sharma in Bremerton.
She enjoyed reading and collecting strawberry items. She was a member of Bremerton Evangelical Covenant Church.
Survivors include her parents, Sharon (Jessup) Bobbitt of Bremerton and Kenneth A. Barnett of Oregon; a son, Steven Walthall of Port Orchard; two daughters, Elizabeth and Katrina Walthall, both of Port Orchard; three sisters, Kelly Tufts and Tami Foster and her husband, Derek, all of Bremerton, and Tina Smith and her husband, Troy, of Colorado; two nephews, Michael Wagner of Fort Stewart, Ga., and Christopher Gee of Virginia Beach, Va.; a niece, Christina McIntyre of Bremerton; and her grandmother, and H. Marie Jessup of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bremerton Evangelical Covenant Church. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kitsap Humane Society, 9167 Dickey Road NW, Silverdale, WA 98383, or to Bremerton Evangelical Covenant Church.

Bill Hallman
William John "Bill" Hallman, 87, of Bremerton died July 5, 2002, at Later Years Family Care Center in Bremerton.
He was born June 28, 1915, in Scandia to Elis August and Eva (Morgan) Hallman. He graduated from Poulsbo High School.
He married Hulda Peterson. She died in 1995.
Mr. Hallman had worked at the Keyport Naval Torpedo Station as a quality control technician. He retired in 1977.
He was very active in Chico Alliance Church. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed travel.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Newling; a brother, David Hallman and his wife, Opal, of Seabeck; two sisters, Doris Mattson of Bainbridge Island and Roda Brown of Canada; two granddaughters, Charlene Wilkerson of Virginia and Sherry Hallman of Washington; a grandson, Jeff Hallman of Silverdale; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Joey Wilkerson, both of Virginia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Ted Hallman; and two sisters, Calla Brickley and Goldie Hugbo.
A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service follows at 5 p.m. Friday at Chico Alliance Church.

Lewis Napolitana
Lewis Francis Napolitana, 95, of Bremerton died July 11, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 25, 1907, in Logansport, Ind., to Pellgrino and Mary (Asenda) Napolitano. He graduated from Kokomo High School in Kokomo, Ind.
Mr. Napolitana served in the Navy from 1927 to 1947, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Service Medal with five Battle Stars and two Philippine Liberation Medals with two Bronze Stars.
He went on to work in the supply department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 20 years, retiring in 1965.
He married Mary Hoskin in January 1976. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Napolitana was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 269, the American Legion and the Kitsap Senior Singles Club, all in Bremerton, the Port Orchard Eagles, the Sons of Norway, and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
He was an avid salmon and trout fisherman and also enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include a son, Roy DeBoer and his wife, Bea, of Port Orchard; a niece, Phyllis Clark of Kokomo; a nephew, Roger Clark of Kokomo; an uncle, Frank Beatrice of Kokomo; three grandchildren, Nicole Miller and Eric and David DeBoer; and five great-grandchildren, Devlan, Alena, Brent and Julliana Miller, and Ericka DeBoer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Toy Napolitano; and two sisters, Martha Napolitano and Mary Delslager.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass there at 11 a.m. and a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Myrtle Tyson
Former Bremerton resident Myrtle E. (Bell) Tyson, 68, of Camano Island died July 9, 2002, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born July 7, 1934, in Crosby, Minn.
She married Loui Tyson on Oct. 28, 1997.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Paula Jett of Bremerton; three sons, Pat Winegarner of Denver, Tom Bell Zimmerman and Gordon Bell Burtrum, both of Minnesota; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at her home on Camano Island.
Flowers or memorial donations may be sent to her home at 2747 Fox St., Camano Island, WA 98282.

Montie Bowles
Montie C. Bowles, 79, of Port Orchard died June 30, 2002, in Port Orchard.
He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Humansville, Mo., to Joe and Ola Bowles. He graduated from high school in Redlands, Calif., in 1941.
Mr. Bowles served in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Betty L. Lyon, on Aug. 22, 1942, in Los Angeles. The couple moved to Ventura, Calif., and lived there for many years.
In California, Mr. Bowles worked as a carpenter, as a member of the Teamsters Union and with Knudsen Creamery for 20 years.
He had been very active in the Masonic Lodge in Santa Paula, Calif., and served as a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason in Santa Barbara, Calif.
After his retirement in 1985, Mr. Bowles and his wife traveled for 10 years. They visited all 48 states on the U.S. mainland, Canada and Nova Scotia.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; two sons, Jim and his wife, Martha, of Moorpark, Calif., and Billy Joe and his wife, Colleen, of Ventura, Calif.; three daughters, Sharon Jerles and her husband, Jim, Monty York and her husband, Ed, and Kelly McCloskey and her husband, Mark, all of Port Orchard; two brothers, James of Pahrump, Nev., and Dale and his wife, Ginger, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
At his request, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Betty Fiester
Betty Jane (Gudelsky) Fiester, 80, of Poulsbo died June 28, 2002, of pneumonia at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born July 11, 1921, in Muskegon, Mich., to Benjamin and Gretchen (Herrendeen) Gudelsky. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1939.
She married Lewis Nelson Fiester on Dec. 13, 1941, in Biloxi, Miss. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Fiester was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies were collecting antiques, gardening and decorating.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Thomas L. Fiester of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Debbie L. (Fiester) Ayers of Port Ludlow; six sisters, Hazel Sonderhouse of Montague, Mich., Nancy Rebedew and Marva Tousey, both of Norton Shores, Mich., Frances Belgrave of Tulsa, Okla., Dorothy George of Midway, Utah, and Maxine Hancock of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Jennifer and Paige; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Gudelsky and Mary Morgan.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Bud Reeves Sr.
Thomas Weldon "Bud" Reeves Sr., 83, of Poulsbo died after a long battle with heart disease July 4, 2002, in Chico, Calif.
He was born June 8, 1919, in Granite, Okla., to William and Maud Reeves.
Mr. Reeves served with the Navy Seabees' 55th Battalion during World War II.
He moved his family from the San Francisco Bay area to Poulsbo in 1969. In 2000, he and his wife, Helen, bought a home in Chico, Calif., becoming "snowbirds."
Mr. Reeves was a life member of Masonic Lodge 370 in San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; a son, David of Poulsbo; a daughter, Pamala Kirkland of Poulsbo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Claude Larson
Claude Gordon Larson, 63, of Bremerton died July 9, 2002, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
He was born June 17, 1939, in Chicago to Claus and Margaret (Tymon) Larson.
Mr. Larson served in the Navy from 1959 to 1969. He later worked for 18 years as a marine equipment specialist and technician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1994.
He and his wife, Grace, were married May 9, 1988, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Larson was a Mason. He also enjoyed motorcycling and spending time with his cat, Karma, and his dog, Maggie.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Dennis and Shawn, both of Bremerton; and a stepdaughter, Cathy Cartmill of LaConner.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. July 20 at Abundant Life Foursquare Church, 5610 Kitsap Way in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to an animal rescue organization of the donor's choice.

Kenneth Braniff
Kenneth A. Braniff, 85, of Bremerton died of a stroke June 24, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1917, in Ontario, Canada, to Arthur James and Viola (Reilly) Braniff, and moved to Seattle as a small child. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1936, from the University of Washington in 1940 and attended Edison Technical School in Seattle from 1945 to 1949.
He married Noreen Overland on July 8, 1949, in Everett.
One of his early jobs was helping to paint one of the first FM radio towers in the Seattle area for KISW. He also was employed there for a short time as a broadcaster.
Mr. Braniff served as a radioman in the Navy from 1940 to 1945. He attained the rank of chief first class.
He worked for 30 years at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport. He retired in 1975 and enjoyed spending time at his cabin near Blewett Pass.
Mr. Braniff was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the James Willard Schultz Society and the University of Washington Tyee organization.
He was interested in Native American culture, having participated in many events, and cultivating many friendships among Native Americans. He was given the name Kenny Good Eagle by the Blackfoot Nation.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Craig Braniff of Mount Vernon and Jess Curtis Braniff of Shoreline; a daughter, Suzette Kerry Storbakken of Silverdale; and four grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held. However, Mr. Braniff received a Native American ceremonial blessing by Steve and Rita Old Coyote.
Memorial donations may be made to Fircrest School, 15230 15th Ave. NE, Shoreline, WA 98155, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
