Frank Giberson
Longtime Bremerton resident Frank Howard Giberson, 90, of Concord, Calif., died Dec. 4, 2002, of respiratory arrest at the Bayberry Health Care Center in Concord.
He was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Montesano to Wendell Joseph and Josephine May (Ebert) Giberson. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1931.
He married
Mildred Marcusen. She died in 1997.
Mr. Giberson served in the Navy from 1934 to 1938. He went on to work as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1972.
He lived in Bremerton for 50 years. He had been a resident of Concord for the past 10 years.
Mr. Giberson was a member of the Elks in Bremerton, the Sons of Norway and the Eagles.
Survivors include one son, Dale L. Giberson of Lafayette, Calif.; two daughters, Joyce Sartain of Marietta, Ga., and Elaine Gabellini of Martinez, Calif.; two brothers, Allen Giberson of Montesano and Ebert Giberson of Lake Tapps; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements in California are under the direction of Bryant & Moore Chapel, 1385 Galindo St., Concord, CA 94520, (925) 682-1100.

Patricia Rodgers
Patricia Vera Rodgers, 72, of Bremerton died Dec. 2, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Raymond to Roy and Daisy (Cowan) Smith. She attended Bremerton High School.
She married
Ronald Rodgers on Jan. 24, 1948, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Rodgers was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to sew and care for her husband and family.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronald Rodgers Jr. and his wife, Joy, of Athens, Ohio, and Larry Rodgers and his wife, Cheryl, of Bremerton; two daughters, Michele Starkey and her husband, Jim, of Lakeside, Colo., and Lori Wagner and her husband, Jim, of Poulsbo; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Ruckman, and by sisters Lucille Brock and Willow Laird.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the home of Larry Rodgers, 6815 Provost Road in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo and inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Burl Stotts
Former Bremerton resident Burl W. Stotts, 55, of Spanaway died of cancer Nov. 30, 2002, at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma.
He was born Aug. 24, 1947, in Bremerton to Buel and Minnie (Monger) Stotts. He graduated from East High School in Bremerton in 1965.
He married
Lai Ha Chong on July 28, 1969, in Hong Kong.
Mr. Stotts served in the Air Force from 1965 to 1989, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He went on to work in construction and carpentry.
Mr. Stotts enjoyed rebuilding antique cars.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Burl Stotts Jr. of Spanaway; two daughters, Vicki Gummeson of Yelm and Yvonne Stotts of Las Vegas; one brother, Donald Stotts of Seabeck; one sister, Kathy Stotts Spragg of Fresno, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Forrest and Tyler, all of Yelm.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton.
Michael Mayo
Michael Dennis Mayo, 49, of Bremerton died Dec. 3, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1953, in Washington, D.C., to Reid Dennis Mayo and Margaret (Blok) Mayo. He graduated from Crossland High School in Camp Springs, Md., in 1971.
He married
Theresa Maye Wright on Dec. 29, 1979, in Bremerton.
Mr. Mayo served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1978, achieving the rank of airman first class. He later worked as a cook at the Sportsman Restaurant in Bremerton.
He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the Mariners, Huskies, Seahawks and Washington Redskins. He also collected classic model cars.
Mr. Mayo was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bremerton. He often prepared and served food for church events.
Survivors include his wife; and one sister, Kathleen Louise May of Fairfax, Va. His parents preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 811 Veneta Ave. in Bremerton. Mr. Mayo's ashes will be scattered over the waters off Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton.

Nancy Brideau
Nancy Brideau, 38, of Port Orchard died Nov. 19, 2002, of chronic heart problems at Harrison Hospital.
She and her children moved to the Olalla area about eight years ago from Massachusetts. Later, they relocated in Port Orchard.
She had worked at Kmart, Jack-in-the-Box, and as a nurse's assistant at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard. Due to illness, she had become a homemaker.
She enjoyed country music, writing, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends.
Her survivors include a son, Daniel Dufrane of Port Orchard; two daughters, Nina and Katrina, both of Port Orchard; her mother, of California; and her father and stepmother, of Massachusetts.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at A New Beginning Family Christian Center at Wildwood and Sidney Avenue in Port Orchard, phone (360) 874-8404. Inurnment will take place in Massachusetts.
Diana Van Meter-Dean
Diana Lee Van Meter-Dean, 55, of Belfair died Nov. 30, 2002, of heart failure in Belfair.
She was born Jan. 18, 1947, in Belfair to George and Myrtle (Culbertson) McKeown. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1965.
She married
Jack E. Dean in Reno, Nev., in 1996.
She had worked for 15 years at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport (receiving numerous service awards) and, previously, as a supervisor with Imperial Manufacturing near the Bremerton National Airport for 14 years.
At the time of her death, she was employed part-time as a clerk at the Washington state liquor store in East Bremerton. She had been honored by the state for her work as a clerk there.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved dancing and music.
Her survivors include her husband; her mother, Myrtle McElhaney of Belfair; five stepsons, James C. Van Meter of Tacoma, Joey Dean of Bremerton, and Jacques, Chad and Jonah Dean, all of Port Orchard; a step-daughter, Jamie Counts of Yakima; a brother, Larry McElhaney of Belfair; two sisters, Laura McElhaney of Belfair and Cindy Scott of Kent; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the North Mason Eagles in Belfair. Interment
will be in the "Love Section" of Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Jim Matala
James F. "Jim" Matala, 62, of Bremerton died Nov. 28, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Eynon, Pa., to Anthony and Cecelia (Chervinak) Matala. He graduated from the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa., in 1962.
He married
Kathryn Breuner on June 25, 1966, in Cupertino, Calif.
Mr. Matala had worked as an electrical engineer with General Electric for 30 years.
He was a devoted husband and father. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping and baseball, especially the Mariners.
His survivors include his wife; his parents; two sons, Chris Matala of Gig Harbor and Andrew Matala of Juneau, Alaska; two daughters, Kathryn Matala of
Spokane and Andrea Adler of Kelso; a brother, Anthony Matala of Harrisburg, Pa.; a sister, Patricia Matala of Eynon, Pa; and three grandchildren, Kylee and Alec Matala and Zachary Adler.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Norma Randall
Norma Evelyn Randall, 77, of Bremerton died Dec. 3, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Tenstrike, Minn., to Norman and Nora (Shute) Johnson. She graduated from Blackduck High School in Blackduck, Minn., in 1943.
She married
James Randall on April 19, 1947, in Bemidji, Minn. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Mr. and Mrs. Randall grew up in Tenstrike. In 1952, they moved to Bremerton, where Mr. Randall worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
The couple returned to Tenstrike in 1975. Mrs. Randall had lived in Bremerton again since the late 1990s.
She had been a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and jigsaw puzzles. She also was an avid collector with a particular interest in Beanie Babies, stamps and Barbie dolls.
Mrs. Randall was affiliated with the Lutheran faith. While living in Tenstrike, she had been a member of the Tenstrike Community Church.
Her survivors include three sons, Marvin Randall of Bremerton, Clinton Randall of Tenstrike and Kelly Randall of St. Paul, Minn.; five daughters, Elaine Baldauf of Port Orchard, Marlene Barnum and Tina Baldschun, both of Seabeck, Sandra Barnum of Silverdale and Diane Randall of Blackduck; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Johnson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. A funeral service will be held at a later date at Tenstrike Community Church. Arrangements in Minnesota are under the direction of Snustad's Funeral Home in Blackduck, phone (218) 835-4444.

Earl Ferguson
Ernest "Earl" Ferguson, 86, of Bremerton died Dec. 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to James and Violet (Hodson) Ferguson. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1934.
He married
Bernice Paulson on Sept. 17, 1938, in Seattle.
Mr. Ferguson had served in the Coast Guard Reserve during World War II. He went on to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring as an inventory management specialist in 1972.
He was a member of Franklin Lodge 5 in Port Gamble and the Scottish Rite in Bremerton. He was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
His survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Ferguson and his wife, Lois, of Moses Lake; a daughter, Carolyn Neal and her husband, Tony, of Bremerton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation.
Leona Hanson
Leona P. Hanson, 80, of Port Orchard and formerly of Sultan, died Nov. 28, 2002, in Port Orchard.
She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Marysville to Benard and Olena (Stormo) Thompson. She graduated from Lake Stevens (Wash.) High School.
She married
Harold E. Hanson on July 11, 1947, in Marysville. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Bill Hanson of Olympia; two daughters, Kathy Coon and Mary Feather, both of Port Orchard; a sister, Evelyn Kirkland of Spokane; five
grandchildren, Shane Hanson, Ben Coon, Jody Enriquez, Heather Day and Krystal Feather; and one great-grandson, Jacob Coon. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Amil, Burton and Howard Thompson.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
