HELEN PINGREE
Helen Virginia Cantrell Ferguson Pingree, 75, born Sept. 17, 1928, in Billings, MT to J.M. and Gertrude Cantrell, the only daughter amid six loving brothers. She grew up and attended schools in Billings, and graduated in 1946 from Billings Senior High. She attended Linfield College for two years, then took a job in the music department at the University of Montana in Missoula.
Helen met Harold Ferguson in high school, and on Nov. 11, 1950, they were death of Harold.
After her husband's married in 1969, in Seattle, and the family moved to Redmond to begin a new era. In the late 1980's, the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease began to appear. Bill and son Steve cared for Helen with amazing patience and love for as long as they were able. Bill then researched and found the best possible home for her, and that was Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood.
Helen loved spring, flowers and Christmas. Her smile lit up every room. Even after she was no longer able to recognize people, we all felt a visit was a success when she smiled. Helen always expected the best from people and usually got it. She was extremely proud of all her children for accomplishments large and small.
We will all miss her. It helps to know that she is in a place where her mind is whole and she can recognize those who love her. The family is very grateful to all the staff at Josephine Sunset Home who cared for our mother. Each one always showed her kindness and genuine caring. We appreciate and thank you all.
Memorial donations may be made to Josephine Sunset Home, Stanwood, your local Alzheimer's organization, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
