Kaye Sterling
Marion Kaye Sterling, 79, of Port Orchard died Sept. 1, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Los Angeles to Mr. and Mrs. G.K. Williams.
She graduated from Sierra Madre High School in California and attended Pasadena Junior College.
She married Larry Sterling in 1957 in Port Orchard.
She wrote cooking stories for the Coronado (Calif.) Journal, the Port Orchard Independent and Country Pleasures newspapers.
Mrs. Sterling enjoyed cooking, traveling, especially Disney trips, Mariners baseball and her grandchildren.
She was a member of Sidney Art Museum.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Rick Wyatt of Port Orchard, Mike Sterling and his wife, Sylvia, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and David Sterling of Tacoma; two daughters, Carolyn Wyatt of Port Orchard and Judith Ann Sterling of San Diego; a brother, Noel "Butch" Wyatt of California; a sister-in-law, Molly Williams of California; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Williams.
There will be a private family service. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Nina Nobriga
Agnes E. "Nina" Nobriga, 80, of Port Orchard died Sept. 3, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Centerof Lou Gehrig's disease.
She was born May 6, 1922, in Paia, Maui, Hawaii, to John and Jane Ornellas.
She studied business at Maui Community College.
She married John Nobriga on June 12, 1948, on Maui. They lived on Maui until 1985.
Her interests included gardening at McCormick Woods, the Republican Women's Club, Mariners baseball and playing the ukelele. She also enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, John Nobriga of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Gary Nobriga of Port Orchard; two daughters, Linda Bradshaw of Port Orchard and Jessica Mansfield of Campbell, Calif.; four brothers, Alvin and Walter Ornellas, both of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, Robert Ornellas of Edmonds and Donald Ornellas of California; a sister, Genny Gouveia of Wailuku; five grandchildren, Catherine Porter, Stephen Dorr, Denise Grapes and Daniel and Darren Nobriga; and five great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Hunter Dorr, Zachary and Johnathan Porter and Taryn Grapes.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at the church. Interment icon will be at Sunset Lane cemetery following the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Percy Henderson
Percy Francis Henderson, 90, of Poulsbo died Aug. 28, 2002, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
He was born Nov. 20, 1911, on Bainbridge Island to Percy Gilbert and Irma Belle (Wright) Henderson.
Mr. Henderson graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1930. He worked as a marine engineer and gardener. In 1977, he retired from the Seattle School District.
He was a charter member of the Eagles on Bainbridge Island and was a member of Seabold Community Club.
Survivors include three sons, David Henderson and his wife, Barbara Allen, of Tucson, Ariz., Percy Henderson and his wife, Marlys, of Seattle and Michael Henderson of Suquamish; a daughter, Susan Henderson Neese and her husband, Steve Norberg, of Port Angeles; three stepchildren, Victoria Farnsworth and her husband, Neil, of Federal Way and Warren Van Pelt and Jerry VanPelt, both of Bremerton; 10 grandchildren, Garrett Neese, Walter, Clare and Eleanor Allen-Henderson, Angela Hamilton, Sheri Ellermeier, Ann Uluilakepa and Wendy, Kristi and Nick Van Pelt; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ariel Stranne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jessie Komedal, Virginia Komedal and Kathleen Kolehmain; and a brother, Wilson (Bill) Henderson.
A memorial service will be at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Seabold cemetery, with a reception to follow at Seabold Church.

Mike Fischer
Former Bremerton resident Mike M. Fischer, 65, of Kirkland died Aug. 28, 2002, of cancer at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland.
He was born July 9, 1937, in Eagle Butte, S.D., to Mike and Barbara (Zahn) Fischer.
He married Jane Fischer.
He graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1955.
He joined the Navy and remained in Bremerton after being stationed there.
Mr. Fischer was a carpenter and worked in real estate.
He was a woodcrafter and created crosses, wooden animals and home furnishings. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Barbara Marshall and her husband of England and Michelle Lynch and her husband of Ellensburg; two brothers, Eugene Fischer of Port Orchard and Antone Fischer of Sedona, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Verne Rott of Bremerton; a sister, Martha Walthall of Bremerton; and three grandchildren, Nicholes, Greta and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Fischer and S.G. "Bud" Fischer, and a sister, Mary Ann Rott.
A rosary will be at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at St. John Vianney, 12600 84th Ave. NE, Kirkland.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, also at St. John Vianney.

Edna Ransier
Edna Sadrad Ransier, 92, of Poulsbo died of natural causes
Aug. 31, 2002 at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born April 1, 1910, in Custer County, Neb., to William and Nancy Hansberry.
Mrs. Ransier attended Mabton (Wash.) High School. She married Bert Ransier, who died in 1958. She was a hairdresser for many years while also raising a family.
Mrs. Ransier enjoyed bowling and bingo and was a Seventh-day Adventist.
Survivors include three sons, Juel Ransier of Colum-bia Falls, Mont., Jack Ransier of Poulsbo and Larry Ransier of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister, Edith Kilmer of Poulsbo; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Herman Hansberry; and a sister, Hattie Skiller.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Desert Lawn Memorial in Kennewick. Arrangements are under the direction of Mueller Funeral Home in Kennewick.
Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association of Puget Sound, 120 Northgate Plaza, Room 316, Seattle, WA 98125.

Becky Beck
Rebecca "Becky" Beck, 81, of Olalla died Sept. 1, 2002, at Cottesmore of Life Care in Gig Harbor.
She was born March 24, 1921, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Wilhelm and Clara (Reimann) Otte.
She married Karl Jacob Beck on Oct. 28, 1944, in Spokane. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1938. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and graduated from Bethesda Hospital Nursing School in St. Paul, Minn.
Mrs. Beck worked as a nurse until her children were born and then worked as a homemaker and mother.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and church activities. She was a member of Spirit of Life Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Mrs. Beck is survived by two sons, William Beck and his wife, Mary Ann, of Ridgefield, Wash., and Charles Beck and his wife, Carol, of Petersburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Karla Olson and her husband, David, of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Alicia Wells and her husband, Larry, of Olalla; a sister, Ludvina Dietz and her husband, Cliff, of Eunice, N.M.; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. Interment icon will be at Fraola cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Vernon Barrett
Vernon L. Barrett, 90, of Kingston died Aug. 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 25, 1912, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Willis Nelson and Minta (Ackerson) Barrett.
He established a ranch and worked on the railroad in Montana before coming to Kitsap County in 1952.
For many years, he worked in carpentry, retiring from Highline School District in 1972.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Evelyne of Brinnon; a son, James E. Barrett and his wife, Jill, of Kingston; a sister, Violet Burnam of Boise, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Denise Quesnell and her husband, Rick, of Kingston and York Barrett and his wife, Soon, of Poulsbo.
A graveside service will be at noon Friday at Kingston cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Sherri Adams
Sherri D. Adams, 36, of Bremerton died Aug. 30, 2002, in Las Vegas.
She was born Dec. 23, 1965, in Orange County, Calif., to Edgar Adams and Eleanor Reynen (Goytia).
She enjoyed barbecuing, going to the lake and being with family and friends.
Survivors include her parents, Eleanor and stepfather, Warren Reynen of Bremerton; a son, Mathew Adams of Bremerton; a daughter, Alejandra Adams of Bremerton; a brother, Jerry Adams of Port Orchard; and a sister, Terri Adams of Bremerton.
There will be a private memorial service.

Earl Papenfus
Earl Emil Papenfus, 92, of the Washington State Veterans Home in Retsil died Aug. 28, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1910, in Eugene, Ore.
Mr. Papenfus was in the Army from 1942 to 1945, leaving with the rank of staff sergeant. He won the Philippines Liberation medal with Bronze Star, World War II Victory medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was a master craftsman in log cabin construction.
His interests included ecology and world affairs. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Rosalie Shepard of Pilot Hill, Calif.; a son, Steven Papenfus of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three daughters, Susan Pratt of Gig Harbor, Sally Nicholes of St. George, Utah, and Sharleen Allred of Livermore, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home in Bremerton.

William Henry Miles
William Henry Miles, 92, of Tracyton died Aug. 28, 2002, at Harrison Hospital of pneumonia with cancer complications.
He was born June 15, 1910, in Patterson, N.J., to Charles and Nellie (Stephens) Miles.
He graduated from high school in Auburn, N.Y., in 1928. He later attended Columbia University in New York and graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1951.
He married the former Jane Wilkinson Nov. 28, 1936, in Sea Cliff, N.Y. They moved to Tracyton in 1942.
Mr. Miles worked at Brooklyn Naval Shipyard in New York, then transferred to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He worked there for many years, becoming supervisor of research and test laboratories before retiring in 1969.
He won several awards and patents on production processes, including early development of fiberglass molded boats, magnetic heating and adhesives and stress analysis. He held a state license to practice mechanical engineering, and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Mr. Miles and his wife were among the founders of the Olympic College Foundation, donating their home to help start an endowment fund.
Mr. Miles enjoyed sailing his 30-foot sloop Miles Aweigh. He was active in Boy Scouts and served as president of the Tracyton Community Club.
Mr. Miles is survived by his wife; a son, Douglas Miles of Ellensburg; and a daughter, Ingrid Ravin (formerly Candice Miles) of Lockport, Calif.
A memorial service will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 21. For information, call (360) 479-4502.
