Robert "Bob" Andrews, who spent a better part of his nearly 83 years as a grocer in Stanwood, death by youngest son Gordy; all of Stanwood; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren living throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Bob was died Sat., May 10, 2003. He was death by his parents, Clint and Letha Pooler; and his wife, Eva Pooler. Memorial services were held Sat., May 17, in the chapel of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood. Private Cemetery, Snohomish. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
PHYLLIS B. LITTLE

Phyllis Brindle Little was the youngest daughter of a large Alaskan pioneer family and was married him three weeks later. Tom and Phyllis settled in south Seattle, where they raised their six children and owned and operated two businesses. Together, they were a perfect match and had a wonderful life of adventure, fun, success, and great happiness. Phyllis and Tom retired in the early 1970's to Camano Island. They spent 60 wonderful years together, until Tom's death by her husband, Thomas H. Little. She is survived by her six children: Maryanne Wolanski of Kent, Joanne Zettle of Everett, Suzanne Ness of Snohomish, Carol Anne Spane of LaConner, Tom "Mike" Little of Lake Stevens, and James Little of Edmonds; her sons-in-laws Arlyn, Clyde, Don and Michael; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grand-children; and two great-great-granchildren. Services were Mon., May 19 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood. Reception to followed. LYLE D. GUDGELL
Lyle Donald Gudgell, longtime resident of Camano Island, born in Thomas, Bureau County, IL, the first son of John Edward and Anna Gudgell. Lyle was a chief machinist mate with the 38th Naval Construction Battalion during WWII and served in the Aleutian Islands and on
Tinian in the South Pacific. Lyle is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian of 63 years; son, Dennis Edward Gudgell; brother, Lester Albert Gudgell; sister, Lois Ann Miller; grandson, Matthew; granddaughter, Kristin De Guzman; and great-grandson, Antonio De Guzman. Graveside services were Fri., May 16, at Camano Lutheran died Mon., May 12, after a brief illness. Jim was born in Imperial, CA, Oct. 6, 1912, to Earnest Webb and Mallie Webb. She married Marvin Edwards in 1929, and celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in November 2002 with family and friends. With her husband, she came to a personal faith in Christ in 1933, and from that time, their lives were centered around their family and the church. She and her husband were both involved in the retail business in Redlands, CA, where they lived until 1985, when they moved to Warm Beach Senior Community in Stanwood. She actively supported foreign missions and held leadership positions in the Free Methodist Women's Missionary Society. She is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyn Nolte (Lloyd); sons Norman Edwards (Nancy) and Gary Edwards (Juelle); 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life and faith will be held at the Warm Beach Senior Community June 1. ETHEL A. COOK
Ethel A. Cook was went to be with the Lord May 16, 2003, in Mount Vernon. Ethel was baptized and confirmed at Camano Lutheran Church. She attended schools on Camano Island and in Stanwood. She moved to Mount Vernon in the 1920's and transferred to the First Lutheran Church. She was a member of the altar guild until her husband death by her parents, P.O. and Anna Ajax; husband, James; one grandson; one brother; and five sisters. She is survived by daughters: Shirley (Bob) Erickson of Sedro-Woolley and LouAnn (Bob) Miller of Bremerton; sister, Edna Mellum of Camano Island; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing will be held Thurs., May 22, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. until noon at Hawthorne Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2015 E. Blackburn, in Mount Vernon, with reception to follow. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church Fund. Arrangements under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 1825 E. DEBORAH CALDWELL
Deborah H. Caldwell born June 20, 1963, in Wanstead, Essex, England.
Deborah is survived and will be sorely missed by her husband, Douglas Caldwell, of Camano Island; her children, Tiffany and David; her mother, Hilary Thornburrow of Arlington; her father, Derek Varley of St. Clair Shores, MI; her brother, Peter Varley of Seattle; her stepfather, Henry Grundy of Arlington; her stepmother, Dorothy Varley of St. Clair Shores, MI; and her half-sister, Dorinda Varley; as well as countless friends.
Deborah will also be deeply missed by the many pet shelters in Snohomish and Skagit counties. Deborah's greatest pleasure in recent years was to act as a foster mother for litters of kittens and nurture them until they were old enough and socialized enough to be adopted into permanent homes. Until her poor health prevented her from doing so, she was employed part-time by the Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood as a pet therapist.
Deborah also formed the Snohomish County Comedy Aid Troupe, and they took their zany brand of comedy to nursing homes in the area. She was a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and also graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in MI. She was a very accomplished comedic actress and also wrote music and poetry.
Deborah lived for 10 years in Lake Stevens, where she was very active in community affairs. She served for many years as a board member of the Lake Stevens Preschool Cooperative. She is still remembered there for having created the "book swap" event at the elementary school her children attended.
Deborah was diagnosed in 1994 with brain cancer. She enjoyed a remission of the cancer from 1995 to 2002, during which time she was a virtual dynamo of creativity. The cancer returned in August of 2002, and Deborah confronted it head on and fought it until the very end with incredible courage, humor and dignity.
Memorial contributions in Deborah's name can be made to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, 18911 Kelleher Rd., Burlington, WA 98233. Services were conducted Fri., May 9 at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home.
GEORGE C. POOLER
George C. Pooler, 82, of Camano Island, born May 20, 1920, in Machias, WA, to Clint and Letha Pooler. George is survived by his daughter, Delores Bustad and husband Gordon; son, Carl Neue and wife Vesta; son, Gene Neue and wife Judy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. George was preceded in interment will be in G.A.R. born Aug. 27, 1959, and born Dec. 23, 1930, in Wilcox, AZ. She born Jan. 21, 1925, in Carthage, MO, and married and had two children, Roxann Kowalski of CA, and Jay Hartley of Spokane. He had two grandsons, Ryan and Zachery Kowalski. Hugh moved to Camano Island in 1985, and died Sun., May 4, 2003. She was passed away April 28, 2003. He was death by his beloved wife, Geraldine in 1990. He is survived by one daughter, Gerry Ann Pittman; four grandchildren, Ben Brown, Kim Brown, Bonnie Brown, and Reilly Pittman, and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Elennor Holt, and one brother, Donald Laurich. Services at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Stanwood, May 5, 11 a.m., with burial at Anderson passed away peacefully April 28, 2003, in her home in Stanwood with her husband and two daughters at her side. She born Sept. 11, 1928 to Marcello and Julia Velazquez in Vieques, Puerto Rico. She grew up in the Virgin Islands and eventually went to New York, where she met her husband, James Weikal. They moved to Washington and settled in the Arlington/Stanwood area, where they have lived for the last 36 years. She worked for Ben Bridge Jewelers for many years as a certified gemologist before retiring in 1988.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Weikal; eldest daughter, Rita Weikal (Mark Lind); son, John Weikal (Lela); daughter, Shannon Sanchez (Phillip); brothers, Juan Velazquez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Guillermo Velazquez of Hialeah, FL, and Steve Velazquez of Orlando, FL; sisters, Maria del de Cruz of Christiansted, St. Croix, Helen Garman of Miami, FL, Ines Ramsey of Florissant, MO, and Justina Ramsey of Spokane; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in passed away Fri., Aug. 22, 2003 at Mira Vista Care Center. She was married John Bratz in Oconomowoc, WI, and they moved to Mount Vernon, WA in 1935. In 1950, they moved to Stanwood, where she lived until returning to Mount Vernon in 1992. Her husband John death in 1999.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood and also Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. She was an active member in both altar societies. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and cooking. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Fred Minahan and Lois and Richard Meyer; a step-son and his wife, Bill and Ellen Wiegand, all of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Patti Omdal of Mukilteo, Ted and Judy Dubenic of Tacoma, Jane and Spencer Hegwood of Burlington, John and Karen Meyer of Everett, Tom Meyer of Mount Vernon and Marilyn and Cory Cole of Burlington; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was also preceded in Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Kern Funeral Home Wed., Aug. 27, 2 to 5 p.m., and Thurs., Aug. 20, 9 to 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to a favorite charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
