William Melitch
William Melitch, 90, of Port Orchard died July 29, 2002, of a stroke at Orchard Pointe in Port Orchard.
He was born April 18, 1912, in Kemmer, Wyo., to Valentine and Anna (Miller) Melitch. He graduated from Renton High School.
He married Nora Bravin in Seattle in 1937.
Mr. Melitch had worked as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He enjoyed square dancing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Helen Parutto of California. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Wagner.

Herman Busse
Herman John Busse, 90, of Bremerton died July 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 23, 1912, in Shickley, Neb., to Henry Carl and Anna Caroline Henrietta (Huckfeldt) Busse. He attended high school in Shickley.
He married Thressa Pearl Kelly on July 12, 1939, in Boise, Idaho. She died in 1988.
Mr. Busse had worked as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also designed and built custom boat trailers.
He was a member of the Elks and the Lutheran church. He enjoyed fishing and golf.
Survivors include a son, Roy J. Busse and his wife, Jan, of Barrington Hills, Ill.; two brothers, Robert Busse of California and Al Busse of Seattle; a sister, Lila Heinz of Issaquah; two grandchildren, Vicki M. Foege and her husband, Tom, of Kent, and Kristen Teske and her husband, Tony, of Seattle; and one great-grandchild, Logan M. Foege of Kent. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Rose Leeper, Martha Nugent, Helen Waters and Carl and Claire Busse.
A private family memorial service is planned. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Georgia Coleman-Smith
Former Bremerton resident Georgia Coleman-Smith, 85, of Paso Robles, Calif., died Aug. 1, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Los Angeles.
She married Virgil Wilson Coleman on Dec. 31, 1933, in Breckenridge, Mich. He died in 1980.
She married Dale H. Smith on March 23, 1984, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death.
While living in Bremerton in the 1950s, she worked for Sears as a division manager of ladies ready-to-wear clothes. She was a member of a professional women's club in Bremerton, serving as president of the organization.
She also was a member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bremerton and maintained the membership when she moved to Paso Robles. She attended Plymouth Congregational Church in Paso Robles.
Mrs. Coleman-Smith had been active as a Girl Scout leader and in PTA when her daughters were in school and scouting. Her hobbies included gardening, needlework, ceramics and all types of crafts.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Davis and her husband, Jim, of Paso Robles and Sharon Lowry and her husband, Norman, of Cocoa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Gayle McCotter and Colleen Ringos, both of Bremerton; one sister, Jewel Jelink of Downey, Calif.; four grandchildren, Teri Lowry of Mobile, Ala., Roger Lowry of Bremerton, Kathy Lowe of Rockledge, Fla., and Brenda Costanzo of San Jose, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and family friends Robert and Sherri Paulson and family of Port Orchard. She was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Schuman, and four sisters, Peggy Smiley, Carmel Stamper, Fern Monique and Florence McPherson.
Viewing will be from 9:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment icon will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles.

Philip Judt
Philip P. Judt, 65, of Tahuya died July 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Killdeer, N.D., to Peter P. Judt and Cecelia M. (Guimont) Judt. He graduated from high school in Vallejo, Calif., in 1953 and from Vallejo College in 1955.
He and his wife, Darla S. Judt, moved to the Bremerton area in 1974.
Mr. Judt was an editor and publisher at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Peter and his wife, Charlene, of Enumclaw, Karl and his wife, Mary, of Lakebay, Jason and his wife, Jennifer, of Pinole, Calif., Andrew of El Cerrito, Calif., and Paul and his wife, Trisa, of Tahuya; three daughters, Charla Torres and her husband, Johnny, of Port Orchard, Terri Lopez of Port Orchard and Dawn Stoll of Lompoc, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon, and a great-aunt, Priscilla Guimont.
Mr. Judt was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers football team. He also enjoyed fishing trips, especially to Klamath, Calif.
At his request, there will be no services.

Kenneth Erickson
Kenneth Lee Erickson, 46, of Port Orchard died July 31, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.
He was born July 3, 1956, in Bremerton to Peter and Alida (deKoning) Erickson. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1974.
Mr. Erickson served in the Army from 1974 to 1977. He later served in the Air Force Reserve and the Coast Guard Reserve.
He married Donna Beal on March 7, 1981, in Bremerton.
Mr. Erickson worked for 25 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as both a firefighter/emergency medical technician and a nuclear machinist in Shop 38.
He also volunteered with Kitsap County Fire District 7. He received a National Heroism Award for his involvement with the Kona Village fire in Bremerton in 1997.
Mr. Erickson was an avid photographer and expert marksman. He also enjoyed hiking.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, now of Poulsbo; a son, Jon Erickson of Port Orchard; two daughters, Donya and Erin Erickson, both of Port Orchard; a brother, Donald Erickson of Silverdale; and his twin sister, Sandra L. Erickson of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Bob Swanson
Former Bremerton resident Bob W. Swanson, 68, of Allyn died July 24, 2002, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle of complications from a stroke.
He was born June 15, 1934, in Aberdeen to Karl and Elaine Swanson. His father owned and operated the Variety Bakery in Bremerton during the 1930s and 1940s.
Mr. Swanson graduated from Bremerton High School in 1952.
He took over Berg's Automotive from Otto Berg in the mid-1950s, operating under the name Bob's Chevron Service and later as Bob's Automotive. The business was at Burwell Street and Montgomery Avenue in Bremerton for more than 30 years.
Mr. Swanson moved his home and business to Allyn in 1985. He operated North Mason Automotive there until his death.
He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Ginger.
His wife, Nancy, preceded him in death in 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Maurine Jones and her husband, Steve, of Bremerton; two sons, Steve of Poulsbo and Brian and his wife, Stacy, of Seattle; a grandson, Jan Jones of Bremerton and his former wife, Sally, of Seattle; two granddaughters, Taylor and Zoe, both of Seattle; a brother, Hugh of Union; and two nieces, Leanne and Susie, both of Union.
A celebration of Mr. Swanson's life will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Bremerton Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103-7499.

Verona Jones
Verona Magdalena Jones, 89, of Bremerton died July 27, 2002, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Seattle to Harvey S. and Gertrude L. (Gilbronsen) Ludington. She attended Ballard High School.
She married Loren A. Jones Sr. in June 1934 in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Jones had worked as a supply clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at the Naval Supply Center.
She enjoyed arts and crafts and bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Frederick L. Jones and his wife Berniece and Loren A. Jones Jr. and his wife Rosie, all of Bremerton; a brother, Harvey Ludington and his wife, Hazel, of Seattle; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Verona Jones, and by nine siblings.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bremerton Eagles, 205 Sixth St. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, 4800 Sandpoint Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105.

Bea Fabellano
Virginia "Bea" Perez Fabellano, 74, of Bremerton died July 30, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born June 30, 1928, in Sumay, Guam, to Jose and Remedios Perez.
She married Delfin E. Fabellano Sr. on Feb. 5, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Fabellano was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton where she participated in the Young Ladies Institute and the Altar Society. She also enjoyed gardening and dancing.
Survivors include a son, Felix Fabellano of Bremerton; three daughters, Linda Fabellano Sawyers and her husband, Charlie, of Bremerton, Bobbi Fabellano of Port Angeles and Lisa Quintanilla of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Gregorio Aquiningoc of Port Orchard; two sisters, Cecilia Quitugua and Brigida Aquiningoc, both of Bremerton; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Danielle, Bobbi, Eric, Alex, Nicole and Hayley; and a great-grandson, Drew. She was preceded in death by a son, Delfin E. Fabellano Jr., in 1997 and by six siblings, Alejandro, Pedro, Ruth, Gabriel, Joaquin and Dolores.
A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, also at Star of the Sea. Rosaries will continue nightly at 7 p.m. through Wednesday at Mrs. Fabellano's home, 1219 Fifth St. in Bremerton. Interment icon will be in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Kel Robinson
Kelvin "Kel" Robinson, 66, of Bremerton died of progressive lung disease July 23, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1935, in Bremerton to Costello "Shorty" and Nellie (Barrett) Robinson. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1954.
Mr. Robinson served in the California Army Reserve from 1956 to 1958 and in the National Guard from 1955 to 1956 as part of the Poulsbo Tank Unit.
He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 21 years, retiring in 1995. He worked at PSNS as a heavy duty mechanic and an automotive equipment inspector.
He married Joanne Ullock on Jan. 14, 1975.
Mr. Robinson loved his family. He was a member of Eagles 192, American Legion Post 68 and was a Baptist.
He enjoyed collecting H.O. Railroads, raising game birds, poultry and animals and cultivating fish ponds. He was also a master beer brewer.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Karen Ness and her husband, Tom, Kim R. Mercer and his wife, Rachel, and James Robinson, all of Bremerton; Kurt Robinson and his wife, Jan, of Port Orchard; Kelly Patton and her husband, Warren, of Tahuya; John Robinson and his wife, Connie, and LeAnn Rhodes and her husband, Steve, all of Broadus, Mont.; Sherlee Santorno and her husband, Richard, of Ronan, Mont., Dan Stark and his wife, Cheryl, of Thompson Falls, Mont.; Mike Stark and his wife, Dixie, of Darby, Mont., Ladine Duran and her husband. Poppy, of Lakebay; and Billie Jo Albertson and her husband, Rocky, of Everett; a brother, Neil Robinson and his wife, Betty, of Bremerton; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Buffington.
A tribute to Mr. Robinson will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at his home. The event will be a casual outdoor gathering for family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Jack Bergin
Jack A. Bergin, 64, of Bremerton died July 30, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Denver to Edward and Martha (Brown) Bergin. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1956.
He married Rita Livingston on Aug. 1, 1959.
Mr. Bergin served in the Air Force.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jennifer Anderson of Port Ludlow; a brother, Edward L. Bergin of Lacey; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment icon will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
