Robert Baker
Robert Arthur Baker, 88, of Bremerton died Feb. 21, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1910, in Denver, Colo., to Clyde and Minnie (Mosman) Baker.
He attended schools in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Riverton, Wash., graduating from Foster High School in 1928.
He was an operating engineer for several industrial gas manufacturers, as well as Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1975 from the liquid carbonics division of General Dynamics. He also contributed to the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.
Mr. Baker was a master Mason.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elna Marckx; two sons, Clyde of Bremerton and Ralph of Gresham, Ore.; a daughter, Carol Burke of Bremerton; a sister, Ella Cook of Renton; four grandchildren, Les Burke and Katie, Corey and Toby Baker; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation is by Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Services will be announced at a later date.

Audrey English
Audrey Ruth English, 85, of Bremerton died Feb. 23, 1999, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Seattle to Hubert and Mabel (Clare) Curtis.
Mrs. English was a member of the pioneering family that homesteaded Clare's Marsh where Eagle Hardware now stands. She was a homemaker.
In 1932, she married
Charles A. Miller. He preceded her in death. Neil English, her second husband, preceded her in death in 1974.
She was a member of Tracyton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Tracyton Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Charles C. Miller of Oakhill, Fla.; a daughter, Cleta Lovorn of Tracyton; six grandchildren, Debbie Smalley, Shannon Sears, Wally Sears, Chris Thatcher, Melinda Euceda and Carol Ridings; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with services following at 11 a.m., all at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A private interment will take place at Tracyton cemetery.

Ethel DeClements
Ethel Norma DeClements, 81, of Bremerton died Feb. 24, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
She was born April 13, 1917, in Chico to Arthur and Jeanette (Sparks) Craig.
She was raised in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1935, and from Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.
On Dec. 6, 1941, she married
Roger DeClements.
Mrs. DeClements worked at the old Port Orchard Hospital and then worked for several doctors. She started the Peninsula Lodge and was its administrator until retiring in 1984, remaining on the board.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, the Alumni of Tacoma General Hospital and Bremerton Yacht Club Skipperettes.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Bremerton and Ralph of Suquamish; a sister, Lillian Kirk of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Krystle and Aaron DeClements. She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond and Richard.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Crematory, with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Nicholas Ryan
Nicholas "Nick" A. Ryan, 23, of Suquamish died Feb. 23, 1999, in Kingston.
He was born Jan. 20, 1976, in Livingston, Tenn., to John and Carol (Mather) Ryan.
He was raised in Kissimmee, Fla., where he graduated from high school in 1994, moving to Kingston in 1997.
He was employed at Deernad Construction Co., where he produced and used concrete forms.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Jason of Georgia; maternal grandfather, Raymond "Porky" Mather of Dania, Fla.; paternal grandparents, John F. and Brigid Ryan of Southbury, Conn.; maternal great-grandmother, Alba Hoover of Livingston, Tenn.; and his fiancee, Amy Pelham of Poulsbo.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Inurnment will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

Betty Mansfield
Betty Clorene Mansfield, 76, of Bremerton died Feb. 23, 1999, at Belmont Terrace.
She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Salem, Ore., to John and Emily (Loose) Van Santen. She was raised in Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1940. She graduated from Pacific University in 1944.
On Oct. 12, 1945, she married
Dale Mansfield in Salem.
Mrs. Mansfield taught school in Salem, Hood River, Ore., and in Palo Alto, Calif.
She was a member of the Ladies of Elks, the Kiwanis Club and a member of Who's Who in America while in college.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Cyndy Schnell of Bremerton and Jan Howard of Everett; a sister, Peggy Davies of Albany, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Kip Caulpetzer, Evan Howard, Kyle Schnell and Cameron Schnell.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Nellie Johnson
Nellie Tweed Johnson, 89, of Bremerton died Feb. 24, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 10, 1910, to Mary Ellen (Dutcher) and Ansel Tweed.
She retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1972.
Mrs. Johnson had lived on Erlands Point since 1941, and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Geneology Society.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Tweed Deaton of Umatilla, Fla.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Cremation is by Lewis Funeral Chapel, with inurnment at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton.
Jeanne Thompson
Jeanne D. Thompson, 73, of Port Orchard died Feb. 18, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in New York, to Katie H. (Reusch) and Daniel Donnelly.
As a Navy dependent, she lived in many cities, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1944, and later attending the University of Washington School of Nursing.
On Sept. 29, 1945, she married
Vernon L. Thompson in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Thompson was a medical assistant in the office of her husband's medical practice.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Auxiliary, Pasco Senior Citizen Center, American Legion Auxiliary 30 and past worthy advisor of Port Orchard Rainbow Assembly.
Survivors include a son, Dennis MaGuire of Whidbey Island; a daughter, Joan Crain of Pasco; a sister, Katherine E. Wilson of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren, Erin and Scott Crain of Pasco and Sean, Michael and Brian MaGuire of Whidbey Island. She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Jr., in 1975.
Inurnment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Spokane with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.

Waldemar Henning
Waldemar "Wally" Henning, 82, of Bremerton died Feb. 19, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born May 19, 1916, to Paul and Bertha (Fiedler) Henning. He was raised in Kimball, Wis.
On Sept. 27, 1944, he married
Teresa Conterio.
Mr. Henning served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 during the Italian Campaign in the Anzio Fifth Army. He received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon. He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus third and fourth degree, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles, the Disabled American Veterans, the Sons of Italy and was a eucharistic minister at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carolyn Ries of Bremerton, Roberta Walkenhorst of Hazelwood, Mo., and Louise Caristi of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Paul Henning of Burley, Wis.; six grandchildren, Teresa, Lisa, Dawn, Michael, Alycia and Anthony; and three great-grandchildren.
Rosary recitation and visitation will start at 11 a.m. Thursday, with funeral services at noon, both at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Entombment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus charities or to Saint Vincent de Paul.
