W.T. Ranck
W. T. "Ted" Ranck, 96, of Bremerton died Jan. 1, 1999, at home of congestive heart failure.
He was born Aug. 26, 1902, in Valisca, Iowa, to Charles and Toletha (Carey) Ranck. He was raised and educated in Salem, Ore.
On Aug. 31, 1984, he married
Leona Pauline Overmyer in Port Orchard.
Mr. Ranck worked as a purchasing agent and personnel manager for Pacific Greyhound in San Francisco for 30 years until his retirement in 1966.
He was a lifetime member of the Masons, a worthy patron of Eastern Star Inernational Order of Odd Fellows of Bremerton, a member of the Kitsap Senior Singles of Bremerton and a volunteer at the South Kitsap Helpline.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack of Albany, Ore.; two sisters, Jackie Lewis of Oregon City, Ore., and Mae Chang of Clear Lake Oaks, Calif.; three grandchildren, Steve Ranck of Eugene, Ore., Ted Ranck of Sweet Home, Ore., and Dan Ranck of Albany, Ore.; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leita Jane Ranck in 1979; a brother, Clayton Sprungman; and three sisters, Vinnie Tucker, Gladys (Mickey) Boyd and Nita Gorman.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Julius Blatte
Julius Blatte, 85, of Bremerton died Jan. 3, 1999, of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 3, 1913, to Joe and Anne Blatte. He was raised in Bremerton, graduating from West Bremerton High School.
Mr. Blatte served in the Navy. He worked for Julie's Metal Salvage for 50 years, retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his son, Bernard of San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rhea Blatte; a brother, Ben; and two sisters, Jane and Ida.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
William Cannon Sr.
Former Bremerton resident William Rhett Cannon Sr., 74, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Jan. 1, 1999, at Florida Medical Center.
He was born March 4, 1924, in Bell Plain, Iowa, to Cloyde and Ida (Merrick) Cannon. He was raised in Iowa. He moved to the Bremerton area in 1990.
On Jan. 6, 1946, he married
Marchita J. Hayes.
She preceded him in death in 1994. On May 27, 1995, he married
Reba Flathers in Fort Lauderdale.
Mr. Cannon served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, and then from 1953 to 1969 as a SeaBee.
He served in Europe during World War II, during the Korean Conflict and a tour in Vietnam. He worked as a teacher and technical writer for manuals used by the Navy and several private companies.
He attended Iowa State Teachers College prior to his military service.
Following his service, he attended Berkeley University and received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of LaVerne. He obtained a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Jr. of Bremerton and Marcus; a daughter, Briana Roynon of Tampa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Parris of Columbia, S.C., and Mary Ellen Schuck of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Ray of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Cloyde of Winterset, Iowa; a sister, Rosiva O'Donnell of Council Bluff, Iowa; six grandchildren, Sean, Ivan, Juliette, Danielle, Bill and David; and six great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha and Cloydeen.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 7, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Art Goniea
Art L. Goniea, 21, of Sunnyslope died Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1977, in Lansing, Mich., to Greg and Kathy (Rushing) Goniea. He moved to Port Orchard in 1989.
He graduated from North Mason High School in 1995, and from Universal Tech Institute in 1996.
He worked for Hills Heating and Air Conditioning of Tacoma and, most recently, for Dick's Heating and Air Conditioning of Tacoma.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Greg and Flo Goniea of Walled Lake, Mich.; his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Tom Atencio of Portland, Texas; a brother, Eric Atencio of Portland, Texas; two stepbrothers, Keith and Kevin; a sister, Emily Atencio of Portland, Texas; a stepsister, Kim; maternal grandparents, Larkin and Opal Rushing of Sacramento, Calif.; and his grandmother, Sally Atencio of Ridgecrest, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 at North Mason Bible Church in Belfair.

Eudora Gorst
Eudora Gorst, 87, who was woman of the year in both Bremerton and Ephrata in Grant County, died Dec. 30, 1998, in Des Moines near Seattle.
She was born July 12, 1911, in Clatskanie, Ore., but both her parents, Benjamin and Estelle Birkenfeld, died before she was 6 months old. She and her three siblings were raised by different family members, she by her mother's sister, Alice Duckwiler of Bremerton, and Alice's husband George.
She married
Howard Gorst of the family for which the community of Gorst is named in the mid-1930s. He was Bremerton public works commissioner, one of the city's top three elected officials, in the 1940s, before he took his family to Kennewick in 1951 when he got a job at Hanford.
She attended Olympic Junior College in Bremerton for a year after her marriage. While in Bremerton, she was named woman of the year in 1948. She did a lot of volunteer work, and was an organizer and first president of the Kitsap YWCA. She later was active with the YWCA in both Richland and Ephrata.
In Bremerton, she was active with Rainbow Girls, Olympic Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Soroptimists, Community Chest and Kitsap County PTA Council, and was a Scout leader. She and her husband were among the earliest members of Winter Club, a formal dance club.
She was named woman of achievement in 1958 in Ephrata, where she worked with the United Fund, YWCA and the Methodist Church.
Her husband died in 1970, and her brother, Calvin Birkenfeld of Bremerton, in 1985
She is survived by two sons, Howard "Clay" of Prosser and Clinton of Bellingham; a stepsister, Winona Lundemo McPherson of Bellevue; and three grandchildren, Reed of Lynnwood, Ryan of Rockville, Md., and Elizabeth Gallant of Woodbridge, Va.
There will be a memorial service in mid-February at Wesley Care Center in Des Moines, where she had lived since 1984 and where she died.

Sheron McNeill
Sheron K. McNeill, 57, of Allyn died at Providence St. Peters Hospital in Olympia on Dec. 31, 1998. She was born May 2, 1941, to Henry and Agnes (Moore) Goddard in Rock Springs, Wyo., where she was raised.
She worked for 22 years for Pacific Telephone Co., where she became a central office technician before retiring in 1984.
She enjoyed reading and ceramics.
She married
George McNeill on March 13, 1965, in Las Vegas. He survives her, as do son Glenn of Allyn; a stepson, Michael McNeill of Sequim; two stepdaughters, Lynn Stemkoski of Battleground and Sharon Ackaert of Port Orchard; a brother, George Goddard of Mammoth, Calif.; and a sister Barbara Ellis of Burbank, Calif.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Burial will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Mary Johnson
Mary Kathleen Johnson, 89, of Port Orchard died Jan. 1, 1999, at Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
She was born Feb. 26, 1909, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to George and Mary Jane (Downey) Hopwood. She was raised in Vancouver, B.C.
She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for more than 40 years for her husband at Fernwood Appliance Repair.
Her husband, Corey, whom she married
on Nov. 23, 1931, in Canada, died in 1986.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Pierson of Olalla and Georgina Nelson of Allyn; a brother, Victor Hopwood of Vancouver; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Colby cemetery under direction of Pendleton Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the North Mason Food Bank.
Hazel Louden
Hazel C. Louden, 81, of Bremerton died Feb. 19, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Seabeck to Peter and Hattie (Sacker) Emel.
She attended Lone Rock School in Seabeck and graduated from Port Washington Bay High School (Central Kitsap High School) in 1935. She later graduated from beauty school.
On Nov. 30, 1941, she married
Lester A. Louden in Sultan, Wash. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1991.
Mrs. Louden worked as a retail clerk at Ben Bridge Jewelers in Bremerton for many years and then for Behm Jewelers in Silverdale.
Survivors include a nephew, Ivan Emel of Seabeck; and a niece, Elaine Zetty of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernie, in 1972.
Cremation was under the direction of Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Jeanne Thompson
Jeanne D. Thompson, 73, of Port Orchard died Feb. 18, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in New York, to Katie H. (Reusch) and Daniel Donnelly.
Being a Navy dependent, she lived in many cities, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1944. She later attended the University of Washington School of Nursing.
On Sept. 29, 1945, she married
Vernon L. Thompson in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Thompson was a medical assistant in the office of her husband's medical practice.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Auxiliary, Pasco Senior Citizen Center, American Legion Auxiliary 30 and past worthy adviser of Port Orchard Rainbow Assembly.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Maguire of Whidbey Island; a daughter, Joan Crain of Pasco; a sister, Katherine E. Wilson of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren, Erin and Scott Crain of Pasco and Sean, Michael and Brian Maguire of Whidbey Island. She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Jr., in 1975.
Inurnment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Spokane with memorial services to be announced at a later date.
