Mary McFarland
Former longtime Bremerton resident Mary McFarland, 80, died Feb. 1, 1999, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Olympia.
She was born May 29, 1918, in Havre, Mont.
On Feb. 27, 1937, she married
Thomas E. McFarland in Snohomish. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Michael of Olympia and Albert of Bremerton; a daughter, Gloria Stuart of Seabeck; a brother, Bill Kiehn of Arlington; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
No services will be conducted.

Deborah Hughes
Deborah Edwards Hughes, 42, of Bainbridge Island died in an accidental drowning Jan. 29, 1999.
She was born June 22, 1956, in Maryland, to Ed and Marilyn Edwards.
On Jan. 12, 1999, she married
Steven Hughes.
Mrs. Edwards served in the Navy.
Survivors include her husband; her parents; two sons, Ahren and Edward Ben Judah; a daughter, Leah Ben Judah; a brother, Scott of Quilcene; and two sisters, Diana Perea of Hansville and Donna of Suquamish.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Crossroads Neighborhood Church in East Bremerton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
Robert Cromer
Robert Hamilton Cromer, 73, of Belfair died of a major stroke while battling cancer Jan. 30, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Arkansas, to Robert and Elsay (Stewart) Cromer. He was raised in Prescott, Ark.
On Aug. 14, 1948, he married
Virginia Brown in Georgia.
Mr. Cromer served in the Army from 1945 to 1948.
He owned Bob's Market in Seattle from 1954 to 1959, and from 1963 to 1968. He then owned Skyway Disposal in Seattle from 1969 to 1974. Most recently, he worked in real estate management from 1974 to 1987.
He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Tacoma; a daughter, Jill of Pullman; and four grandchildren, Christopher Cromer of Tacoma, Brenda Cromer of Tampa, Fla., Cathleen Cromer of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jacqueline Cromer-Parr of Pullman.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 3 and from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 4 with a funeral service immediately following, all at Rill Chapel.
Interment will be at Twin Firs cemetery following the service.

Emily Lunsford
Emily Boyd Lunsford, 74, of Bremerton died Jan. 31, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1924, in Columbus, Miss., to Locke and Eugenia (Bonds) Boyd. She was raised and educated in Columbus.
Mrs. Lunsford worked as a seamstress.
Survivors include a son, William of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Beth Johnson of Bremerton; a sister, Sylvia Steely of Mobile, Ala.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 at Forest Lawn cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.
Feb. 6 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Clifford Harper
Clifford H. Harper, 77, of Manchester died after a lengthy illness Feb. 2, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Victor, Idaho, to John and Florence (Bircher) Harper. He was raised and educated in Driggs, Idaho, graduating from Driggs High School. He later attended Idaho State University, receiving a pharmacy degree.
On July 3, 1965, he married
Elaine Gibson in Nampa.
Mr. Harper served in the Navy during World War II. He owned his own pharmacy in Nampa, Idaho, from 1950 to 1967. He later worked as a pharmacist at Hannah and Powell in Port Orchard and for Payless in Bremerton.
He was a 50-year member of the Elks, an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received his 50-year Golden Certificate from Idaho State University for being a pharmacist.
Survivors include four sons, Kent and John, both of Arizona, David of South Carolina, and Gary of Clackamas, Ore.; two stepsons, Craig Gibson of Boise, Idaho, and Wayne Gibson of Port Orchard; a brother, William of Longview; a sister, Vivian Byington of Logan, Utah; and eight grandchildren.
A private interment will be conducted at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Merle Cecotti
Merle A. Cecotti, 65, of Port Orchard died Jan. 31, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Mount Vernon to Anthony and Alta (Lee) Cecotti. He was raised in Kitsap County.
On Oct. 12, 1956, he married
Loralie Hesse in Bremerton.
Mr. Cecotti served in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1954. A decorated Korean War veteran, he received the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He served as a drill instructor. He later worked as a maintenance supervisor with Clover Park in the Tacoma School District for 12 years, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Nick of Mount Vernon, Mark of Caldwell, Idaho, and Wes of Sachse, Texas; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelli Uhl; a granddaughter, Melissa Uhl; and a grandson, Michael Cecotti.
Private services will be conducted.

Louella Swackhamer
Longtime Bremerton resident Louella "Babe" I. Swackhamer, 74, died Feb. 1, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Aston, Okla. She relocated to the Pacific Northwest at an early age.
On Jan. 3, 1943, she married
Donald Swackhamer. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Swackhamer retired from the Navy Exchange in Bremerton and was an active member of the Tracyton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Michael of Lynnwood; three daughters, Sandra Beckner of Dallas, Rita Lauer of Port Orchard and Pam Dela Torre' of Bremerton; four grandchildren, Jimmy, Marlaina, Skyler and Evan; and one great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Tracyton United Methodist Church, 5953 Naomi NW, Tracyton.
Memorials may be made in memory of "Babe" to Tracyton United Methodist Church.
James Mitchell
James V. Mitchell, 78, of Port Ludlow died Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.
He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Los Angeles. He attended high school in Alhambra, Calif.
Mr. Mitchell worked as an airline pilot for 37 years with United Airlines, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Fred of Sequim and Douglas of San Diego; a daughter, Lynn Befort of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Jack of Texas; a sister, Tina Bertini of Alhambra; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Port Ludlow Beach Club.

Domingo Goyena Sr.
Domingo E. Goyena Sr., 62, of Port Orchard died Jan. 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Barcelona, Philippines, to Urbano and Gerarda (Espadilla) Goyena. He was raised in the Philippines.
In 1963, he married
Muriel Encinares in the Philippines.
Mr. Goyena served in the Navy from 1959 to 1979 in Guam, San Diego, Japan and Hawaii. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Good Conduct Award. He retired as a chief petty officer. He then worked in federal civil service at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Domingo Jr. of San Diego; two daughters, Diana of Port Orchard and Shirley Goodrich of Coronado, Calif.; a brother, Salustiano of San Diego; two sisters, Salvacion Encinares of Port Orchard and Rosario Frayna of the Philippines; and one grandchild, Stephen Goodrich of Coronado.
A vigil ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at Rill Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 2 and Feb. 3; from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 4 at Rill Chapel; and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, with a funeral service immediately following.
