Reuben Peterson
Reuben Peterson, 80, of Port Orchard died March 21, 1999, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born May 1, 1918, in Roslyn, S.D., to Andrew and Clara (Stavig) Peterson. He graduated from Roslyn High School in 1936 and from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., in 1949.
On Feb. 10, 1943, he married Sally (Selma Thorson) Peterson in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mr. Peterson served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a medical corpsman in New Caledonia during World War II.
Later, he worked as a herdsman-farm manager at the South Dakota School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls, S.D., from 1938 to 1942, as general manager of the Nebraska Artificial Breeders Association in Fremont, Neb., from 1950 to 1966 and was director of marketing at Carnation Farms Breeding Service in Carnation from 1966 to 1973.
His last position was director of marketing for Tri-State Breeders Association in Baraboo, Wis., from 1973 until his retirement in 1983.
He served as president of the National Association of Artificial Breeders and was on the board of directors for six years. He also was a church member wherever he lived, most recently at Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard.
He also was an active leader of 4-H and Cub Scouts and a cattle judge for fairs and cattle expositions.
Survivors include his wife; one son, David of Bellingham; two daughters, Judy Stephens of Port Orchard and Susan Bradrick of Montesano; one sister, Alice Brooks of Redmond, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, Andrew Bradrick of Dallas, Ann-Elizabeth Barth of Cornwall, Vt., Katherine, Kristen, Cecily, Amy Ellen, Peter, Phillip and Stephen Bradrick, all of Montesano, Mekaela, Tyman, Jordan, Collin, Brittany, Cade, Travis, and Shea Stephen, all of Port Orchard; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard. Private family interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Esther Munson
Esther Mae Munson, 78, of Belfair died of bone marrow cancer March 21, 1999, at her home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Snoqualmie Falls to LeRoy and Mae (Dillman) Rutledge. She is a graduate of North Bend High School.
On Feb. 6, 1948, she married William Edward Munson in Snoqualmie.
Mrs. Munson worked as a bookkeeper for Frank Lumber Co. (a family owned business) in North City (Seattle) for 25 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Twanoh Falls Women's Club and the Gypsy Roamers R.V. Club in Belfair.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sally Jean Cash of Shedd, Ore., and Rebecca Lynn Whitman of Renton; four brothers, Walter Rutledge of the San Juan Islands, Robert Rutledge of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gerald Rutledge of Pennsylvania, and Fredrick Rutledge of Ballard; six grandchildren, Patricia McDonald of Anchorage, Vicky Martin of Snohomish, Jeff McDonald of Stockton, Calif., Grant Munson-Whitman and Tiffany Whitman, both of Renton, Holly Cash of Shedd, Ore., and Silvia Kammerer of Bothel; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Dowd.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Private family inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Ohman Christopher
Former Kitsap County resident Ohman Edward Christopher, 73, died March 11, 1999, following an extended illness.
He was born March 6, 1926, in Bremerton to Rupert and Elsie Christopher. He was raised in the Crosby area and attended Union High School in Silverdale.
On Sept. 17, 1954, he married his wife Francis in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Christopher served in the Marine Corps from age 17. He served with the 2nd Marine Division until he was wounded during an attack on Okinawa. He later worked as a logger in the Crosby area for several years. Logging eventually took him to Oakridge, Ore., with the Whitaker Logging Company and he later went to work for Pope and Talbot Co., retiring from there in 1988.
He was a charter member of the Oakridge Moose Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former member of the CB (Citizens Band) Club of Oakridge, where he was known by the handle "Bulldog."
He is survived by his wife; two stepdaughters, Jacqueline Goad and Patricia Dilworth of Springfield, Ore.; three brothers, Kenneth of Shelton, Jim of Bremerton, and Verne of Crosby; one sister, Viola Stockton of Bremerton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Crosby Chapel.

Nellie Muellerm
Nellie Mueller, 99, of Bainbridge Island died March 21, 1999, at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 16, 1900, in Doe Run, Mo., to George and Cora Fleming McFarland.
In 1936, she married Gene Mueller.
Mrs. Mueller earned her real estate broker's license at age 68 and retired from real estate sales in 1980 at age 80. She earned her high school diploma at age 72. She moved to Bainbridge Island in 1980 and ran a commercial sewing business until age 95.
She is survived by two sons, Andrew of Bainbridge Island and Gene of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Bernell Clifford of Bainbridge Island; eight grandchildren, John Menacho of Santa Clara, Calif., Steve Clifford of Bainbridge Island, Ken Clifford of San Jose, Calif., Mike Clifford of Campbell, Calif., Kim and Jan of Bainbridge Island and Cheri Froese and Teri Rupp, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at Port Madison cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 400 E Pine, Suite 220, Seattle, WA 98122, or to the Bainbridge Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island.

Gwendolyn Hammill
Gwendolyn Leeotie Hammill, 72, of Bremerton died March 21, 1999, at Forest Ridge Convalescent Center.
She was born June 9, 1926, in Bremerton to Agusta and Leeotie (Dorough) DeMent. She was raised in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1944.
On Nov. 30, 1957, she married Cecil Hammill in Bremerton.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Larry of Bremerton; one daughter, Susan Farmer of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren, Robert and Sarah Farmer.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with reception following. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Robert McKinney
Robert Wayne McKinney, 4, of Bremerton died March 17, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 7, 1994 in Bremerton to Sharon (Henley) VanDeGrift and Jody McKinney.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Josiah Lee Bakken and Jayme T. Borchers, Jr.; two sisters, Cheyenne A. VanDeGrift and Kimberly Ann McKinney; and his grandparents, Shirley Kooken and Bruce Bakken and Dan and Penny Fitch.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Delmar Titus
Delmar DeVere Titus, 88, of Bremerton died March 20, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1910, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, to Joseph and Minnie (Gates) Titus. He was raised in Iowa and Minnesota.
On June 22, 1940, he married Charlotte (Redlich) Titus in Minneapolis.
He worked at the Bremerton Searchlight and then at The Sun for 30 years without missing a day as a linotype operator, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the International Typographical Union for more than 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Stephanie Mack of Kahuku, Hawaii; one grandson, Tom Shanley of Bremerton; and one great-grandchild.
At the family's request, there will be no service. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western and Central chapter, 1422 NW 85th St., Seattle, WA 98117-4236.

Paul Orris
Paul Howard Orris, 83, of Bainbridge Island died March 21, 1999, at his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Midland, S.D., to Grover and Dessa Howard Orris.
He attended Grant High School in Portland, Ore., and graduated from Pierre High School in Pierre, S.D. While attending the University of Portland, he owned and operated a service station. He later attended Boise Junior College.
For 2 1/2 years, he was co-owner and editor of the Ontario Announcer, a daily newspaper in Ontario, Ore. He spent six years as assistant manager and head projectionist for the Idagon theater chain.
He married Genevieve Close on Aug. 7, 1944.
In 1942, he joined the Navy Reserve. He served as a naval aviator during the Philippine Liberation, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals.
After World War II, he settled in Portland, where he worked for several distributing companies as sales, advertising and promotion manager.
He was appointed assistant director of the Portland Traffic Safety Commission in 1958. Two years later, he was appointed director of the commission and served in that position for six years.
In 1967, he joined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as area director for Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. He retired in 1980.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Paul Jr., Tod and James, all of Portland, and John of Tigard, Ore.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held in Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island.
Memorials may be made to Helpline House, the Medical Aid Unit or St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, all of Bainbridge Island, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Everette Richardson
Everette F. Richardson Sr., 71, of Tacoma died March 21, 1999, in Lakewood.
He was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Mary Margaret (Morrman) Richardson and John O. Richardson. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from high school there.
He served in the Navy. He worked for Forest Lawn cemetery for three years until his retirement.
He was a member of Tacoma Elks 174 and was an ombudsman for the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil, for American Lake Veterans Hospital and for several other regional nursing homes.
His first wife of 47 years, Ellen, preceded him in death in 1995.
He is survived by his second wife, Evelyn, of Tacoma; two sons, Everette Jr. of Tacoma and Steven of San Francisco; two stepsons, Ronald Whitney of Bremerton and Ted Whitney of Puyallup; a daughter, Jacquelin Knight of Fairfield, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Dolly Englebretson of Oroville, Patricia Pouliot of Port Angeles and Carol Vlahovich of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 35 step-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 902 Market St., Tacoma. Interment icon will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodlawn Park Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103-7499.
