Alma Clifford
Alma Clifford, 79, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Nov. 5, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Butte, Mont., to David and Dominica Zoret. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1941.
She married Bruce Clifford on June 30, 1944, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Clifford worked as a telephone operator for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
Her favorite pastimes were cooking and painting.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dave Clifford of Snoqualmie; one daughter, Almarie Clifford of Torrance, Calif.; a brother, George Zoret of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Sublett of Yakima and Emma Cardinal of Bellingham; and one grandchild.
A celebration of life and reception will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton.

Kermit Hillis
Kermit E. Hillis, 91, of Port Orchard died Nov. 2, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Leesville, Ohio, to James and Elizabeth (Karr) Hillis.
Mr. Hillis worked as a heavy-equipment operator in Portage County, Ohio. He retired in 1972.
He was a model train collector. He also enjoyed raising birds of all kinds.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda (Kibler) Long Hillis; eight sons, Paul Hillis of Texas, Blaine Hillis of Washington and Lyle, Wade, Ray, Stanley, Keith and Donnie Hillis, all of Ohio; a daughter, Joyce Head of Ohio; a brother, Chester Hillis of California; two sisters, Alberta and Carol, both of Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Wyatt Hillis, in 2000.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Judith Blair
Judith Anne Blair, 62, of Seattle died Nov. 1, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Seattle to Richard and Marjorie (Bell) Blair. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1958 and attended Olympic College and Washington State University in Pullman.
She worked as an assistant librarian at the University of Washington for 40 years.
She served as secretary-treasurer of the Wayfarer Cooperative in Seattle's University District.
Survivors include her mother, now of Bremerton; and a cousin, William C. Bell of Port Orchard. She was preceded in death by her father.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, 4800 Sandpoint Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105.

Alicia Jacobs
Alicia Ann (Sobiecki) Jacobs, 58, of Poulsbo of cancer died Nov. 3, 2002, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Sept. 6, 1944, in Detroit to John J. and Stephanie H. (Muter) Sobiecki. She graduated from Cooley High School there in 1962.
She married Alvin Lee Jacobs on May 15, 1971, in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Jacobs was a homemaker. She had worked as a data entry clerk for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed ceramics, arts and crafts, fishing, camping, gardening and cooking. She was affiliated with the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael A. Jacobs of Kingston; two daughters, Shawn M. Tyson of Kingston and Michelle R. Berg of Warren, Ore.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Saracson.
A memorial service will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the family home.

Dale Tankersley
Dale G. Tankersley, 87, of Port Orchard died Nov. 3, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
He was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Moweaque, Ill., to William and Matilda (Suppes) Tankersley.
He married Cecelia E. Price on Oct. 22, 1947, in Geneseo, Ill.
Mr. Tankersley served in the Army during World War II in Burma, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He went on to work in data processing with General Motors for 24 years, retiring in 1980.
He was affiliated with the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Tankersley of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Sharon Kay of Port Orchard; a grandson, David Tankersley; and two great-grandchildren, Carl and Joshua Tankersley.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
A memorial service was held Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Jack Peters
Jack Rolland Peters, 83, of Indianola died from complications of pneumonia Nov. 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 27, 1919, in Spokane to Rolland and Helen (Noble) Peters. He graduated from Langley High School on Whidbey Island in 1936.
He married Joanne Bakken on Aug. 25, 1954, in Seattle. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Peters served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946, achieving the rank of captain. He was a communications officer in India during World War II.
He later worked in mortgage and escrow. He retired in 1982.
Mr. Peters enjoyed watching Husky football and the Mariners.
Survivors include two sons, Tylan Peters of Portland, Ore., and Todd Peters of Issaquah; four daughters, Tere Childs of Des Moines, Wash., Sharon Shinabarger of Enumclaw, Cecily Gilbert of Woodinville and Gena Wales of Bremerton; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Gena, 2012 Enetai Beach Drive in Bremerton.

Emma Wegner
Emma S. Wegner, 86, of Poulsbo died of cancer Nov. 2, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Worden, Mont., to John Frederick and Mary Catherine Stricker. She attended schools in and around Billings, Mont.
She married Earl G. Wegner on June 25, 1938, in Billings.
Mrs. Wegner was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was a member of Oslo Lodge 235 Sons of Norway in Poulsbo and Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Garry Wegner and his wife, Susan, of Lynnwood; one daughter, Rebecca Wheeler and her husband, Bob, of Bremerton; one sister, Esther Smith of Arizona; three grandchildren, Gretchen Cook of Edmonds, Allison Wegner of Seattle and Aaron Wheeler of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and one great-grandson, Matthew Cook. She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, 1234 NE Riddell Road in Bremerton.

Myra Hunter
Myra Hunter, 58, of Bremerton died Nov. 1, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 10, 1944, in Glasgow, Scotland, to John and Peggy (Scott) Hunter. She attended Bellevue Community College.
She participated in the East Side Literacy Program. She also enjoyed Native American crafts.
Survivors include one son, David Anthony Gomez of Glendora, Calif.; three daughters, Misty Stell, Tammie Johnson and Ann Gomez, all of Bremerton; two brothers, Eric Hunter of Bremerton and Frank Hunter of Vancouver, British Columbia; a sister, Joan Marie Webb of Roslyn; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton, followed by a memorial service also at Miller-Woodlawn.

Frank Grayburn
Frank Florus Grayburn, 98, of Poulsbo died Oct. 21, 2002, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
He was born March 23, 1904, in Pittsburgh, to John Edward and Mary Catherine (Craig) Grayburn. He graduated from Schenley High School in Pittsburgh in 1923.
Mr. Grayburn also attended Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. He went on to receive certificates in industrial electricity and electric power and control from Pennsylvania State College Extension School in Pittsburgh.
He married Viola M. Hoops in Pittsburgh. She preceded him in death in 1980.
Mr. Grayburn worked in the glass engineering department of PPG Industries Inc. in Pittsburgh for 28 years, retiring in 1969. Previously, he had worked as a draftsman in the Pittsburgh area.
Mr. Grayburn was a Mason of the R.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in the Valley of Pittsburgh. His favorite pastimes were bowling, calligraphy and drawing.
Survivors include a daughter, Mathilda C. Grayburn of Poulsbo; five grandchildren, Barbara, Richard, Jim, Jeff and Tracy; seven great-grandchildren, Patricia, Vickey, Robin, Bill, Eric, Richard and Russell; and eight great-great-grandchildren, Everett, Nakita, Sara, Michael, Stephen, Michael, Shannon and Joseph.
A memorial service will be at noon Friday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Interment icon will be at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Martha & Mary Health Services, P.O. Box 127, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

Rose Boyle
Rose E. Boyle, 95, of Bremerton died Nov. 1, 2002, of heart failure at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
She was born March 15, 1907, in Deep River to Matt and Anna (Peikkola) Hakala. She attended Salmon Creek School in Salmon Creek.
She married Ernest A. Boyle on Aug. 21, 1929, in Astoria, Ore. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Boyle was a homemaker. She worked as a nurse's aide at Colombia Hospital in Astoria for eight years.
She lived in Kirkland for 35 years and was a member of the Military Widows Association there. She moved to Bremerton six months ago to live with her son.
Mrs. Boyle loved to visit her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, animals and birds.
For many years, she owned poodles and cats. At the time of her death, she enjoyed the company of her current pet, Happy Cat.
Her survivors include a son, Edward H. Boyle and his wife, Sandy, of Bremerton; a daughter, Shirley C. Gomes and her husband, Russell, of Old Lyme, Conn.; six grandchildren, Eddie Boyle and Laurie L. Froggatt, both of Bremerton, Kevin Boyle of Tahuya, David Boyle of Seabeck, Patricia Smith of Cooper City, Fla., and Russell Gomes Jr. of Old Lyme; and seven great-grandchildren, Erika and Jessica Froggatt, both of Bremerton, Kyle and Holly Boyle, both of Tahuya, Jacob Mahaffay of Seabeck, and Jennifer and Douglas Smith, both of Cooper City.
She was preceded in death by siblings John, Charlie, Henry, Albert and Hugo, all of Deep River, Bill of Aberdeen, Lyyli Hakala of Deep River, and Tillie and Pearl, both of Astoria.
A private graveside service will be held today in Salmon Creek. Memorial donations may be made to the PAWS organization of the donor's choice.

John Ryan
John Newman Ryan, 82, of Port Orchard died Oct. 28, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
He was born March 27, 1920, in Newark, N.J., to John and Mildred (McQuavy) Ryan. He attended Sedro Woolley High School.
Mr. Ryan owned and operated a Standard Oil service station in El Cajon, Calif., and also repaired travel trailers while living in California. He retired in the late 1970s.
He was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles. His favorite pastime was flying.
Survivors include a son, John N. Ryan Jr. of Seattle; two daughters, Sharon A. Ryan of Seattle and Shirlee Toman of Auburn; a sister, Patricia Stone of Port Orchard; three grandchildren, William, Robert and Michael Toman; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103.
