Clair Westfall
Clair H. "Curly" Westfall, 86, of Bremerton died Aug. 19, 2002, of Parkinson's disease at his home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Phillipsburg, Mont., to August and Zita (Daigle) Westfall. He graduated from Kellogg High School in Kellogg, Idaho.
Mr. Westfall served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, achieving the rank of corporal.
He married
Alice Brolliar in 1946 in Whitefish, Mont.
Mr. Westfall owned and operated Clair Motor Sales in Bremerton for 42 years. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed dancing, water skiing and cooking.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ron Westfall of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Sheryl Westfall of Port Orchard; a brother, Harold Westfall and wife, Bertha, of Bremerton; three sisters, Marie Smith and her husband, Bud, of Silverdale, Cel Schoner of Escondido, Calif., and Clara Richards and her husband, Rich, of Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren, Annie and Wyatt Westfall, both of Port Orchard.
A private family service was held Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Association, 1959 NE Pacific St., Division of Neurology, RG-27, Seattle, WA 98195 or to any organization which facilitates Parkinson's disease research.
Dortha Montford
Dortha Viola Montford, 80, of Bremerton died Aug. 20, 2002, at Claremont East Retirement Apartments in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in LaGrange, Mo., to James and Viola (Pritchard) Bane. She graduated from high school there in 1939.
She married
Vernon "Monty" Montford. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. Montford was a homemaker. She had worked in employee services at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
An avid traveler, Mrs. Montford also enjoyed reading and dancing. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Lindell Schmittler and his wife, Tami, of Seabeck and Darrell Schmittler and his wife, Stephanie, of Bremerton; a stepson, Monty Johnson and his wife, Dianne, of Fox Island; a stepdaughter, Marilynn Pearson of Mountlake Terrace; a brother, Chester Bane of Tuscon, Ariz.; three sisters, Vivian Beilstein of Palmyra, Mo., Pauline Bane of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Roberta Young of Royal, Ark.; four grandchildren, Darren, Darrell, Kyle and Melvin; and several great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Linda, and a brother, Gene.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Claremont East, 2707 Clare Ave.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.

Opal Martin
Opal Martin, 94, of Port Orchard died Aug. 16, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born May 21, 1908, in Oklahoma to William and Lelah (Kennedy) Waddell. She graduated from high school in Oklahoma.
She married
Claude Martin on Jan. 1, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Martin had been employed as fountain manager with J.J. Newberry in El Centro, Calif., for 27 years and was well-known for the pies she baked there. She later worked as the food service manager at Holtville High School in California for a number of years.
She loved her dachshund, Gretchen, who was given to her by family members.
Survivors include a son, Jay Waldman of Port Orchard; and four grandchildren, Kathy Backman of Port Orchard, David Waldman of Lemon Grove, Calif., William Waldman of Leesburg, Va., and Nancy Waldman of Richmond, Va.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in San Diego.

Francisco Ulloa
Francisco C. Ulloa, 67, of Port Orchard died Aug. 15, 2002, at the University of Washington Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Guam to Francisco and Teresa (Cepeda) Ulloa.
He married
Judith Pablo on Feb. 4, 1978, in Guam.
Mr. Ulloa served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955. He had been a boxer during his military service.
He went on to work for the government of Guam as a messenger clerk with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Ulloa was a Roman Catholic. He loved children and enjoyed bird watching, gardening and playing pranks.
Survivors include his wife; his mother-in-law, Nieves Pablo of Guam; a daughter, Therese Ulloa of Port Orchard; a brother, George Ulloa of Guam; and four sisters, Rosalia Del Rosario and Dorothy Millar, both of Guam, Estefania Leakes of San Diego and Lucy Blas of El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roman Ulloa.
No local service will be held.
A Mass will be celebrated at Guam Memorial Park in Leyang, Barrigada, Guam.

Neal Bercot
Neal M. Bercot, 80, of Bremerton died from complications of cancer Aug. 19, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Sultan to William J. and Florence (Shay) Bercot. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1940.
He married
Ruth E. Powell on Jan. 31, 1942, in Bremerton.
Mr. Bercot served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 as a shipfitter second class. He went on to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 26 years, retiring in 1971 as a welder foreman.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239 and held life memberships in Elks Lodge 1181 and the William H. Upton Masonic Lodge 206, all in Bremerton.
Mr. Bercot enjoyed his family and traveling with his wife. (The Bercots had wintered in Arizona for many years). Digging for razor clams was one of his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary of Bremerton; a daughter, Janet Wagner of Bremerton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Bill.
At his request, no services will be held.
Joan Werter
Joan Helen Werter, 76, of Bainbridge Island died of complications due to lung cancer Aug. 13, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 30, 1926, in St. Louis to Merrill and Mabel (Becker) Baker. She graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles in 1944.
She married
Don Werter on June 13, 1953, in Las Vegas.
Mrs. Werter had worked as an administrative assistant with the South Bay Union High School District in Hermosa Beach, Calif., and at Clapp School in Huntington Beach, Calif. She retired in 1988 after 20 years.
She was a talented artist and had a passion for slot machines.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Jeff Werter and his wife, Debbie, of Antioch, Calif.; a daughter, Deborah Werter of Redwood City, Calif.; a brother, John Baker of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Wanda Penn of San Rafael, Calif., and Patricia Wolf of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren, Brian and Laura.
At her request, services will be private.

Maxine Bushnell
Former Port Orchard resident Neva "Maxine" Bushnell, 77, of Templeton, Calif., died Aug. 16, 2002, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
She was born April 16, 1925, in Blue Eye, Mo., to William "Chester" and Ollie (Garrison) Gilbert. She grew up in the Ozark Mountains.
She married
Charles "Chuck" Bushnell on Oct. 17, 1969, in Port Orchard. The couple lived in Port Orchard until Mr. Bushnell's retirement, when they began traveling fulltime.
Mrs. Bushnell was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling across the United States to visit family and friends. Other interests were country music, square dancing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Renee Becerra and her husband, John, of Templeton and Linda Sisco of Tacoma; a son, Roger Sisco of Tahuyeh; a sister, Shirley Barton and her husband, Don, of San Pedro, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Howard, and a granddaughter, Lisa.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero, Calif.
Bee Evans
Bernice E. "Bee" Evans, 79, of Port Orchard died Aug. 19, 2002, at her home.
She was born June 20, 1923, in Aberdeen to Charles and Olive (Trumpower) Smith. She graduated from Weatherwax High School there in 1941.
She married
Harry W. Wilson on Aug. 28, 1943, in Aberdeen. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Her second husband was Robert Evans. He also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Evans was employed for 35 years with Navy Transit Family Housing in Bremerton, retiring in 1988.
She was an avid Mariners fan. Gardening and cooking also were favorite pastimes.
Survivors include a son, Charles Wilson of Kenmore; a brother, James Smith of Aberdeen; a sister, Charlene Van Orsdol of Aberdeen; and two grandchildren, Stuart and Christine Wilson. She also was preceded in death by a son, Harry Wilson, and by two siblings, Edna Wonsewicz and Richard Smith.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.

Robert Baxter
Former Tracyton resident Robert L. Baxter, 84, of Kingman, Ariz., died Aug. 19, 2002, from complications of prostate cancer in Kingman.
He was born May 23, 1918, in Fall City to Benjamin and Anna Baxter. He graduated from Fall City High School in 1937.
He married
Jessie Wilson in Duvall on March 10, 1939. They had been married
for 63 years.
Mr. Baxter was a World War II veteran. He served with the Navy in Okinawa.
He retired in 1972 from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 32 years of service as a welder supervisor.
Mr. Baxter was an avid gardener. He was a former Round Squares square dancer and caller and had been instrumental in the construction of the Kitsap Square Dance Center.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Bob and his wife, Jan, of Port Orchard, Mike and his wife, Cindy, of Centerville, Idaho, and Carol and her husband, Jim, of Kingman; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
In observation of his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Arizona Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a hospice of the donor's choice.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at the family home in Kingman.
Donald Erdahl
Donald S. Erdahl, 69, of Gig Harbor died Aug. 16, 2002, in Gig Harbor. Mr. Erdahl had lived in Bremerton, Port Orchard and Belfair.
He was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Morris, Minn. He attended Bremerton High School until he was drafted into the Army in the 11th grade.
Mr. Erdahl served with the Army as a platoon sergeant during the Korean War.
He married
Joan Wood on Nov. 12, 1955, in Bremerton. They later divorced.
Mr. Erdahl worked as a fireman at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 23 years and served as fire marshall in Port Orchard for five years.
He was affiliated with the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his former wife, Joan Easter of Tacoma; a son, Rock Erdahl of Washington state; three daughters, Teri Schiele and Kristin Williams, both of Washington state, and Jane Macey of Pennsylvania; a sister, Donna Rand of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Quincy, Emily, Zack, Courtney, Amelia, Sydney and Ashley.
