Elma McEachen
Elma Lucille McEachen, 84, of Seabeck died Feb. 26, 1999, in Seattle.
She was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Letcher, S.D., to Henry W. and Emma L. (Nelson) Wolff. She was raised in Redfield, S.D., graduating from Redfield High School in 1934 and from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1938.
Mrs. McEachen moved to Lone Rock in 1989, and became a resident of the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil in 1998.
She served in the Navy Nurse Corps as a lieutenant from 1943 to 1946. She was stationed at Naval Hospital Bremerton and then transferred to Hawaii, serving the remainder of World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
She worked at Whitman College in Walla Walla for 14 years as the night shift supervisor and a registered nurse in the student infirmary, retiring in 1977.
Mrs. McEachen was a member of Lone Rock Chapel, the Veterans of Foreign Wars 992 in Walla Walla, Odd Fellow Lodge and was a past noble grand of Narcissa Rebekah Lodge in Walla Walla, receiving the degree of chivalry.
Survivors include a son, Hugh McEachen of Basin City; two daughters, Pat Paulsen of Poulsbo and Mary Pitzer of Seabeck; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands and three sisters.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. March 13 at Lone Rock Chapel.

Evelyn Kruger
Evelyn Elizabeth Kruger, 64, of Port Orchard died Feb. 28, 1999, in Tacoma.
She was born Oct. 17, 1934, in Tacoma where she was raised and educated.
Mrs. Kruger was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Kappa Beta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald F. Kruger; two sisters, Kathleen Gourley of Port Orchard and Leota Lee of Tacoma; three daughters, Susan Gill of Vashon, Jenny Norman of Warrington, Ore., and Debra Hand of Port Orchard; three grandchildren, Cori Norman and Sean and Sarah Hand; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Evergreen Chapel at New Tacoma cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tacoma Funeral Home and Cemeteries.
Mary Keeler
Mary S. Keeler, 87, of Bremerton died Feb. 28, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born June 4, 1911, in Massachusetts, to Edmund and Miriam (Bawden) Stanley.
Mrs. Keeler was a registered nurse for 40 years, working primarily in Hawaii from 1940 to 1972.
Her husband, Cecil H. Keeler, preceded her in death in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Geoff of Bremerton; and a grandson, Joshua I. Keller of Bellingham.
At her request there will be no services.

Robert Phillips
Robert Alma Phillips, 71, of Bremerton died Feb. 28, 1998, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Ogden, Utah, to Harland and Florence (Rogers) Phillips. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Isabelle Phillips, in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School in 1945. He later attended Weber State College and various business colleges in Ogden.
In 1989, he married
Bettie Spencer in Twin Falls, Idaho. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1999.
Mr. Phillips was in the Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947. He was stationed in Seattle, where he played in various bands. He worked as an engineer-designer for Jetway Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1995.
On Nov. 2, 1941, he was ordained a deacon for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was ordained a teacher in the church on Dec. 13, 1942, in Ogden.
Survivors include four sons, Terry of Midvale, Utah, Gus of Bremerton, Duke of Sandy, Utah, and Aaron of Little Rock, Ark.; five daughters, Linda Zabrisky of Midvale, Utah, Alma Shelline Phillips of Ogden, Corrine Barnett of Magna, Utah, Karen Hufty of Little Rock and Rebecca Christianson of Olympia; a sister, Judy Garcia of Tucson, Ariz.; and 21 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. April 8 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ogden.
Arrangements are under the direction of American Memorial Funeral Home in Renton.

Peggy Peterson
Peggy Mae Peterson, 66, of Silverdale died March 3, 1999, in Poulsbo.
She was born April 4, 1932, in Round Up, Mont., to Martin and Nettie (Hereford) Baker.
She moved to Seattle as a child, where she attended Franklin High School.
On Dec. 18, 1954, she married
Robert A. Peterson in Seattle.
Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker. She was a member of Bremerton Elks and various camping clubs.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Robert and David, both of Bremerton, and Tom of Bainbridge Island; a daughter, Penny Betz of Bremerton; a brother, Terry Baker of Seattle; a sister, Louise Charlette of Renton; six grandchildren, Angela, Denny, Matthew, Christy, Stephen and Bryan; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by many of her brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Florence Parnell
Florence Parnell, 56, of Kingston died Feb. 25, 1999, in Seattle.
She was born July 20, 1942, in Bremerton to Arold and Mabel Nelson.
She was raised in Kingston, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1960.
On Dec. 5, 1959, she married
William L. Parnell in Kingston.
Mrs. Parnell and her husband were partners in several businesses.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kevin of Hansville; a daughter, Carolyn Offenbacker of Kingston; a brother, Frank Purich of Stanwood; and six grandchildren, Tyler and Cierra Parnell, and Marty, Aaron, Colin and Chad Offenbacker.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Kingston Christian Church.

Nels Jorgensen
Nels Alfred Jorgensen, 92, of Poulsbo died Feb. 28, 1999, at Martha and Mary Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1906, in Mo In Rana, Norway, to Cens and Elise (Nilsen) Jorgensen.
He grew up in Norway, moving to the United States in 1924. He was naturalized in 1940. In 1930, he married
Marie Maki in Poulsbo. She preceded him in death in 1964.
Mr. Jorgensen served in the Army as a chief engineer in Transport Service during the Aleutian Campaign. He worked as an engineer on boats in Alaska for many years and later worked for the Washington State Ferries, retiring after 22 years of service.
Survivors include two sons, Robert of Port Ludlow and James of Poulsbo; a sister, Milde Skjellfjord of Mo In Rana; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Ronald.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Crematory.
Arlene Martin
Arlene L. (Dorman) Martin, 75, of Bremerton died March 2, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Bremerton to Lloyd William Givens Wehmeyer and Ella (Lee) Wehmeyer. Mrs. Martin was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Fred and "Billie" Dorman following her mother's death in 1931.
She was raised in Poulsbo and moved to Bremerton in 1938. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1941.
On March 27, 1942, she married
Harold Joe Martin at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Mrs. Martin worked at the Navy Exchange at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1966 to 1978.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 57 years; three sons, Bill of Bremerton, Jim of Rossmoor, Calif., and Alan of Olympia; two brothers, John Blackwood of Everett and Michael Dorman of Tempe, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Troy and Guy Martin, both of Bremerton, and Hilary and Wyatt Martin of Rossmoor.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Forest Lawn cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Truman Blaisdell
Truman Lloyd Blaisdell, 87, of Port Orchard died Feb. 24, 1999, in Port Orchard.
He was born in 1911 in Lincoln Rock, Wash.
Mr. Blaisdell served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. Prior to retirement, he worked aboard several ships as a radio officer.
Survivors include a brother, Hinton of Spokane; and two sisters, Waranna Blum of Acampo, Calif., and Margaret Bryant of Seattle.
A private memorial service will be conducted.
James Huff Sr.
James T. Huff Sr., 72, of Bremerton died Feb. 23, 1999, at Forest Ridge Convalescent Center.
He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Port Angeles to R.W. and Jessie (Berryhill) Huff. He was raised and educated in Port Angeles.
On Oct. 27, 1946, he married
Gloria A. Young in Tacoma.
Mr. Huff served in the Navy SeaBees from 1944 to 1947. In 1946, he lived on the ice at Little America in Antarctica with Admiral Richard Byrd. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1981 after 34 years of service where he worked for PERA-CV (Planning, Estimating, Repair and Alterations of Aircraft Carriers).
He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; two sons, James Jr. of Gorst and Gary of Renton; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Belfair. Interment
will be at Tahoma National cemetery.
