Louise Schwartz
Louise Schwartz, 78, of Silverdale died of cancer Oct. 6, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1923, to Ollie B. and Helen (Jensen) Riggs and lived in Santa Monica, Calif., before moving to Bremerton. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1941.
She worked as a telephone operator. She was a switchboard operator for Adm. Chester Nimitz in Pearl Harbor in 1942.
She married
Bremertonian Dean R. Tyler in Honolulu. They had two daughters and later were divorced.
She returned to Bremerton, where she married
Charles R. Schwartz in 1952. They had two daughters and a son and moved to Guam in 1966.
Mrs. Schwartz worked at the ship-repair facility in Guam, and later, upon their return to the United States, worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
While in Guam, she was active in volunteer work and became an avid golfer.
Survivors include her husband; five children, Jeanne Owen of Florence, Ore., Joanie O'Neal and her husband, Loyd, of Grants Pass, Ore., Helen Schwartz and Susan Chaussee and her husband, Steve, all of Bremerton, and Dick Schwartz of Key Peninsula; a brother, Jack Riggs and his wife, Muriel; nine grandchildren, Roger, Alison, Lisa, Karl, Daniel, Randy, Brian, Laura and Erin; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Rochelle and David; a niece, Charlotte Pedersen and her husband, Ben, of Bremerton; a grandniece and grandnephew, Anna and Eric; and numerous cousins in California.
At her request, there will be no services. Her family will scatter her ashes during a boat trip.

Dorothy Amos
Dorothy Ann (Rohwein) Amos, 61, of Bremerton died Oct. 6, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1941, in Stayton, Ore., to George P. and Katherine Ann (Herbach) Rohwein. She graduated from Adak High School in Adak, Alaska, in 1969.
She married
Michael D. Amos on June 22, 1990, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Amos worked as a hairdresser for 12 years.
She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Forrest G. Gross Jr. and his wife, Anita, of Connecticut and Rodney D. Gross of Silverdale; three daughters, Michele L. Fletcher and her husband, Kenneth, and Michelle Y. Jogerst and her husband, Matt, all of Bremerton, and Maria T. Stephens and her husband, Richard, of Texas; her former daughter-in-law, Julie Gross of Bremerton; three brothers, Theodore Rohwein and his wife, Sandra, Raymond Rohwein and his wife, Darleen, and Charles Rohwein, all of Bremerton; four sisters, Christine Bojarski and her husband, Chuck, of Olympia, Mary Smith and her husband, Tom, of Bremerton, Shirley Ehlinger and her husband, Ken, of Iowa, and Rosemarie Johnston and her husband, Mike, of Alaska; and 13 grandchildren, Caitlin, Taylour, Kristen, Brady, Emily, Rebecka, Erin, David, Sarrah, John, Robert, Melanie and Ripley.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. A graveside service follows at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Joel Ha-lo Wind Baker
Joel Ha-lo Wind Baker, the 3-day-old son of Scott and Lucy (Lino) Baker of Poulsbo, died Oct. 7, 2002, in Tacoma.
He is survived by his parents and a brother, Julian D. Baker; and his grandparents, Lil Baker of Poulsbo, Dave Baker of Carmel Valley, Calif., and Manuel and Maura Lino of Turlock, Calif.
Visitation will be from
10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. A graveside service follows at 2 p.m. Friday in Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Carol Ann Boyes
Carol Ann Boyes, 56, of Longview died Oct. 7, 2002, at her home of heart disease. She had been a resident of the Port Orchard/Olalla area.
She was born May 21, 1946, in Bremerton to Dallis and Clara (Meinert) Stewart. She graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview in 1964 and attended Foothills Junior College in Los Altos, Calif.
She married
Roger Boyes on Sept. 11, 1965, in Mountain View, Calif.
Mrs. Boyes was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Longview. She enjoyed tole painting and home/interior design.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mathew Boyes of Port Orchard; two daughters, Kristin (Boyes) Muhleman of Bremerton and Kathleen "Nicki" (Boyes) Gorski of Bothell; a brother, Robert Stewart of Ocean Park; and a sister, Betty Spicer of Roanoke, Va.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Longview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Longview Memorial Park Funeral Home and cemetery.

Erma Brooks
Erma Catheryne Brooks, 85, of Bremerton died Oct. 7, 2002, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born July 7, 1917, in Walterville, Ore., to Frederick and Katie (Hartwig) Easton.
She married
John Milton Brooks on Dec. 2, 1944, in Kitsap County. He died in 1968.
Mrs. Brooks worked as a secretary with Getschmann Insurance in Bremerton and in the comptroller department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She retired in 1977.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Other favorite pastimes were gardening, needlework and homemaking.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Robert Brooks and his wife, Rose, of Gig Harbor, and Frederick Louis Brooks and his wife, Nancy, of Port Orchard; a daughter, Erma May Adams and her partner, Fred, of Shelton; six grandchildren, Thomas Robert Brooks, Brian James Brooks, Helen Elaine Miller, John Brent Adams, Katherine Ann Brooks and Eric Louis Brooks; and one great-granddaughter, Anne Valarie Adams.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Kathleen Miller, and by brothers and sisters, Veola Rasmussen and Nellie, Marvin and Ivan Easton.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.

Loren Beller
Loren Dennis Beller, 56, of Bremerton died Oct. 7, 2002, at his home after a long
battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 8, 1945, in Spokane to Iris and Bob Beller. He graduated from West High School in Bremerton in 1963.
He married
Carol Beller on Oct. 3, 1967, in Bremerton.
Mr. Beller served in the Army from 1964 to 1968 with the 82nd Airborne Division, achieving the rank of sergeant. He went on to work as a deputy sheriff in Washington and with handicapped adults in Bremerton.
He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Brenda Salt and Lorie Clayton, both of Bremerton, and Deni Crawley of North Carolina; two brothers, Bob Beller of Shelton and Jim Epperson of Allyn; two sisters, Connie Goff of Seattle and Dianna Rich of Allyn; eight grandchildren, Lataye, Loren, Lance, Travis, Josh, Alyssa, Jordan and Aiden; and longtime friends, Nancy Allen, Butch Dennis, and Peggy, DeWayne and Shyree Ward.
Private services will be held.
Ronald Patten
Former Bremerton resident Ronald L. Patten, 73, of Sun City, Calif., died Oct. 7, 2002, at the Sun City Convalescent Center.
He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Tacoma. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1946.
He married
Jann Murphy on Feb. 7, 1951, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton. They were later divorced.
Mr. Patten served as vice president of Peoples National Bank of Bremerton for 18 years.
He retired and moved to Palm Springs. For the last eight years, he lived in Sun City.
Survivors include three daughters, Patti Martin of Murietta, Calif., Kathryn Westin of Bellevue and Cindi Sarchet of Bremerton; four grandchildren, Christopher, Marcy, Stephanie and Jason; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Justin and Dakota.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Henry Ryen
Henry Thomas Ryen, 85, of Poulsbo died Oct. 6, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Finley, N.D., to Carl and Ericka (Hanson) Ryen. He attended school in Alamo, N.D.
He married
Rose Biberdorf on Sept. 7, 1952, at Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Willow City, N.D.
Mr. Ryen farmed in North Dakota for many years. He later worked as a custodian at Poulsbo Elementary School, retiring in 1981 and working another 11 years as the custodian for Poulsbo First Lutheran Church.
Mr. Ryen was a member of the Sons of Norway. He was a lifetime member of Poulsbo First Lutheran Church, serving the church in many capacities.
A guitar and fiddle player, he performed locally with the Old Time Fiddlers. He was an avid Mariners fan and also enjoyed John Deere tractors, Warner Brothers cartoons (especially Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner), and repairing clocks and watches.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Connie Miser and her husband, Dave, of Hoodsport, and Colleen Kernan and her husband, Mark, of Kodiak, Alaska; a brother, Ralph Ryen of Spokane; a sister, Esther Hodges of Albany, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Erika, Jenny, and Katie Miser, and Kimberly, Becky and Tyler Kernan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Tornensis, Sept. 29, 2002.
A combined memorial service for Henry Ryen and Martha Tornensis will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at Poulsbo First Lutheran Church, 18920 Fourth Ave. NE. Also Oct. 16, an inurnment service precedes the memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

Claude Campbell Jr.
Claude Merle Campbell Jr., 75, of Bremerton died Oct. 3, 2002, in Reno, Nev., of an aneurysm.
He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Livingston, Mont., to Claude Merle Campbell Sr. and Lorena (LaDuke-Gibson) Campbell. He graduated from Montana School of the Deaf in Great Falls, Mont.
Mr. Campbell was retired from a career as a composer/typesetter with both The Sun and The Seattle Times. He had previously worked for The Park County News in Livingston, Mont., and The Great Falls Tribune.
He was a member of the Tacoma Senior Deaf Club, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Typographical Union and the Communication Workers of America. His favorite pastimes were golf and bowling.
Survivors include a brother, Dale Gibson and his wife, Kathy, of Shoshoni, Wyo.; and a sister, JoAnn Campbell of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

June Barber
June Doreen Barber, 79, of Poulsbo died Oct. 4, 2002, in Poulsbo.
She was born June 30, 1923, in Spearfish, S.D., to Ross and Frances (Palmer) Saunders. She attended St. Edward High School in St. Edward, Neb.
She married
Eldon Barber. He died in 1976.
Mrs. Barber was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Barber and his wife, JoAnn, of Poulsbo and Richard Barber and his wife, Mary, of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Darrin Barber, Karen Manhart and her husband, Larry, Jason Edelblute and his wife, Christine, Richard Eldon Barber and Michael Angel Barber; and three great-grandchildren, Annelise and Sarah Manhart, and Elizabeth G. Edelblute.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bremerton Church of the Nazarene, 924 Sheridan Road in East Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Louise Warner
Louise M. Warner, 87, of Port Orchard died Oct. 5, 2002, at the Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1915, in Port Orchard to James and Pearl (Cooper) Stout. She attended schools in Bremerton.
She married
Verlan Osburn on Jan. 29, 1938, in Entiat. He died in 1966.
She married
Jack Warner on May 8, 1971, in Idaho. He died in 2000.
Mrs. Warner worked as the financial secretary at the First Methodist Church in Wenatchee for 17 years, retiring in 1971.
She loved to write, especially poetry. She also enjoyed reading and working in her yard.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. McKenna and his wife, Elvia, of Belfair; a daughter, DeLee Greene of Port Orchard; four grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
