HADLEY KILLOUGH
Hadley W. Killough, of Camano Island, Born on June 19, 1928 in Cool-idge, TX, Hadley was raised in southern California and enlisted in the Air Force in 1946, serving as an aircraft electrician before subsequently receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1949.

He received a degree in chemical engineering from USC and began working for the Los Angeles Air Pollution Control District as a chemical engineer, working up to the position of senior inspector prior to retiring in 1984.

Additionally, he received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1970. He also served as a commissioner for the City of Seal Beach, CA between 1972 and 1974. Following retirement, he moved to Camano Island, where he lived until his born June 3, 1930, in Reedspoint, MT to Warren and Velda Barr. She grew up in southern Oregon and moved to Stanwood when she death by her husband Glen Lemke in 1974, and Carl Moodie Aug. 8, 2003.

Her family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Snohomish County Hospice, South Team, and to her care-giver and very special grandson, Gregory Fate for their loving care that enabled her to remain in her home.

ALICIA J. ESTVOLD
Alicia Joy Estvold, went to be with the Lord Sat., Sept. 13, 2003, due to complications from diabetes. Her love of music, creative art, and her passion for working with children will be remembered by all. As a strong Christian, she modeled the joy of the Lord in every activity, and her deep faith sustained her during her many health challenges.

passed away Sept. 9, 2003. Lois was married Edith, who gave birth to Lois's sister, Mable Buss of Hilltop Lakes, TX. Lois graduated from Sandy Union High School and later attended Seattle Pacific College. Although she first met her husband-to-be at age 8, when his family moved to Oregon, it was at Seattle Pacific in 1941, that the two began to date and fell in love. They were born, followed shortly thereafter by Gayle Edward in 1949. Both Clarene and Gayle are graduates of Seattle Pacific College.

Lois and Ed retired in 1981, moving to the Warm Beach Senior Community, where Lois continued to actively volunteer at the thrift shop and answering phones at the nursing home, both in the front office and the nurse's station. She also supervised the "collectibles" section of the popular Warm Beach Community Christmas Bazaar for many years.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of America honored Lois in 2002 for 17 years of significant service to the community. For at least three consecutive years, Lois gave in excess of 2, 000 hours annually, ranking in the top three of all Snohomish County senior volunteers.

She was well loved for her generous spirit, kind deeds and delightful sense of humor, and was lov-ingly cared for by friends and family in her home until her peaceful death by her beloved husband, Edward Bush; her brother, Alan Cathey; and her son-in-law, Robert Fleming.

She is survived by daughter Clare, who developed and administers a highly-acclaimed program at Lee College in Baytown, TX; and son Gayle, a prominent commercial bankruptcy attorney in Seattle. Other survivors include sister Mable and brother-in-law Jerry Buss; life-long friend and companion Mae Olive Gillett of Salem, OR; daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Hudgins; and grandchildren Alexandra Bush, Jonah Hudgins and his wife Amy; and great-grandchildren Julie and Marie Fleming of Edwards AFB, CA, and Lyric Otto, of Issaquah, WA.

A memorial service was held Sat., Sept. 13, at Warm Beach Manor in the Beachwood Lounge.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Rancho Betania Tool Fund or Warm Beach Manor. Checks should be made payable to Warm Beach Free Methodist Church, and should designate the intended recipient.

TECKLA S. NELSON
Teckla Sunnell Nelson, age 93, lifelong resident of Skagit County, born in Mount Vernon Jan. 28, 1910, to Henrik J. and Johanna W. Sundquist Sunnell. Teckla graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1928. She then went on to Providence School of Nursing in Seattle and worked for three years in Skagit County hospitals. In 1932 she attended Natural Beauty College in Seattle and went on to own and operate shops in Marysville, Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon.

On April 17, 1934, she passed away in 1962. She retired to Camano Island in 1975, and returned to Mount Vernon in 1988, and has lived there since.

Teckla was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was an avid painter specializing in oil painting and china painting. Golf was also one of her true passions; she was still golfing at the age of 83. Teckla is survived by two nieces, Kaaren Kneff of Simi Val-ley, CA and Lenore Groat of Bend, OR; three nephews, Dr. Vincent Erickson of New Brunswick, Can-ada, Ellwood Sunnell of ME, and Kenneth Sunnell of Bend, OR; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Services were held Mon., Sept. 8, at Kern Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Forquer of Salem Lu-theran Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

CLEO MERRILL
Cleo (Coons) Merrill, 91, born in Independence, Missouri in 1911. She was a Spokane resident for 30 years.

Mrs. Merrill moved to San Francisco at age eight with her parents and graduated from Sacramento High School in 1929. She attended the University of Washington, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority and studied journalism and play writing. She sold two of her plays for publication in anthologies and had another performed on campus. She worked for the University District Herald as a reporter.

During an internship at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, she met Clarence Dirks, a sports columnist and former captain of the UW football team. They were born.

In 1946, her husband began the "Diary of a City Bred Farmer on Puget Sound" in the PI, a daily column which featured their exploits as novice farmers, attempting to raise cows and chickens and to grow apples, holly and other crops. The couple divorced in 1952, and Mrs. Merrill moved to Spokane. She worked for KREM radio as a copy writer and briefly for KHQ TV and the Hal Bacon Advertising Agency. She did volunteer secretarial work at Bethany Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.

In 1959 she died in 1995. Since 1999 Mrs. Merrill has resided at the Cooper George Retirement Center.

Survivors include her two sons, Martin Dirks of Seattle and Michael Dirks of Spokane; as well as seven grandsons and six great-grandchildren. No services will be held at her request. A family dinner and celebration of her life will take place in Seattle at a later date.

Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Care Center or the Union Gospel Mission.

FRANCES KESSELRING
Frances Kesselring, age 66, resident of Burlington, Born Nov. 27, 1936 at Stanwood, she was a daughter of Jesse and Margaret (Staylon) Beck. Raised and educated in Stanwood, she was a 1954 graduate of Stanwood High School.

On June 1, 1954, she was passed away peacefully in her sleep from natural causes at the home of her daughter.

Lila was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She loved teaching children at church and held many positions in that capacity. She had a very generous heart, and her home was always open to family and friends.

Lila was death by her husband, Alvin Harris. She is survived by two brothers, her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and David Ellsworth; two granddaughters, Camille (Glynn) Edwards of Marysville and Shari (Hank) Werner of Leavenworth; and four great-grandchildren, with whom she had a wonderful relationship. She will be greatly missed. Services are Sat., Sept. 13, 11 a.m. at the Stanwood/Camano Island, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel.

JERRY CARTWRIGHT
Jerry Cartwright, 60, of Stanwood, born Oct. 10, 1942, in Cedar City, Utah. He is a Sedro-Woolley High School graduate, raised in Big Lake and was employed by Seven Sisters as an electrician for the past 25 years.

For the last 17 years, Jerry lived in Stanwood and was happiest working on his farm repairing fences, finishing projects, fixing tractors, working the land and playing with his cattle. In fact, he had quite a way with his livestock, much like the movie "Babe, " where he'd call to them, and they would line up to make the journey to a neighboring pasture.

Jerry's surviving family includes his son David Cartwright of Sedro-Woolley; daughters Anita Gann of Tacoma and Jeri Lynn Garcia of Pennsylvania, from his first marriage; his former wife, Barbara Cartwright of Mount Vernon, and their daughters, Kim Richmond of Mount Vernon and Kari Lee Cartwright of Seattle; sisters, Andra Gawley of New Hampshire, Mary Lynn Ayers of Oregon, Eilleen Leander of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, with one on the way; his close friend, Mike Smith; and Jerry's dog, Lucky.
He is preceded in death by his mother in 1990 and his father, July 2003. Services for Jerry will be held 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 6, in Stanwood at Freeborn Lutheran Church. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
