Michael O'Malley
Michael Andrew O'Malley, 60, of Port Orchard died July 3, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Ballard to Eugene H. and Lila (Knight) O'Malley. He attended North Thurston High School and later graduated from Oak Harbor High School.
He married
the former Lana M. White on Dec. 11, 1961, in Las Vegas.
Mr. O'Malley served in the Navy from 1959 to 1982, first as an aviation electronics technician and later as a master-at-arms, attaining the rank of senior chief petty officer. He earned five Good Conduct medals and the Navy Achievement Medal.
He then served for 19 years as a Port Orchard police officer.
His interests included motorcycle riding, model trains and model shipbuilding.
He is survived by his wife, of Port Orchard; two daughters, Dawn M. Cortes of Topsham, Maine, and Tara A. Carley of Port Orchard; and four grandchildren, Krista, Cameron, Logan and Emi.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel, 1151 Mitchell Ave. in Port Orchard.
Pieter Deurloo
Pieter Deurloo, 82, of Port Orchard died July 14, 2002, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton following a heart attack.
He was born March 9, 1920, in Delft, Holland, to Pieter and Pietja (Brouwer) Deurloo.
He married
Elizabeth Vander Klugt on Jan. 30, 1948, in Delft, and later that year the couple moved to Canada. Mr. Deurloo operated his own contracting business in Canada and also sponsored many Dutch immigrants. In 1962, he moved to Waterford, Conn., and worked as a contractor and cabinet maker. His wife died in 1982, and he moved to Washington in 1994.
Mr. Deurloo enjoyed vegetable gardening, raising chickens and traveling. He was a fan of the Seattle Mariners and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by a son, Pieter G. Deurloo of Bainbridge, Pa.; two daughters, Louise E. Welliver of Port Orchard and Margaret J. Edmonds of Poway, Calif.; two brothers, Jan Deurloo of Delft and Jacob Deurloo of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Cornelia P.J. Van Haaster of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Pietje Beest of Holland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Antonie and Gerrit Deurloo.
There will be no services. Donations in his name can be made to a charity of your choice.
Grant Barton
Former Bremerton resident Grant Eddie Barton, 84, of Medford, Ore., died June 30, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Portland, Ore.
He served in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
He married
Annette M. Selvage on June 2, 1962, in Bremerton. She died in 1992.
Mr. Barton had been employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years. He had also worked at a shipyard in Long Beach, Calif., and at Todd and Lockheed shipyards in Seattle.
He moved from Bremerton to Medford five years ago. He had been a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Mr. Barton enjoyed photography and family history.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hylton of Portland, Ore.; two sons, Dennis Barton of Port Orchard and Ken Barton of Rogue River, Ore.; a brother, Donald Barton of Elma; a niece; two nephews; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at noon Thursday at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Hull & Hull Funeral Directors of Grants Pass, Ore.
Maxine Hudson
Maxine M. Hudson, 89, of Bremerton died from complications of a stroke July 3, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born May 5, 1913, in Omaha, Neb., to A.E. and Etta M. (Johnson) Hutchings. She graduated from high school in Nampa, Idaho, in 1932.
She married
Gordon Hudson on July 15, 1935, in Seattle.
Mrs. Hudson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bremerton. She also was affiliated with Reliance Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Kitsap Garden Club and the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gerald Hudson and his wife, Marijo, and Douglas Hudson and his wife, Nancy, all of Bremerton; a sister, Jean Reeves of Citrus Heights, Calif.; two grandchildren, Daniel Hudson and Shannon Batchelor; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Hudson and Andrew, Justin and Tanner Batchelor.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. July 12 at the First United Methodist Church, 1150 Marine Drive in Bremerton.
Inurnment is under the direction of the People's Memorial Association.

Elsie MacGeorge
Elsie E. MacGeorge, 72, of Belfair died June 30, 2002, of cancer at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Cody, Wyo., to George and Blanch Baker. She graduated from high school in Missoula, Mont., in 1948.
She married
Richard MacGeorge on April 29, 1977, in Gig Harbor.
Mrs. MacGeorge had owned Candlestick House Antiques in Belfair for 20 years. She also was a homemaker.
She was an avid gardener and collector of antique glass.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary Cole of Renton and James Downing of Aberdeen; a daughter, Karla Norman of Port Orchard; two sisters, Charlotte Short of Kalispell, Mont., and Francine Elton of Whitefish, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lewis, in 1994 and by a sister, Marion Williams.

Virginia Eiler
Virginia Ann Eiler, 49, of Bremerton died June 19, 2002, of multiple organ failure at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma.
She was born Oct. 30, 1952, in Olivia, Minn., to Jerome and LaVerna (Seidl) Eiler. She graduated from Lake Lillian High School in Bird Island, Minn., in 1972 and received a medical assistant's degree from Eton Technical Institute in Seattle in 1994.
She served in the Navy from 1972 to 1992, retiring as a chief petty officer. She was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and two Navy Achievement Medals.
During her naval career, she worked as a physical-occupational therapist and an independent duty technician.
Her favorite pastimes were reading and writing books. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
She is survived by her mother, four brothers and five sisters. Her father preceded her in death.

Fred Schoneman
Fred S. Schoneman, 88, of Bremerton died June 29, 2002, from complications of asbestosis and diabetes.
He was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Arthur and Ragnhild (Kindingsland) Schoneman. He graduated from Cliffside Park High School in Cliffside Park, N.J., and graduated in 1936 from the New York State Ranger School at Syracuse University where he studied forestry, surveying and construction engineering.
Following his college graduation, Mr. Schoneman worked at a tree nursery; as a forester in Gouverneur, N.Y.; a mine surveyor; an employee at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York; and as a construction surveyor in Brazil and in the Aleutian Islands.
He moved his family to Bremerton in 1945 when he was first employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the public works department and later in the director shop aligning big guns on ships.
In 1946, he was hired by the city of Bremerton, working as a field engineer for 12 years and a street superintendent for two years. He later served the city for 17 years as commissioner of public works.
He was later elected Port of Bremerton commissioner and held that position for 12 years. When he retired at the age of 84, Mr. Schoneman had devoted 45 years of service to Bremerton.
His volunteer involvement included work with the YMCA, Salvation Army, Red Cross, the Flagship Turner Joy, the Sinclair Landing Association, the Navy League, the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce, the Missouri Siting Committee, the Economic Development Council and the Downtown Revitalization Task Force.
Mr. Schoneman also was a member of Bremerton Elks 1181, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Nile Temple and the Lions Club.
He married
Margaret Whitcomb in Montreal, Canada, on May 17, 1940. She died in 1972.
He married
Katherine Lee in 1977. Survivors include his wife; a son, Noel Schoneman and his wife, Carol, of Sammamish; three daughters, Mary Whittaker and her husband, Bernie, of Holly, Sue Brannan and her husband, Bruce, and Ellie Coombe and her husband, Jeff, all of Bremerton; a sister, Alice Myhre of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Scott Whittaker, Jay Whittaker and his wife, Elizabeth, Kevin Bell and his wife, Kendra, Casey Brannan, and Corey and Mathew Coombe; and two great-grandchildren, Bryley and Hanson Bell.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. July 11 at Manette Community Church, E. 13th St. and Hayward Avenue in East Bremerton.

Marlena Estep Wilch
Former Bremerton resident Marlena L. Estep Wilch, 28, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died June 25, 2002, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Savoy, Ark.
She was born Nov. 4, 1973, in Gravette, Ark. She grew up in Siloam Springs.
She married
Peter C. Wilch on Feb. 2, 1998.
Mrs. Wilch worked as public safety dispatcher for the University of Arkansas.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shannera D. Estep; her mother and stepfather, Reeva and Elvan Allen; four sisters, Crystal Knox, Tracy Butler, Margaret Fields and Jeanene Cochran; two stepbrothers, Elvan Allen III and Jason Allen; and a stepsister, Kathryn Allen. Her father, Perry Estep, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held for family members from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. for others at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Etta Ames
Etta Jane Ames, 87, of Port Orchard died June 27, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1915, in Wauchula, Fla., to John Henry and Etta Blanche (Criss) Hubbard.
She married
Gilbert S. Ames on Jan. 27, 1934. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Robins and her husband, Charles, of East Wenatchee, Janet Wooten and her husband, Ronald, of Port Orchard, and Judith "Judy" Stevens and her husband, Emsley, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Bill Jones of Idaho and Kenny Jones of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie Harris and Margarite Nickles, and by two brothers, Thomas and Howard Hubbard.
Private family services are planned.
Doris Jimenez
Doris Y. Jimenez, 71, of Bremerton died June 22, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 23, 1931, in Hilo, Hawaii, to Kama and Matsu Higa. She graduated from Farrington High School in Honolulu.
She married
Enrique "Jim" Jimenez.
Mrs. Jimenez had worked in data processing at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed bingo and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert of Bremerton; four daughters, Rose Edwards of Sumner, Angie Tateishi and Carolanne Sunabe, both of Honolulu, and Gladys Mangosin of San Francisco; two sisters, Beatrice Arakaki and Betty Yogi, both of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Private services will be held in Honolulu at the National Memorial of the Pacific.
