Mildred (Aardahl) Dishman
Former Silverdale resident Mildred G. (Aardahl) Dishman, 82, of San Diego died Aug. 19, 2002, of a heart attack at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego.
She was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Towner, N.D. She graduated from Towner High School in 1937 and attended Mayville Teachers College in Mayville, N.D., for two years.
She married Floyd Dishman in San Diego in 1965.
Mrs. Dishman worked as a secretary with the Convair Division of General Dynamics in San Diego for 20 years, retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed her retirement, as well as cooking and raising orchids. She was a member of the Lutheran church and served as choir director and organist for Silverdale Lutheran Church in the 1960s.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe Aardahl of Kingston; a daughter, Sandra Perry of Hope, Idaho; a stepson, Keith Dishman of San Diego; a stepdaughter, Wanda Petree of Nipoma, Calif.; a brother, Curtis O. Anderson of Port Orchard; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at Christ Unity Church in El Cajon, Calif. Interment icon will be at a later date in Bremerton.

Mary Denton
Mary Myrtle Denton, 78, of Bremerton died Aug. 22, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Kennewick to John W. and Violet L. (Baxter) Luke.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and sewing.
Survivors include five sons, Jim Denton of Kirkland, Ken Denton of Sequim, Bill Denton of Redmond, Ore., Bob Denton of Snohomish and Ron Denton of Bellingham; two daughters, Sue Denton of Hayden, Idaho, and Debbie Coapstick of Ketchikan, Alaska; a brother, John Luke of Bremerton; a sister, Jean Tellinghusen of Port Orchard; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Tibbetts.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with a reception following at the funeral home. A potluck follows the reception at a family member's home.

Elizabeth Somogyi
Elizabeth Somogyi, 90, of Hansville died Aug. 20, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Union Town, Pa., to Charles and Elizabeth (Szabo) Punko.
She married Joseph Somogyi at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Jersey City, N.J. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Somogyi enjoyed traveling and sewing. She had worked as a seamstress.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Somogyi Jr. and John Somogyi, both of Hansville, and Andrew Somogyi of Poulsbo; a daughter, Elizabeth Hanley and her husband, Joseph, of Lynnwood, N.J.; and three grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Stephen Punko, and by a sister, Ethyl Lovero.
A graveside service was held Monday at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 557 Roy St., Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109-4219.

Lucy Tucker
Lucy G. Tucker, 87, of Port Orchard died Aug. 27, 2002, in Port Orchard from complications of a stroke.
She was born July 14, 1915, in Port Orchard to John and Josephine (Stevens) Shattuck. She had attended South Kitsap High School and business school.
She married William "Bill" Tucker in 1948 in Seattle. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Tucker worked in real estate sales with Pacesetter Homes in Seattle for 15 years. She also was employed as a sales clerk with the Washington Liquor Board in Edmonds for many years, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary 2338 in Port Orchard, a South Kitsap Helpline volunteer and served as treasurer for the Mosquito Fleet. She was active in refurbishing stuffed animals for donation to hospitals and other children's organizations.
Mrs. Tucker was honored as South Kitsap Woman of the Year in 1992.
Survivors include two brothers, Tom Endsley and his wife, Marge, of Port Orchard and Elder Shattuck and his wife, Barbara, of Omak; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Sage.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 9 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service follows the funeral service at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. A reception follows the graveside service at the Port Orchard Eagles.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

James Hartstrom
Former Bremerton resident James B. Hartstrom, 63, of Centralia died of cancer Aug. 26, 2002, at his home.
He was born March 24, 1939, in Elma to Carl and Georgie (Blunk) Hartstrom. He lived in Bremerton from 1953 to 1976, graduating from West High School in 1957 in the top 10 of his class and later receiving an associate degree from Olympic College.
In his youth, Mr. Hartstrom delivered newspapers, pumped gas and began working at Pacific Dry Cleaners in Bremerton at the age of 16. He went on to complete a marine machinist apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
In recent years, he owned and operated Hartstrom Brothers Construction in Centralia.
Mr. Hartstrom had served in the Washington National Guard.
He and his wife, Trudy, were married Feb. 20, 1977, in Bremerton. They later were divorced.
Mr. Hartstrom was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bremerton. He also participated in the Centralia Rainbow Assemblies Advisory Board and served as a Rainbow Dad.
He enjoyed storytelling, reading, antiques, heavy equipment, researching history and traveling old, country back roads.
Survivors include his former wife; two sons, Chad and Jeff Hartstrom, both of Centralia; two daughters, Heidi Flaugher and her husband, Brian, of Bremerton and Greta Hartstrom of Olympia; a brother, Bill Hartstrom and his wife, Shari, of Seattle; a niece and nephew, Stephanie and Chris Hartstrom, both of Seattle; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Tuesday funeral service at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.
Private burial will take place at the Elma Masonic cemetery.

Ruby Gordon
Ruby Frances Gordon, 88, of Keyport died of congestive heart failure Aug. 26, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 27, 1913, in Sioux City, Iowa, to James and Ethel McGowan.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed camping, cooking and reading. Her Christian faith was very important to her.
Survivors include her husband, Jack W. Gordon; two sons, John Bell and his wife, Karen, of Keyport and Jack K. Gordon and his wife, Maggie, of Houston; three daughters, Roberta Finley and her husband, Chuck, of Port Orchard, Donna Hixon and her husband, Donald, of Bremerton and Frances Murry and her husband, Brandon, of Greeley, Colo.; a brother, Keith Betts and his wife, Marian, of Seattle; a sister, Milly Benton of Redmond; a stepdaughter, Carol and her husband, Bill, of Florida; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Serifin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ethel Garrison
Ethel Lucille Garrison, 65, of Port Orchard died Aug. 27, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Puyallup to Conde and LuLu (Helgeson) Winslow. She had attended South Kitsap High School.
She married Ralph Garrison on Jan. 5, 1952, in Sunnyslope.
Mrs. Garrison was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo and bowling.
In the 1960s, she was a pitcher for a women's fastpitch hardball league in South Kitsap. She played with the Roomy Bloomers and the Mop Floppers.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Shane Garrison of Bremerton, Ward Garrison of Port Orchard and Dale Garrison of Seatac; a daughter, Lorilei Riley of Gig Harbor; three brothers, Jerry and Don Winslow, both of Port Orchard, and Bud Winslow of Arlington; two sisters, Alice Manley, her twin, of Manchester and Shirley Personette of Port Orchard; and three grandchildren, Jerod Garrison and Travis and Lindsey Riley. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Lucy G. Tucker, 87, of Port Orchard died Aug. 27, 2002, in Port Orchard from complications of a stroke.

Alda Larson
Alda Estelle Larson, 84, of Bremerton died Aug. 25, 2002, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born July 22, 1918, in Southern Pines, N.C., to Howard and Carlotta (Harps) Johnson.
She married Arthur T. Larson on March 4, 1942, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Larson was a homemaker. During World War II, she had worked as a telephone operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
A crafts enthusiast, she was a past president of the Learn-A-Craft Homemakers Club in Bremerton. She had been a member of the club for 40 years.
Mrs. Larson also enjoyed traveling with her husband. For many years, the couple wintered in Florida, California and Arizona.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert E. Larson of Bremerton; a daughter, Pat Roberts of Moses Lake; a brother, Nat Johnson of Staley, N.C.; a sister, Ella Mae Williams of Welford, S.C.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Jr.; three brothers, Howard Jr., DonL and John; and a sister, Peggy.
Inurnment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

M. Janet Kimball
M. Janet Kimball, 79, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Aug. 16, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard. She had been a resident of Sequim and Olalla.
She was born June 11, 1923, in Victoria, B.C., to James Marsden and Edna (McCrea) Lindsay-Alexander. She graduated from high school in Vancouver, B.C., and from Pitt Business School there.
She married Earle W. Kimball on Dec. 6, 1952, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. and Mrs. Kimball had owned and operated JEDPR Trailer Center in Portsmouth, N.H.
Mrs. Kimball was an accomplished cribbage player and had been a championship swimmer in her youth. She also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Rod A. Kimball and his wife, Patti, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two daughters, Page E. Gunter and her husband, Paul, of Olalla, and Dawn E. Kimball and her companion, Mark Stocks, of Agua Dulce, Calif.; a brother, Lindsay Alexander of Kelowna, B.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
