Arnold William Banzhaf
Arnold William Banzhaf, 79, of Port Orchard died Sept. 13, 2002, in Tacoma.
He was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Newark, N.J., to Jacob Arnold and Mary Ann (Breen) Banzhaf.
He married Margaret Lorraine Hoehne on Oct. 3, 1948, in Vallejo, Calif. She died in 1988.
Mr. Banzhaf graduated from Central High School in Newark in 1941 and served in the Navy from 1942 to 1975, retiring as senior chief. He received an honorary ribbon for his service in four submarine patrols.
After retirement from the Navy, he worked as a civil service employee at the Trident Refit Facility at Bangor for 12 years.
Mr. Banzhaf was a member of the Elks, Submarine Veterans of World War II and St. Gabriel Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and golfer.
He is survived by two sons, Patrick M. Banzhaf of Federal Way and Scott A. Banzhaf of St. Marys, Ga.; a daughter, Cathy A. Eddinger of Tacoma; and four grandchildren, Michael T. Banzhaf, Matthew P. Banzhaf, Brad A. Eddinger and Breen L. Eddinger.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Harris, and two sisters, Barbara Banzhaf and Veronica Schwartzman.

Diane Frost
Diane J. Frost, 63, of Port Orchard died Sept. 19, 2002, of pancreatic cancer at her home.
She was born in Cleveland to Frank and Dorothy (Bartelheim) Priborsky. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in Brooklyn, Ohio, in 1956 and from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in 1960.
She married Dean R. Frost on June 18, 1960. The Frosts lived in Gig Harbor from 1981 to 1996 when they moved to Port Orchard.
Mrs. Frost had worked with the Department of Defense and with the Social Security Administration. She retired in 2001 after 23 years of government service.
Her favorite pastimes were bridge, reading and skiing. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Frost of Germantown, Md.; a brother, David Priborsky of Las Vegas; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Frost.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Lustgarten Foundation For Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714.

Madeleine Tripp
Madeleine L. Tripp, 70, of Port Orchard died Sept. 18, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Wauchula, Fla. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in Tampa, Fla., in 1949 and later attended a teacher's college in Minot, N.D.
She married Theodore Tripp on Oct. 16, 1949, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. Tripp worked as a personnel manager with the Department of Defense in the Exchange Service for 17 years, retiring in 1981.
After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed trips to Arizona in their "fifth wheeler." Other favorite pastimes were sewing clothes and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ted Tripp of Redding, Calif., and Michael Tripp of Port Orchard; a daughter, Jaqueline Ahmann of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Robert Brown of Denver; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Ed Sarver Jr.
Harry Edward "Ed" Sarver Jr., 73, of Bremerton died Sept. 17, 2002, at Regional Hospital in Seattle following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Nevada, Mo.
He married Mary Bay on Nov. 11, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Sarver served in the Navy for 22 years, from 1948 to 1953 and from 1961 to 1978. He went on to work in the security force at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at the Naval Supply Center in Bremerton for 13 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Sonshine Baptist Church in Bremerton. He enjoyed woodworking and RV travel throughout the United States.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Don Sarver and his wife, Judy, of Mililani, Hawaii; two daughters, Leatha Bellomy and her husband, Rocky, of Belfair and Sue Jarrett and her husband, Ed, of Bremerton; a sister, Nettie Lou Rathbone of Lee's Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Sarver.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Christian Fellowship, 6869 Central Valley Road NW in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Washington, 2625 Third Ave., Seattle, WA 98121 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sharon Rounsville
Sharon Rae Rounsville, 58, of Port Orchard died Sept. 16, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 3, 1944, in Los Angeles to Clifford and Letha (Knowles) Stout.
She married James Rounsville on March 22, 1970, in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Rounsville was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite pastimes were camping and fishing.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Drew Rounsville and his fiancee, Misty Gethers, of Port Orchard and Jack Rounsville and his wife, Stacey, of Bremerton; a daughter, Tami Hillman of Mount Vernon; and four grandchildren, Michael, T.J., Sierra and Sean.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1550 Hoover Ave. SE in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Clark Fork City cemetery in Clark Fork, Idaho.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 557 Roy St., Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109.

Mae Fenske
Mae Liberty Fenske, 83, of Bremerton died Sept. 17, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Farmer, S.D., to Charles and Mary (Montgomery) Sexton. She graduated from Edgerton Consolidated High School there in 1936 and from Greene's Beauty College in Rapid City, S.D.
She married Lloyd Fenske on Oct. 5, 1938, in Rapid City. The couple moved to Bremerton in 1943. Mr. Fenske died in 1994.
While living in Bremerton, Mrs. Fenske worked at the Powder Puff Beauty Salon and the Admiral Beauty Salon, where she later became a co-owner for 20 years. She retired in 1973.
She was a member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association. She won numerous awards and recognition for her hairstyling, cosmetology and "National Beauty Salon Week" window displays.
Her interests were travel, car racing (as a spectator), needlework, fishing, clamming and traveling in an RV.
Survivors include two sons, Dick Fenske of Bremerton and Franchot Fenske of Seattle; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Vendema Sexton, and a brother, Lee Sexton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Frederick Harrington
Frederick E. Harrington, 81, of Silverdale died Sept. 11, 2002, in Bellevue.
He was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Great Falls, Mont., to Frederick E. and Yvonne (Thoreau) Harrington. He attended Power High School in Montana.
He married Barbara Thayer on April 4, 1990, in Bellevue.
Mr. Harrington served in the Navy, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. He later worked as a Realtor.
He was an outdoorsman. He also enjoyed shuffleboard.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Robynn Harrington of Bainbridge Island; a stepson, Brian Hopkins of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Nancy Goree of Seattle; and a brother, John Harrington and his wife, Jennie, of Montana.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
The family of Frederick Harrington will have a celebration of his life at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Walter Redman
Walter Alvin Redman, 74, of Bremerton died Aug. 31, 2002, in Tacoma.
He was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Milbank, S.D., to Lester and Sadie (Tessin) Redman.
He married Marcella Haas on Sept. 22, 1957, in Odessa, Minn.
Mr. Redman served in the Army as a firefighter and blacksmith from 1954 to 1956. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He was later employed as a construction worker from 1967 to 1987, when he retired because of disability.
Mr. Redman was active in his local neighborhood watch program.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Redman of Bremerton, Roger Redman of Texas and Chuck Redman of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Loriann Campbell of Bremerton; two sisters, MaryAnn Low of Renton and Wayva Berkin of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Viola Adams
Former Bremerton resident Viola Mae Adams, 92, of Seattle died Sept. 15, 2002, of pneumonia at Foss Nursing Home in Seattle.
She was born Jan. 14, 1910, in Toledo, Wash., to Bert and Josophine (Brodbeck) Adams. She graduated from Chehalis High School in 1928 and later from a business college in Centralia.
She married Carlton Adams on June 14, 1931. He preceded her in death.
Her main interests were her family and church. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bremerton.
She had been a member of the Children's Hospital Orthopedic Guild. A favorite pastime was playing bridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Bette Jo Stautz of Vancouver, Wash., and Donna Heitzman of Silverthorne, Colo.; five grandchildren, David, Sherill, Andrea, Danette and Darren; and nine great-grandchildren, Sara, Katie, Rachel, Melissa, Lauren, Jamey, Jonah, Kendra and Kelsey.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church of Bremerton, at Ninth and Veneta. Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church of Bremerton, 811 Veneta Ave., Bremerton, WA 98337.

Ellen Culp
Ellen Margit Culp, 90, of Silverdale died Sept. 13, 2002, at her home.
She was born July 2, 1912, in Seattle to Louis R. and Nora (Nielsen) Mathison. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1930.
She married James Ernest Culp on Aug. 27, 1932, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Culp was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and loved animals. She was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include a son, James E. Culp and his wife, Judy, of Gig Harbor; a daughter, Pat Van Densen of Silverdale; and two grandchildren, David Culp and his wife, Emili, of Custer, Wash., and Robin Culp of Gig Harbor.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

Ethel Lynam
Ethel V. Lynam, 83, a lifelong resident of Port Orchard, died Sept. 15, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard after a long illness.
She was born July 10, 1919, in Colby to Theodore and Magdalena (Yendrzak) Lehman, immigrants from Poland who homesteaded on Long Lake. She attended Long Lake Elementary School and graduated from South Kitsap Union High School in 1937.
She married Virgil Lynam in Sparks, Nev., in 1947. He died in 1990.
Mrs. Lynam had worked at Myhre's Restaurant in Port Orchard for 20 years. She started there as a dishwasher, later becoming head cook and manager.
She enjoyed travel, tending to her flowers, walking, reading, swimming, bingo and pinochle. She was a member of the Cooks and Culinary Union and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a son, Michael J. Lynam and his wife, Neita, of Ollala; two daughters, Sandra Giard andher husband, Ron, of Port Orchard and Patricia Lynam-Bolton and her husband, Doug Bolton, of Belfair; six grandchildren, Robin Worland and her husband, Matt, Kim Hopkins and her husband, Mark, and Todd Levenseller and his wife, Wendy, all of Port Orchard, Richard Giard of Bradenton, Fla., Brett Lynam of Bremerton and Evie Lynam of Olalla; nine great-grandchildren, Jayson Quattlebaum of Bremerton, Jackie Quattlebaum of Belfair, Stephen Sharp of Chesapeake, Va., Nathan Levenseller of Olalla, Jessica Giard of Bradenton and Thomas Sharp, Elizabeth and Evan Levenseller and Kayla Krug, all of Port Orchard; and a great-great-grandson, Austyn Quattlebaum of Bremerton.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Alex, Frank, John, Charlie, Al, Fred, Henry and Casper, and by two sisters, Sophie Brandt and Ann Shutt.
At her request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at the home of Sandy and Ron Giard, 4890 Estonia Court
in Port Orchard, at 1 p.m. Sept. 28. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
