Charles Stone
Charles G. Stone, 92, of Bremerton died Feb. 10, 1999, at Sunrise Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 2, 1906, in Willard, Ohio, to Roy and Jenny Stone. He was raised in Akron, Ohio, graduating from high school in 1924. He later attended the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif.
Mr. Stone had worked as a long-haul truck driver and a delivery driver for a bakery in San Bernardino, Calif. He owned and operated a service station in Palm Springs, Calif., owned and operated Western Auto Store in Palmdale, Calif., owned and operated a liquor store in San Bernardino and most recently owned and operated a bar and restaurant in Lancaster, Calif., retiring in 1991.
He was a charter member, past secretary and honorary life member of the Palmdale Elks and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include a son, Charles of Bremerton; a daughter, Jenine of Auburn, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Peters) Stone in 1995; a son, Robert; and a brother, Kent.
No services will be conducted.

Meriel Gehrdes
Meriel G. Gehrdes, 87, of Bremerton died of natural causes Feb. 5, 1999.
She was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Port Arthur, Texas, to William and Anne Green. She was raised in Biggs, Calif.
She lived in Death Valley, Calif., and Yellowstone for a number of years and spent the last 20 years of her life in the Puget Sound area.
She was a Kitsap Master Gardener.
She leaves no survivors.
At her request, there will be no services.

Janetta Nelson
Janetta L. Nelson, 80, of Olalla died Jan. 31, 1999.
She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Puyallup to Charles and Cora Lawson. She was raised and educated in Orting. She later attended Washington State University, majoring in fine arts and graduating Phi Kappa Phi in 1939.
In 1941, she married
Carl Nelson and they moved to Port Orchard. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nelson worked as an art teacher in South Kitsap and Bremerton school districts, and was art coordinator for the Bremerton School District at the end of her career. She retired from teaching in the late 1970s after an illness.
She assembled and prepared the Olalla portion of the "History of Kitsap County" published by the Kitsap County Historical Society in 1977, and was active in the Sydney Historical Association.
Survivors include a son, Robert; a daughter, Marianne Nelson Stewart; a brother, Ralph of Spanaway; and a grandchild, Michael Nelson of Redmond.
No service is planned.
Stephen LaBombard
Stephen C. LaBombard, 36, of Newmarket, England, died Jan. 30, 1999.
He was born March 12, 1962, at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Va., to Francis "Frenchy" and Grace (Crowder) LaBombard. As a Navy dependent, he was raised in Virginia, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Connecticut and Washington. He graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton, Conn., and from Northwest College in Kirkland in 1980.
Mr. LaBombard served 15 years in the Air Force as a staff sergeant stationed in Germany, at McChord Air Force Base, in the Netherlands and in England. He was a member of the 48th Communication Squadron, Royal Air Force in Lakenheath, England.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky of Newmarket, England; his parents of Silverdale; four daughters, Margaret, Sarah, Deborah and Katy, all of the family home; and two brothers, Tom of Lewiston, Idaho, and Philip of Ellendale, N.D.
A green burial was conducted at Oakfields at Wrab Ness, England, on Feb. 4.
Local services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Olympic View Assembly of God, 11632 Silverdale Way.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Olympic View Assembly of God, Steve LaBombard Memorial Fund for outreach in Mongolia.
Juanita Harris
Juanita B. Harris, 63, of Bremerton died of cancer Feb. 9, 1999, at Forest Ridge Convalescent Center.
She was born May 28, 1935, in Merlin, Okla.
She worked at Cypress Gardens.
Survivors include a son, Ricky McCormick of Bremerton; a daughter, Roberta McCormick of Bremerton; two brothers, Harley of Grants Pass, Ore., and Charles of Merlin, Ore.; two sisters, Goldie Garcia of Bremerton and Della Ayers of Grants Pass, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Terry, Robin, Steven, Cathy, Troy and Michael. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ernest; and three sisters, Viola, Halena and Marjorie.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Miller Woodlawn Chapel. Interment
will be at the Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
George Morris
Former longtime Bremerton resident George Jerome Morris, 88, died of heart failure Feb. 9, 1999, in Oregon.
He was born Nov. 17, 1910, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George and Mary (Jones) Morris. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1928. He later attended Olympic College and went through the apprenticeship program at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the early 1930s.
On June 30, 1931, he married
Emma Trather in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1987. On
Jan. 3, 1993, he married
Blanche Potter in King City, Ore.
He worked for 41 years at PSNS as civilian head of the supply department, retiring in 1968.
He was a 50-year member of Olympic Chapter 216 of the Order of Eastern Star and was past master of the Bremerton Masonic Lodge and a member of the Birthday Gang and Cribbage Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Talluto of Tigard, Ore., and Elaine Welks of Beaverton, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Kathleen, Karen and Jim Talluto and Julie, Tom and Diane Wells; and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Manette Community Church.

La Verne Olberding
La Verne Wayne "Obe" Olberding, 68, of Port Ludlow died Feb. 3, 1999, at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona.
He was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Lismore, Minn. He attended Queens College in New York, and the University of Washington. He was also a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School.
Mr. Olberding began his career at the National Bank of Commerce and retired as the senior vice president of Security Pacific Bank in Seattle. He was a resident of Bainbridge Island for 20 years before moving to Port Ludlow in 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy; a son, Mike; a daughter, Laura; and seven grandchildren.
At Mr. Olberding's request, no service will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Earl Pomerenk
Former Port Orchard resident Earl K. Pomerenk died Feb. 4, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Harlington, Texas, and attended Texas A&M; University. He worked his way through pharmacy school at the University of Washington, graduating with honors.
Mr. Pomerenk served as a pharmacist's mate in the Naval Submarine Medical Corps. He later worked for Lang Drug Company until 1957, at which time he went to work at Burston's Pharmacy in Seattle. He took over ownership in 1965, and operated the business until his retirement in 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet; two daughters, Marilyn Metaxa of Paros, Greece, and Gail Hudson of Enumclaw; two brothers, Jim of Vancouver, Wash., and Glenn of Bellevue; and three grandchildren, Garrett, Alexandra and Stefanos. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle; and three brothers, Walter, Henry and Ralph.
Viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, Seattle, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, Port Orchard.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Lane cemetery, Port Orchard. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Seattle.

Thell Rea
Thell Eugene Rea, 78, of Bremerton died Feb. 7, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Great Falls, Mont., to Cal and Lizzie (Sammons) Rea. He was raised and educated in Montana until the 11th grade. He graduated from high school in Ceres, Calif., in 1938, and then attended Oregon State University for five years, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in business and industry.
On Aug. 9, 1944, he married
Lois Gruen in McCook, Neb.
Mr. Rea served in the Army, attending Officers Training School. He was a member of the 9th Bomber Group and served a total of 22 years. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. He worked as an assistant manager at Sears until 1970.
At age 50, he returned to the University of Puget Sound and received his teaching degree and became a school teacher for eight years, teaching at both East and West Bremerton high schools.
He was a life member of the Elks in Albany, Ore., and was a member of the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce for several years.
Survivors include his wife; twin sons, Richard and Ronald, both of Bremerton; a daughter, Gail Paull of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a sister, Elsie Paddock of Florence, Ore.; two grandchildren, Bobbie Forney of Wichita, Kan., and Deborah Paull of Ridgecrest; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park, with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
