Mary Kuhl
Mary Lois G. Kuhl, 86, of Port Orchard died Sept. 8, 2002, at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Charles and Melissa Gard. She graduated from high school in Wichita, Kan., in 1934.
She served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1945, achieving the rank of yeoman second class.
She went on to become a homemaker and mother. She was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Philip Kuhl of Allamuchy, N.J.; a daughter, Janice Gagnon of Fircrest; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Kuhl.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Washington Veterans Home with inurnment in the cemetery there.

Ada Pidduck
Ada D. Pidduck, 78, of Belfair died Aug. 28, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Phoenix to Frank George and Dora (Smith) Bolt.
She married
Thomas I. Pidduck on May 3, 1942, in Olympia.
Mrs. Pidduck was employed for many years as a supervisor with the state of Washington Department of Employment Services.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing golf with the Gold Mountain Ladies Club. She was also a duplicate bridge life master.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Tom Pidduck and his wife, Karen, of Bremerton; a brother, Kerby Bolt of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Ferris Creasy of Little Rock, Ark.; and four grandsons, Tommy, Michael, James and Jon.

Katherine Sharp
Former Port Orchard resident Katherine Daniels Sharp, 45, of Tacoma died Sept. 10, 2002, in Tacoma.
She was born Oct. 15, 1956, in El Paso, Texas, to James and Eunice Sharp. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1974 and from Eastern Washington State College in Cheney in 1979.
She worked as an operations manager with T.J. Maxx for 10 years.
She served as a hospice volunteer. She was also an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Tacoma and in a garden club.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Daniels; a daughter, Erin Daniels; and two brothers, Randy Sharp of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Bob Sharp of Tacoma; and her mother and stepfather, Eunice and Josef Raath; and many extended and adopted family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles Borromeo Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday also at
St. Charles. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaffney Cassedy Allen & Buckley King Funeral Home in Tacoma, (253) 572-6003.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Kathi Daniels Sharp Memorial Fund at any branch of Columbia Bank in care of Ray Daniels.
Janelle Niemietz
Janelle Niemietz, 68, of Poulsbo died Sept. 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 4, 1934, in Globe, Ariz., to Forest and Gladys (York) Ellis. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1952.
She was retired from a career in civil service. She had worked as secretary to the commanding officer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport and as a contracting officer at Naval Submarine Base Bangor.
She loved her children and had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Tiffany.
Survivors include a son, Daniel N. Jensen and his wife, Heidi, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Dana E. Jensen of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Dick Ellis of Alaska; and a granddaughter, Tiffany M. Jensen of Alamosa, Colo. She was preceded in death by brothers Forest "Bud" and John Ellis and by a sister, Sue Wright.
Private family services will be held in Hampton. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Alda Dillon
Alda Pauline Dillon, 98, of Bremerton died Sept. 8, 2002, at Ashley Gardens At Dyes Inlet in Bremerton.
She was born May 22, 1904, in Carroll County, Ind., to Frank E. and Dosha (Perry) Bending. After her father's death, her mother remarried
and lived in Bremerton under the name Leone D. Lingenfelter.
Ada Dillon graduated from New Rockford High School in New Rockford, N.D., in 1924.
She married
Dr. Roll N. Dillon on Feb. 24, 1976, in Las Vegas. A Seattle physician and surgeon for 42 years, Dr. Dillon died in 1983.
Mrs. Dillon worked as a pharmaceutical assistant for more than 30 years, retiring in 1970.
She enjoyed music and traveling with her husband. She was affiliated with the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley L. Peterson of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, L. Janet Karas, in Las Vegas in 1995, and by a brother, Rex S. Perry in Brownsville, Ore., in 1984.
At her request, no services will be held. Inurnment will be with her husband at Acacia cemetery in Seattle. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Bobby Spain
Bobby Lee Spain, 52, of Port Orchard died Sept. 6, 2002, of cancer at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1950, in Seattle to Willard David and Margaret Rose (Seaton) Spain. He earned his GED while serving in the Army and later attended Green River Community College in the mid-1970s.
He married
Sandra Ann Fuller on March 22, 1969, in Auburn.
Mr. Spain served in the Army for more than 2-1/2 years during the Vietnam War as a tank mechanic, achieving the rank of specialist fourth class. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
He went on to work as superintendent of Northwest Castings Steel Foundry in Seattle for
15 years. He and his wife also created and sold holly blue agate jewelry.
Mr. Spain enjoyed lapidary and rock hunting. Other interests were travel, yard work, fishing and spending time with his dogs, Daisy and Ruddy.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Shane Michael Spain of Port Orchard and Travis Lee Spain of Baltimore, Md.; and a stepsister, Susan Braunegal of Westport. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Lloyd Fuller; and his brothers, Gary Spain of Renton and David Spain of Maple Valley.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at Grand Mound cemetery in Grand Mound, Wash.
Iris Scrafford
Iris Ilene Scrafford, 78, of Poulsbo died Sept. 8, 2002, at her home.
She was born to Harold and Treva (Hart) Stuck on Feb. 4, 1924, in Dark County, Ohio. She traveled from Ohio to Seattle with her family when she was 3 years old.
She graduated from West Seattle High School. She married
William G. "Bill" Scrafford on Nov. 9, 1945.
Mrs. Scrafford was a homemaker, gardener and avid bird watcher.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mark of Huntsville, Canada, and Jim and his wife, Kathy, of Poulsbo; two grandsons, Erik and his wife, Amber, and their three children of Poulsbo, and Mike of Bainbridge Island; and a daughter, Nancy Raume Carr of Vashon Island.

Ruth Koch
Ruth Jessamine Hall Koch, 84, of Bremerton died Sept. 10, 2002, from complications of a stroke at Hallmark Manor in Federal Way.
She was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Bovill, Idaho, to Jess and Olive (Pike) Hall. She graduated from Bovill High School, Olympic College and in 1959 from the University of Washington.
She married
Matthew A. Koch on Jan. 23, 1938, in Bovill. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Koch taught in the Bremerton School District at Olympic View and Armin Jahr elementary schools for 24 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton for
60 years, participating in the hand bell choir. She also belonged to Reliance Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, the Estrellita Club, Alpha Delta Kappa Lambda and the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Koch served as a counselor at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Bremerton and as a Girl Scout leader.
She enjoyed being a grandmother. Other interests were art, travel, cooking, sewing, reading and music.
Survivors include a son, Stephen M. Koch and his wife, Debra, of Bellevue; two daughters, Louise Locke and her husband, Jack, of Seattle, and Andrea Lindquist-Sewell and her husband, Lonnie, of Auburn; a sister, Marian Mathews of Lewiston, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Williams of Skykomish; seven grandchildren, Jill and her husband, Eric, Jennifer, Cindy, Lisa and her husband, Lance, Andy and his wife, Tora, Adam and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Kiersten Oliver and Christopher Nelson; and eight nephews, two nieces and five cousins. Two brothers and a sister, Clinton and Jess Hall and Winifred Mann, also preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.

Millie Hammer
Mildred E. "Millie" Hammer, 84, of Port Orchard died Sept. 7, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 3, 1918, in Paulina, Ore., to Rudy and Louise (Brosius) Retzloff. She graduated from Bend High School in Bend, Ore., in 1936.
She married
Archie Hammer. He died in 1969.
Mrs. Hammer worked as a secretary in law offices in Bend and Port Orchard, retiring after more than 30 years.
She was a member of secretarial clubs in Bend. Before moving to Port Orchard 30 years ago, she was a member of the First Methodist Church in Bend where she sang in the choir.
Her interests included league bowling, knitting, crossword puzzles, watching TV in her favorite chair, playing the organ and reading Louis L'Amour paperback books.
Survivors include a son, Aubrey Hammer and his wife, Veta, of Longbranch; and one grandson, Joe Hammer of Port Orchard.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pilot Butte cemetery in Bend. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Dorothy Jorgensen
F. Dorothy Jorgensen, 83, of Indianola died Sept. 7, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Montclair, N.J., to Anders Hjalmer and Elisabeth (Johanson) Johnson. She graduated from high school in Verona, N.J., later completing one year of nursing school in Montclair.
She married
John Jorgensen on Oct. 22, 1938, in Verona. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jorgensen was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking (with lots of gravy), making candles and vegetable gardening.
Survivors include a son, Donald Jorgensen and his wife, Melody, of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Justine Jacobsen and her husband, John, of Indianola and Nancy Niemi and her husband, Duane, of Clovis, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Two sisters also preceded her in death.
A family memorial service will be held in Norway next spring. Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen will be inurned together. Cremation is under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
