Mary Gustafson
Longtime Port Orchard resident Mary Gustafson, 87, died Jan. 21, 1999, at the Bremerton Convalescent Center.
She was born in Seattle on June 23, 1911, to Joe and Mary Ann (Rogers) Yaselunas. She attended school in Ballard.
In 1948, she married
Elmer Gustafson in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gustafson worked as a cook at the University of Washington and then worked for 15 years in food service at Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
Survivors include three nephews, Swan Hamren, Gunnar Hamren and Leroy Lider, all of Port Orchard.
A memorial service will be on Feb. 13 at the Eastwind Apartments.
Interment is at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.
Allan Butcher
Allan Rush Butcher, 66, of Port Orchard died Jan. 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital. He was born March 22, 1932, in Seattle to Gary and Rebekkah (Rush) Butcher. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1952.
On Dec. 26, 1956, he married
Maxine Hurd in Bremerton.
Mr. Butcher served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955 in Korea. He also served in the reserves for 22 years, retiring in 1977. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a planner and estimator, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Puget Apartment Operators Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Port Orchard and Michael of Edgewood; two daughters, Debbie Wardell and Sandra Butcher, both of Seattle; a sister, Marian Weaver of Tamarack, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Cassie Wardell of Port Orchard, Nicole Brooke and Courtney Butcher, both of Belfair, and Michelle, Bradley and Carlie Butcher, all of Edgewood.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 4 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 5 with a funeral service immediately following, all at Rill Chapel.
Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Dorothy Knudson
Longtime Vaughn resident Dorothy F. Knudson, 88, died Jan. 28, 1999.
She was born March 15, 1910, in Highmore, S.D.
Mrs. Knudson owned a store in Lakebay and was involved with Avon for 15 years.
She was a member of the Home Chapel.
Survivors include a son, Chris of Honolulu; a daughter, Irene Rodman of Stockton, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 1990; a son, Myron; a daughter, Sylvia Holden; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Knudson.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at Vaughn Community Church. Interment
will be at Vaughn Bay cemetery.

Florence Sauerbier
Florence "Jimmy" L. Sauerbier, 63, of Bremerton died of cancer Jan. 28, 1999, at her home.
She was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Lake Arthur, N.M., to Eugene and Martha (Miles) Mack. She was raised and educated in Montpelier, Idaho, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1953.
On June 25, 1954, she married
Walton "Bud" F. Sauerbier in Quartzsite, Ariz.
Mrs. Sauerbier worked in civil service for 27 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Olympic Chapter, the Order of Amaranth, Bremerton Court No. 9 and the Hatasu Temple of the Nile in Seattle.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles and Walton "Ted" of Burke, Va.; two daughters, Martha Mainor of Kent and Laura Aucourt of St. Helen, Ore.; three brothers, Calvin of Glendale, Ariz., and Joseph and Eugene, both of Nebraska; a sister, Norma Jean of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Crow.
At her request, there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

John Gaskill
John R. Gaskill of Port Orchard died March 22, 1999, in Spokane at age 64.
He was born June 26, 1934, in Holly, Colo.
He married
his second wife, Kathy, in 1976 in Winnemucca, Nev.
His construction career started in the Los Angeles area and brought him to Washington state in 1977 to help build the new Naval Hospital Bremerton. He was employed by Howard S. Wright Construction of Seattle at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; three daughters, Wendy of Port Orchard, Amy of Lomita, Calif., and Robbie Wolcott of Olalla; and three sons, Johnnie R. Jr. of Tacoma, Terry of Fernley, Nev., and Rick of Long Beach, Calif.
A memorial service is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. March 27 at the Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Parra
Robert "Bobby" Parra, 45, of Silverdale died March 21, 1999, in Silverdale.
He was born Aug. 13, 1953, to Michael and Nancy (Duvall) Parra in Toledo, Ohio, where he was raised and attended Libby High School. He served in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
He is survived by four brothers, Victor of Toledo, Eugene of Lima, Ohio, Stephen of Bremerton and Mark; and three sisters, Cathy Dennis of Silverdale and Cynthia Helems and Kimberly Carney, both of Kent.
No services have been scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Florence Stedman
A. Florence Stedman, 93, of Bremerton died March 22, 1999, of natural causes in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Pelican Rapids, Minn., to Axel and Emma (Larson) Blad. She was raised in Lake Park, Minn.; Williston, N.D.; and Minot, N.D.
She married
Melvin M. Stedman May 31, 1927, in Keene, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1960.
Mrs. Stedman taught school for four years prior to her marriage, and worked as a homemaker afterward.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard.
Survivors include three sons, Les of Manchester, Merle of Holly and Dewey of East Wenatchee, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald, in 1995.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard, followed immediately by a funeral service at the church.
Burial will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard after the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home in Port Orchard.

Blanche Book
Blanche E. Book, 93, died March 24, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 21, 1905, in Amboy, Minn., to Loren and Iva (Amidon) Parks. She was raised in Milnor, N.D., where she graduated from Milnor High School as valedictorian of the class of 1922.
She married
Robert M. Book on Oct. 11, 1924, in Milnor. He died in 1992.
The Bremerton resident was a member of Rebecca Lodge, St. Luke's Methodist Church and the women's auxiliary of a World War I veterans organization.
Survivors include a son, Robert of Kent; two daughters, Genevieve Geier of Port Orchard and Barbara Sowell of Hoquiam; two sisters, Helen Girard of Bismark, N.D., and Clarice Wright of Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Esther Munson
Esther Mae Munson, 78, of Belfair died of bone marrow cancer March 21, 1999, at her home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Snoqualmie Falls to LeRoy and Mae (Dillman) Rutledge. She is a graduate of North Bend High School.
On Feb. 6, 1948, she married
William Edward Munson in Snoqualmie.
Mrs. Munson worked as a bookkeeper for Frank Lumber Co., a family-owned business, in North City (Seattle) for 25 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Twanoh Falls Women's Club and the Gypsy Roamers R.V. Club in Belfair.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sally Jean Cash of Shedd, Ore., and Rebecca Lynn Whitman of Renton; four brothers, Walter Rutledge of the San Juan Islands, Robert Rutledge of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gerald Rutledge of Pennsylvania and Fredrick Rutledge of Ballard; seven grandchildren, Patrick McDonald of Anchorage, Alaska, Vicky Martin of Snohomish, Jeff McDonald of Stockton, Calif., Grant Munson-Whitman and Tiffany Whitman, both of Renton, Holly Cash of Shedd, Ore., and Silvia Kammerer of Bothel; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Dowd.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Private family inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
