Arden Schwan
Arden "Joe" Schwan, 86, of Poulsbo died Jan. 14, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 24, 1912, in Sheridan, Wyo., to George and Frances (Colson) Schwan.
Mr. Schwan served in the Navy from 1930 to 1936. He came to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1941 as a journeyman machinist and retired as a foreman machinist in 1969.
He was a life member and multiple past master of Franklin Masonic Lodge 5 of Port Gamble; a life member of the Scottish Rite Bodies; a life member of the Order of Amaranth, Agate and Bremerton Courts; Afifi Shrine of Tacoma; and a charter member of the Viking Shrine Club of Poulsbo.
Survivors include a son, Joe of Indianola; a daughter, Patricia Lundstrom of Kingston; three brothers, John and Henry, both of Amarillo, Texas, and Sam of Covina, Calif.; three grandchildren, Brandy Tracy and Ivy Ann Schwan, both of Kingston, and Tenille Olsen of Indianola; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Helen Irene Schwan, in 1976. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Dorothy Lenz in 1995.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove, with a private inurement at Eglon cemetery.

Faye Sherrill
Faye Beatrice Sherrill, 80, of Bremerton died Jan. 16, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
She was born June 30, 1918, in Little Rock, Ark.
Mrs. Sherrill worked for housekeeping/environmental services at Harrison Hospital from 1972 until her retirement in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Warren and Paul, both of Bremerton; a sister, Dorothy Rothenberg of Keyport; and eight grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Theresia Bussey
Theresia M. Bussey, 66, a longtime Port Orchard resident, died following a lengthy illness Jan. 16. 1999, in Vinita, Okla.
She was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Bordulac, N.D., to Theodore and Gladys Zink.
On Aug. 1, 1952, she married
Darrell O. Bussey.
She worked as an electronics technician for the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport, retiring in October 1988.
She won both the Washington Barrel Racing Association and the Northwest Rodeo Association barrel racing championships in 1975. Throughout her riding years, she won five championship saddles and one horse trailer.
In Vinita, she was active in the Cowboy Junction Church.
She is survived by her husband; her mother; two brothers, Ted Zink of Port Orchard and Doug Zink of Bremerton; a sister, Gloria Zink of Port Orchard; four daughters, Sharon Torricellas of Eugene, Ore., Lily Bussey of Midlothian, Texas, Teddie Bussey of Irving, Texas, and Jacquie Belgea of Mesquite, Texas; and two grandchildren, Trevor and Paden Torricellas of Eugene.
A service will be Tuesday at Cowboy Junction with interment at Fairview cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Service of Vinita.
Mark Andrews
Mark Anthony Andrews, 20, of Silverdale died Jan. 13, 1999.
He was born Oct. 25, 1978. He was raised in Bremerton, attending Central Kitsap Alternative High School.
Survivors include his parents, Garry and Peggy (Devery) Russell of Bremerton; three brothers, Paul and David Andrews and Allen Russell, all of Bremerton; and his grandparents, Steve and Germaine Devery of Bremerton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Edgar Thompson
"Bob" Edgar Robert Thompson, 63, of Port Orchard died Jan. 13, 1999, of heart failure at his home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Edgar R. and Eleanor L. (Sheehan) Thompson. He was raised in Youngstown, graduating from East High School in 1953.
Mr. Thompson served in the Army from 1953 to 1977 in the occupation forces of Europe, in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam, retiring as a master sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the AirMed Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. He worked on Mark 48 torpedo research and development at Keyport for 13 years, retiring in 1993.
On July 3, 1958, he married
Nancy B. McCoy in New Castle, Pa.
He was a life member and past commander of Disabled American Veterans Post 5 in Bremerton, a member of the William H. Upton Lodge 206 in Bremerton, the Elks Lodge 2560 in Gig Harbor and 32 Degrees Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Taipei, Taiwan.
He was a volunteer for 10 years with the first-aid team of the Pendleton, Ore., Round Up; a life member of the Good Samaritans; a member of N.W. SMART (Special Military Active Retired Travelers); and MARBLES (Military Active Retired Bums Living Everywhere Stateside).
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert, Michael and Jeffrey, all of Port Orchard; a daughter, Cheryl Severson of Port Orchard; two brothers, Raymond and James, both of Austintown, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Shelby and Ryan Severson and Jacob, Jarrid and Tiffany Thompson.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at Rill Chapel.

Jerry Sheme
Jerry Sheme, 64, of Bremerton died Jan. 14, 1999, at his home of a heart attack.
He was born Dec. 21, 1934, in Columbus, Kan., to John and Delephine (Gore) Sheme. He was raised in Bremerton. He graduated from high school in Powell, Wyo., in 1951. He attended colleges in Powell and in El Camino, Calif.
On June 8, 1967, he married
Mary Ann Joyce in Las Vegas.
Mr. Sheme served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1962, retiring as a technical specialist.
He was a member of the Toastmasters International.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Jon of Ojai, Calif.; two daughters, Valarie Stalling of Ojai and Shirley Miller of Anaheim, Calif; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 20 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Kitsap Humane Society.
Orvetta Smith
Orvetta Myrtle Smith, 79, of Grapeview died Jan. 12, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born April 7, 1919, in Lone Elm, Kan., to Clifford and Mable (Roe) McCoy. She was raised in Colony, Kan., and graduated from Joplin High School in Joplin, Mo.
On Sept. 28, 1946, she married
George R. Smith in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Smith served in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946 at Camp Pendleton in California, and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, until her unit was disbanded. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bank of America in Vallejo, Calif., for seven years, retiring in 1965.
Survivors include a son, Leon of Belfair; three daughters, Bobbie Kimmell of Grapeview, Cheryl Masino of Port Orchard and Rene Allison of Belfair; 10 grandchildren, Malynda Green and Leann Smith, both of Belfair, Sairah, Kendra and Kristoffer Kimmell, all of Grapeview, Jeremy and Chavawn Masino, both of Port Orchard, and Aaron, David and LaDawna Swinney, all of Oklahoma; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 15 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Joyce Fike
Joyce Carol (Snyder) Fike, 62, of Bremerton died Jan. 13, 1999, at her home, of cancer.
She was born Aug. 20, 1936, in Tacoma to Vern and Hazel Snyder. She was raised and educated in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954.
On Aug. 13, 1955, she married
her childhood sweetheart, Charles David Fike in Tacoma.
Mrs. Fike was a homemaker and was active in Little League, Babe Ruth and Pee Wees.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Robert of Belfair, Richard of Olympia, David of Poulsbo and Donald of Port Orchard; a brother, Robert of Olympia; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Chapel.

Gene Bichon
Gene W. Bichon, born Jean Petain Bichon, 80, of Bremerton died Dec. 31, 1998, at Harrison Hospital of natural causes.
He was born July 8, 1918, in Paducah, Ky., to Charles and Gertrude (McCutcheon) Bichon. He was raised in Paducah, and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1936. He later graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1940.
On Feb. 8, 1947, he married
Faye Bunker in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Bichon was hired at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1940.
He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1954 in Okinawa, retiring as a lieutenant junior grade. He then returned to PSNS as a mechanical engineer in design, retiring in 1984.
He was a charter member of the Memorial Lutheran (Missouri Synod) Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Jackson of Mountlake Terrace; a brother, Edward of Benton, Ky.; and a sister, Katherine Gleaves. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marion; and a sister Margaret Bonner.
At his request, there will be no services.
