Mildred Hall
Mildred Cumle Hall, 73, of Sequim died Jan. 9, 1999, on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Seattle to Olaf and Mildred (Fogelberg) Cumle. They moved to Bainbridge Island when she was in kindergarten. She graduated from high school in 1944. She went on to nursing school at Seattle University and Cabrini Hospital. She later continued her nursing career at the St. Vincent's Home in West Seattle, caring for the retired nuns who were ailing.
On April 22, 1950, she married
Ralph "Barney" Hall in Seattle.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker, Brownie leader, PTA member, a charter member of the Genesee Hill Children's Orthopediic Guild and a member of the Rhododendron Grange.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kathy Butler of Fairfield, Iowa, and Jenny Steelquist of Sequim; two brothers, Kenneth of Lacey and Ned of Bainbridge Island; and two grandchildren, Peter and Daniel Steelquist. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Hansen in 1949.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 16 at Gardiner Grange on Highway 101, Sequim.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sequim Valley Chapel.

Edith Brokke
Edith Brokke, 96, of Bremerton died Jan. 11, 1999, at Belmont Terrace, of heart failure.
She was born July 24, 1902, in Esterville, Iowa.
On June 29, 1946, she married
Clarence Brokke in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Brokke worked at Naval Hospital Bremerton for 30 years until her retirement.
She was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge 133.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marilyn Hays of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Paul Kimball
Paul Edwin Kimball, 29, of Bremerton died Jan. 12, 1999.
He was born Sept. 21, 1969, in Glennallen, Alaska, to Roger and Darlene (Phelps) Kimball. He was raised and educated in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1992.
He was a member of the Association for Retarded Citizens and the Special Olympics.
Survivors include his father of Muskogee, Okla.; his mother of Bremerton; three brothers, Jon of Bremerton and Dan and Duane, both of Anchorage; and a grandmother, Bea Phelps of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Chico Alliance Church.

Barbara Clark
Barbara K. Clark, 88, of Bremerton died Jan. 11, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1910, to John and Dorothy (Wyeth) King. She was raised in Bayard, Neb.
Mrs. Clark worked as a teacher in Nebraska, Idaho and Oregon, then went into the insurance field. She operated a wholesale tomato route in Portland, Ore. She moved to the Puget Sound area in 1959, and worked as an insurance examiner, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of the American Legion's Port Orchard Auxiliary and St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, James Keefe of Port Orchard; three daughters, Lillian Bishop of Port Orchard, Jacie Shelton of Dayton, Nev., and Pat Bering of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Thomas and William, both of Port Orchard; three sisters, Kathryn Plummer of Boise, Idaho, Marianna Simms of Mount Vernon and Patricia Harms of Port Orchard; 12 grandchildren, John Bishop and Becky Welch, both of Bremerton, James Bishop and Connie Keefe, both of Port Orchard, Teresa Cole and Sandy Parkhurst, both of Carson City, Nev., William Bishop of Kennewick, Tom Keefe of Spokane, Robby Shelton of Dayton, Nev., Gary Bering of Sherwood, Ore., Donavan Bering of Newport, Calif., and Kris Lynch of Olalla; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wyeth; two sisters, Florence Miller and Dorothy Missman; and a granddaughter, Vikkie Bishop.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 15 and from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 16 at Rill Chapel, with a funeral Mass following at 1 p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will follow Mass at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Rakiya Walker
Rakiya Ajane' Walker, age 2 1/2 months, of Bremerton died Jan. 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1998, at Harrison Hospital to Johnny Walker Jr. and Tamaca (Graham) Walker.
Survivors include her parents; her brother, Jamiriquan Graham-Harvey of the family home; maternal grandparents, Elnora and Keith Ross of Bremerton; and paternal grandparents, Minnie and Ronald Geter of Atlanta, Ga., and Johnny Walker Sr. of New Jersey.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Tamaca and Johnny Walker, 3639 F. St., Bremerton, WA 98312.
Helen Graffam
Helen Graffam, 87, of Bremerton, died Jan. 9, 1999, at Belmont Terrace.
She was born July 1, 1911, in Greenland, N.H.
Her husband, George S. Graffam Jr., preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Graffam was a homemaker and an active member of the deaf community.
Survivors include two sons, Alan of Suffield, Conn., and Carl of Snohomish; a daughter, Marlene Richards of Bremerton; two sisters, Rose Gobbi and Ardell Mackarchuk of Portsmouth, N.H.; and three grandchildren, Benjiman and Lisa Graffam and Corrine Richards.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 at West Side Baptist Church, 5501 W Werner Road in Bremerton.

Jennie Coleman
Jennie Ruth Coleman, 89, of Bremerton died Jan. 8, 1999.
She was born April 26, 1909, in Blaine to John and Barbara (Russell) Kennedy. She was raised in Bremerton, attending Bremerton High School.
Mrs. Coleman worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 41 years.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 192 and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include her husband, Elwyn A. Coleman of Bremerton; and a brother, Bill Kennedy of Okala, Fla. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Florence Olson, Isabelle Parker, Barbara Fletcher and Elizabeth James.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Jan. 13, with funeral a service following at 1 p.m., both at Miller Woodlawn Chapel.
Jan McIlwain
Jan Quincey McIlwain, 62, died Jan. 6, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz.
She was born May 13, 1936, in Puyallup to Harold and Irma Quincey. She moved to Bainbridge Island, and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1954.
In 1956, she married
Dwight McIlwain in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
She worked for the law firm Sherrard and McGonigle, specializing in probate work. She retired in 1991.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert of Davenport, Iowa, and Jay of Kingston; a brother, Darryl of Seattle; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Chris.
A service was conducted in Mesa, and another service will be conducted on Bainbridge Island at a later date.
Memorials may be made in her memory to Hospice or a charity of your choice.
Frances Black
Frances Frykholm Black, 91, of Scandia died Jan. 10, 1999, at Martha and Mary Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 6, 1907, in Seattle to John and Enice Frykholm. She was raised and educated in Seattle, graduated from Broadway High School in 1925, and later attended the University of Washington for three years.
On June 27, 1930, she married
Hugh David Black in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1942.
Mrs. Black worked in purchasing at Keyport for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and the U.S. Naval Academy Association.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Kirkland and David of Lemolo; a daughter, Barbara Black Dohrn of Bellevue; a sister, Mary Ellen Ostrom of San Marcos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private service will be conducted.

Norma Kubik
Norma Mary Kubik, 87, of Bremerton died Jan. 9, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1911, in Chadron, Neb., to Daniel and Olive (Hoke) O'Connell. She was raised in Nebraska, attended Chadron State College and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Liberal Arts degree in 1934.
On July 9, 1940, she married
Clayton Kubik in Chadron.
Mrs. Kubik was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dan of Wolcott, Conn.; a daughter, Diane McKendry of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Shannon Bruce, Heather McKendry, Michele Anzalone, Barbara Schwartz, and Daniel Robert Kubik; and six great-grandchildren.
Mass will be 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road NE. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park and inurnment at Hillcrest Columbarium, Forest Lawn cemetery.
