Tami Westby
Tamara M. "Tami" Westby, 33, of Bremerton died Sept. 20, 2002, after a long struggle with illness at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 24, 1969, in Seattle to Bill and Carol Westby. She graduated from Olympic High School in 1987 and attended Olympic College.
She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Ginger. Other favorite pastimes were needlework, gardening, line dancing and fishing.
Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Teresa Koehler of Riverside, Wash., and Tania Westby of Seattle; and her grandparents, Lillian Westby of Copalis Beach and Bob and Rita Zimmerman of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. A reception follows the service at the family home, 289 NW Bridle Ridge Blvd. in Bremerton.

Cary Cotier
Cary Joe Pierce Cotier, 33, of Bremerton died Sept. 22, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Feb. 26, 1969, in Baraboo, Wis. She graduated from Montello High School in Montello, Wis., in 1987 and from Ripon College in Ripon, Wis., in 1994.
She married
Michael Cotier on June 28, 1997, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Cotier had been a substitute teacher in the Central Kitsap and North Kitsap school districts. She loved marine biology and taught both biology and mathematics.
She enjoyed hand quilting, singing and playing the trombone. She was a member of Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Amelia and Jack Erdman of Blaine; two brothers, Ed Cummins of Dixon, Ill., and Frank Cummins of Delvin, Wis.; and six sisters, Charlotte Roderick and Vicki Cummins, both of Bellingham, Malinda Cummins of Pullman, Bobbi Jacobson of Neshkoro, Wis., Edith Couldart of Albany, Wis., and Patty Braatz of Monroe, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eldon Cummins.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vinland Lutheran Church, 2750 NW Finn Hill Road in Poulsbo.

Julia Kerr
Julia Gladys Kerr, 97, of Bremerton died Sept. 22, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 9, 1904, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to Milo and Mintie (McCready) Hubley. She had been a resident of Kitsap County for the past 62 years.
She married
Charles Kerr on Aug. 22, 1931, in Queen City, Md. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Kerr worked as a telephone operator with a telephone company and as a switchboard operator with a hospital.
She was active in First United Methodist Church in Bremerton. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include three nieces, Mintie J. Bock of Medford, Ore., Joan Dunning of Middletown, N.Y., and Barbara Kuiztz of Wichita, Kan.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 1150 Marine Drive in Bremerton. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Arnold Bruns
Arnold Bruns, 91, of Bremerton died Sept. 19, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born May 28, 1911, in South Dakota to John and Sarah (Schonebloom) Bruns.
He married
Ethel Marion Dixon on Jan. 26, 1935, in Shelton. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. Bruns worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1954 until his retirement in 1975.
He was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and was affiliated with the Presbyterian faith. He enjoyed helping others, spending time with his family, sharing flowers grown in his garden and playing cards.
Survivors include his five children, Helen M. Worland and her husband, John, of Bremerton, Shirley A. Bruns of Seattle, George A. Bruns of Port Orchard, Sarah J. Kelley and her husband, Don, of Westhampton, Mass., and John L. Bruns and his wife, Madelyn, of Bellevue; three sisters-in-law, Sue Bruns, Rose Bruns and Edith Bruns; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service was held Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton.

Ed Swoboda
Edgar "Ed" Allen Swoboda, 79, of Bremerton and formerly of Sequim, died Sept. 20, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., to Frank B. and Eleanor E. (Beranek) Swoboda. He attended school in Omaha, graduating from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1945.
He married
his childhood sweetheart, Norma Rae Jull, on June 8, 1945. They were married
for 57 years.
Mr. Swoboda served as a dental officer in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
In 1958, he and his family moved to Helena, Mont., where he worked as a dental officer with the Veterans Administration at Fort Harrison, Mont. He retired in 1976.
The Swobodas moved to Sequim in 1996. They attended Cornerstone Baptist Temple there.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Mary of Belfair and Gary and Cheri of Portland, Ore.; and two grandsons, Ryan and Tim, both of Portland. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Temple. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Yvonne Nathan
Katherine Yvonne Nathan, 46, of Sunnyslope died Sept. 21, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 22, 1955, in Bremerton to Doctor and Mamie Nathan. She graduated from South Kitsap High School.
She had worked as a teacher's assistant with the Bremerton School District, retiring because of medical disability.
She was a member of the Sunnyslope Community Club, the Westside Improvement Club and Word of Life Fellowship in Bremerton.
She enjoyed gospel music, having participated in several choirs. Other interests were arts and crafts, cooking, cake decorating, knitting, crochet and bingo.
Survivors include two brothers, Tyrone Nathan of Sunnyslope and Donell Nathan and his wife, Marilyn, of Silverdale; a sister, Lena Tolliver of Bremerton; eight nephews; two nieces; five great-nephews; five great-nieces; a godsister, Lanette Brown of Bremerton; and a godson and goddaughter.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church, 4900 Auto Center Blvd. in Bremerton.

Richard Melick
Richard James Melick, 72, of Port Orchard died Sept. 22, 2002, at his home of cancer.
He was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Roy and Mary (Quinn) Melick.
Mr. Melick served in the Navy from 1948 to 1952, achieving the rank of boilerman third class.
He married
Sarah Elizabeth Taylor on Feb. 21, 1953, in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Mr. Melick worked as a stationary engineer with the Department of Defense for 30 years, retiring in 1988. The last 15 years of his career were spent at Fort Lewis.
He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Port Orchard where he served as a deacon. His favorite pastimes were local sports and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bernard Melick and his wife, Diane, of Auburn; two daughters, Zoe Norwood and her husband, Ken, of Port Orchard and Gwynne Godwin and her husband, Sam, of Tonasket; five brothers, Clyde and Paul Melick, both of Waterloo, Harry Melick of Talent, Ore., Gail Melick of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Eugene Melick of Vallejo, Calif.; three sisters, Lorraine Raine of Waterloo, Lucinda Padget of Shellrock, Iowa, and Evelyn Johnson of Walla Walla; and seven grandchildren, Sarah, Sam and Hannah Melick, Adam and Benjamin Norwood, and Courtney and Etta Godwin.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Margaret, Grace and Roy.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at the family home, 9373 Lawrence Drive SE in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Marion Lorenzen
Marion R. Lorenzen, 79, of Port Orchard died Sept. 19, 2002, at her home from pulmonary failure following a severe reaction to arthritis medication.
She was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Irene Spitzer of Edgely, N.D. She was raised by her adoptive parents, Dr. Dickenson Ober and Wilhelmina E. Wheelock of Crow Wing County, Minn.
She attended Washington High School in Brainerd, Minn. She went on to graduate in 1945 from Bremerton Business College.
She married
Elmer Lorenzen in 1953. They divorced in 1975, and Mr. Lorenzen died in 1994.
She had worked as a legal secretary for 48 years with Greenwood, Shiers and Kruse law firm in Port Orchard and as a hostess at Myhre's Terrace Room for several years, retiring in 1988.
Her favorite pastimes were flower gardening, reading, crochet and going to lunch with friends. She was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include a son, James W. Reed of St. Cloud, Minn.; a daughter, Carol Diane Geisler of Port Orchard; a granddaughter, Shelly O'Groske of Byron, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Reed and Ryan O'Groske, both of Byron; a niece, Barbara Beelen of Blaine, Minn.; and a nephew, Danny Orcutt of Maple Grove, Minn. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Williams and Peggy Wheelock.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1901 SE Bielmeier Road in Port Orchard. A reception follows at Marion Lorenzen's home, 11641 Ridge Rim Trail SE in Port Orchard.

Jerry Dolan
Jerry Michael Dolan, 53, of Port Orchard died Sept. 21, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1948, in Bremerton to Paul and Lucille (Bekkevar) Dolan. He graduated from West High School in Bremerton in 1966, from Western Washington University in Bellingham in 1971 and from Gonzaga University Law School in Spokane in 1975.
He married
Arthilyn Genie Howard on May 9, 1975, in Spokane.
Mr. Dolan had been a self-employed attorney, practicing in Port Orchard for 27 years until March. He had served as a municipal court judge in Port Orchard from 1982 to 1992.
He was a member of the Family Law Section of the Washington State Bar and St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Mr. Dolan enjoyed his computer and sports. He was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Dolan of Port Orchard; a daughter, Erin Dolan of Port Orchard; three brothers, Terry Dolan of Bainbridge Island and Patrick and Paul Dolan, both of Bremerton; and two sisters, Luanne Dolan of Bremerton and Lucille Harvey of Port Orchard.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Buck Wynn
Everett R. "Buck" Wynn, 84, of Bremerton died Sept. 17, 2002, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 22, 1917, in St. Louis to Andrew and Ellen F. (Wood) Wynn. He graduated from Ben Blewett High School there in 1936.
He married
Mary Gertrude Edmondsen on March 7, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Mr. Wynn worked in painting/electroplating at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1940 until his retirement as superintendent of Shop 71 in 1980.
He and his wife had traveled to locations throughout the world, including Europe, the Far East and Australia. Mr. Wynn also enjoyed scouting, gardening, salmon fishing, crabbing and clam digging.
He had been an active member of the PSNS Superintendents Association. He was a past member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a current member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, both in Bremerton.
Survivors include two sons, Michael E. Wynn and his wife, Marleen, of Silverdale and Arthur A. Wynn and his wife, Mary, of Bremerton; a daughter, Susan E. Ramsey and her husband, John, of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Greg and Stacy Gillespie, Cindy Crouse, and Eric, Ashley and Jeffery Wynn; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kyra and Chase Gillespie, and Christa and K.D. Crouse. His 13 siblings preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
