GERALDINE MAGELSSEN
Geraldine O. Magelssen, 94, of the Stanwood-Camano Island area, died Sat., June 26, 2004 in Stanwood. Funeral service will be announced next week by Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

CLYDE D. KLATT
Clyde Dean Klatt, 67, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday morning, June 24, 2004, at his home in Stanwood.

Clyde was born Aug. 9, 1936 in Everett, to Armos and Edna Klatt. He was the youngest of six children. Clyde married Beverley Tepley Oct. 24, 1964 and established residence in Warm Beach. For the past 19 years, they have lived in Stanwood. Some of Clydes favorite hobbies were fishing with his son, camping, bowling and tending to his flowerbeds. Clyde was a good man. He enjoyed helping others and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed him.

He is survived by his wife, Beverley, of 39 years; daughter, Kathy McMurray and husband Damon, and their two children, Christopher and Chelsie, of Anchor Point, AK; daughter, Sharon Henry and husband Steve and their two children, Sean and Ashley, of Wheatridge, CO; a son, Timothy Klatt, of Stanwood; one sister, Jean Fitzpatrick, of Arlington; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. A memorial service was held 5 p.m., Sun., June 27, at Anchor of Hope Community Church, Sons of Norway Bldg., Stanwood, with a fellowship luncheon 1 p.m., Mon., June 28, at American Legion Post 92, Stanwood. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

ALBIN L. OLSON
Albin Leander Olson, 90, long-time resident of Stanwood, passed away June 21, 2004 in Nespelem, WA. He was born to Erick and Carolina Olson, Dec. 2, 1913, in Quincy, WA. He resided on the farm in Stanwood for most of his life until recently and has lived in Elmer City, WA for the past eight months. He was married to Anna C. Fiske Oct. 14, 1980, in Reno, NV. He is survived by many relatives and friends. Graveside service was held June 26, at 1 p.m. at Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

HELEN V. REYMORE
Helen Viola Sundberg Reymore, the most devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother imaginable, passed away peacefully at Group Health Hospital in Redmond June 18, 2004. Helen just celebrated her 85th birthday with her family on May 28. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Helen moved to Seattle in 1923, where she graduated from Broadway High School. She went on to work as a secretary at The Seattle Yacht Club and then a legal secretary at Houghton, Coughlin and Cluck. She met Russell J. Reymore at a YWCA social. They were married Dec. 31, 1942, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

Her heart was full of unconditional love. She had a way of making those around her feel special, loved, important and appreciated. Her immediate and extended family, her neighbors, (the incredible Linden Avenue Recreation Association), her many life-long friends and her "Sewing Club" were just some of the people touched by her warm, open, loving manner. She had smiling eyes and a kind word for everyone she encountered. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage.

Helen and her family enjoyed many summers at their family retreats at Warm Beach and Flowing Lake. She was a fantastic cook, and everyone was always invited over for Sunday dinners. She loved trying new recipes, and friends often stopped by to try them out with a cup of coffee. She adored her husband and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by Russ, her husband of 58 years; and her younger sister, Elsie Nielsen. She is survived by her sister, Betty Kerton; her six children, Doug Reymore (Lourdes), Larry Reymore (Donna Cowles), Robin Reymore, Beth Warrick (Don), Rosalie Daly (Craig), Jeanie Amundson (Sid), 15 grandchildren, David Reymore (Patsy), Rebecca and Raelene Reymore, Karma Stark (Ted), Tyler Reymore, John Higgins (Kristia), Reed Warrick (Cricket), Russ Warrick, Taryn, Elise, Nolan and Lame Daly and Lauren, Kaylie and Megan Amundson; three great-grandchildren Jiv and Syam Reymore and Parris Stark; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family is planning an open house in celebration of her life July 10, 2-5 p.m., at their family cabin at Warm Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

WALT SIMONSON
Walt Simonson, 90, passed away June 24, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Everett after a short illness.

Walt was born March 4, 1914 in Stanwood, where he lived until he attended Edison Business College in Seattle. He worked for Snohomish County PUD for over 30 years and lived in Everett for 70 years. He was a long-time member of the Elks and the Stanwood Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by Eleanor, his wife of 58 years; his brothers, Chris, Charlie, and Albert (Kelly) Simonson; and sisters, Emma Hedberg and Anna Hatch.

Walt was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved gardening and woodworking and was a great storyteller. He especially loved to spend time with family and friends at his beach house on Camano Island. His two granddaughters were his pride and joy.
Walt is survived by his daughter, Susan, and her husband David Hatchel of Bothell; his granddaughters, Erica and Stephanie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home in Everett Mon., June 28, 1 p.m. A graveside service followed. The family asks that remembrances be made to the Stanwood Historical Society or a charity of your choice.

TORREY L. DRINGMAN
Torrey Lee Dringman, age 43, given to our Lord June 17, 2004. Son of Glenn and Inga Dringman of Bellevue.

He was married to Laura Kniesly July 30, 1983, residing in the Stanwood area since 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; and sons, Taylor (14) and Trevor (12); his father and mother, Glenn and Inga; and brother, Kalen Dringman. Torrey attended the Bellevue school system at Newport High School, Class of ‘79 where he excelled in football and wrestling and was very active in scouting, attaining Eagle Scout. He attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, where law and justice courses prepared him for his career in law enforcement. He was a respected deputy sheriff with Snohomish County, where he earned highest praises from peers for his honesty, hard work, and outstanding character. He was a member of the Cedarhome Baptist Church in Stanwood.

Scouting was a way of life for he and his family, achieving the adult Silver Beaver Award. His other loves were backpacking, camping with his family, bicycling, and his annual hunting trek. He was truly an outstanding father and mentor to many. He will leave a large void in society. Memorial services will be held Wed., June 23, 2 p.m. at Gold Creek Community Church, 4326 148th St. SE, Mill Creek, WA. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Mt. Baker Council, Everett, WA, or a scholarship fund for his sons, Taylor and Trevor.

MARIAN J. GUSTAFSON
Marian Josephine Gustafson died peacefully at the age of 71 Sat., June 19, 2004, in Stanwood. She was born March 11, 1933 in Arlington. She has resided in Washington all her life. Marian was a successful businesswoman who, over the years, owned and operated Leonard’s Tavern, 7 Lakes Tavern, and the Hilltop Drive-In in Everett. She retired several years ago. Marian enjoyed collecting clowns. She loved to do things for her fam-ily and friends. She also enjoyed outdoors, fishing, mushrooming, garage sales, cooking, painting and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Evelyn Fingarson and her husband Ray Gustafson. She leaves behind one brother, Donald Figarson; four sisters, Sally Lindberg, June Becktell, Doris Smith and Opal Lindborg; also two daughters and sons-in-law, Maray and Mike Tarsi and Ray and Danny Castano; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of the Stan-wood area. Memorial service will be held Thurs., June 24, 1 p.m., at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, 7009- 265th St. NW, Suite 104 A, Stanwood (629-2915), with Pastor Michael Tarsi officiating. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband’s grave at Fir-Conway Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

WARREN H. SMYTH
Warren H. Smyth, 83, of Machesney Park, IL passed away at 3:10 p.m. June 2, 2004, in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A Machesney Park resident since 2001, coming here from Stanwood, He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Glynrich, Delaware. He married Jeanne A. Lancaster May 1, 1958.

Warren was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. His most significant assignment was aboard the USS Frontier and the naval submarine base in Pearl Harbor. He was a recruit trainer in San Diego. He also, worked for the Guam Power Authority in Agana, Guam, General Dynamics, Rocketdyne, and Boeing. Warren was a member of the VFW, a licensed pilot and loved to fly, enjoyed gardening, a faithful Seattle Seahawk fan, and most of all, he was a man who loved his family immensely, and will truly be missed by all. Survivors include his wife Jeanne of 46 years; daughters, Sharon Gardener of Snohomish, WA, and Lana Phalen of Roscoe, IL; and four grandchildren, Brenda Whistler, James Gardener, Michael and Christopher Zinanni. At Warren's request, there was no service, and arrangements were made by McCorkle Funeral Home in Rockton, IL.

EMILY TUTLYS
Emily "Nana" Tutlys passed away June 14, 2004, in Marysville. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Roma in 2001. Emily was born in Naumiestis, Lithuania Feb. 11, 1911, at the family mill. She apprenticed for six years at a dressmaking and tayloring school and practiced that trade for the next 60 years. During WWII, the family fled the Soviet occupation, spending the next four years in Germany living in displaced persons camps. Here, she started weaving Lithuanian national costumes, and through those efforts, received sponsorship for the family to enter the U.S.

In 1980, after a residence of 30 years in Chicago, she moved to live with her daughter in Arlington to help her pick blueberries and fight with the bluejays for hazelnuts. In 1994 she received of the Governor's Ethnic Heritage Award presented by Mike Lowry. She also had an exhibit of her weavings at the University of Washington. Her correspondence with fellow WWII Lithuanian Diaspora survivors was worldwide throughout her long years. She is survived by her daughters, Dalia Mrowiec of Arlington and Gabrielle Kirch of New Kingston, NY; grandchildren, Heather Mrowiec of Scottsdale, AZ and Steve Mrowiec of Lynnwood; the love of her life, great-grandson, Leaf Mrowiec of Everett; and numerous friends and fellow Lithuanians in Washington State and throughout the world.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 19 at 11 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, with burial following at Anderson Cemetery. A reception to celebrate her life will follow at the family home. The family wishes to thank the Marysville Care Center for the wonderful care they gave Emily the last three years of her life. Memorials may be made to Daughters of Lithuania or a charity of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

CODY S. CALAVAN
11-14-84 to 5-29-04
Cody Shea Calavan, our courageous and remarkable son, grandson, and brother, was killed Sat., May 29 in a bombing just south of Baghdad, Iraq, while defending this nation in the war on terror. We will miss his quick wit, his laughter, and the joy he brought to every life he touched.

Pfc. Cody Shea Calavan has journeyed home to be with his grandparents, Art and Jean Thorsen; his mother, Kathy Jean Calavan; and his little brother, Joey Jay Calavan.Here, loving him always, are his father, David Calavan; stepmother, Pamela Calavan; sister, Kalee Calavan Craig; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Kristi Craig; grandparents, Ken and Ruth, Puttkamer and Marian Craig; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

We are very proud of Cody and his dedication of service to our country as a Marine. We are thankful for the 19 years he spent with us, and for the memories and laughter he filled our lives with. Cody loved giving gifts, spending time with friends and family, playing video games, skiing, water sports, and going to the movies. Cody gave back to his family infinitely more than he took, and he will always hold a special place in our hearts.

The outpouring of love and support from the community has meant so much to all of the family. Thanks so much to everyone who offered their time, their support, and their condolences. We'd also like to thank all of you who have prayed for our family. Your prayers have been felt through the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit, and we are forever touched by your kindness.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Cody's life Tues., June 15, 11 a.m., at New Life Center Foursquare Church, 6830 Highland Dr., Everett, WA. All are welcome to attend. Semper Fi. God bless our Marines.

LANE S. LANGSJOEN
Lane S. Langsjoen, age 86, died June 11, 2004 in Arlington. He lived his entire life in the Silvana and Arlington area.

Lane was born Jan. 28, 1918, to Henry and Dora Langsjoen, Stillaguamish pioneers.

He is survived by Lois, his best friend and wife of 59 years; daughter, Joanne, and son-in-law, John Mattson; sisters-in-law, Betty Bergerson of Crestline, CA, Joan Walen of Graham, WA, and Mary Langsjoen of Arlington; and extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Irvine Langsjoen; and sister, Myrtle Stensaa.

Lane was a dairy farmer, a logger and was shop foreman for Snohomish County Road District #1 at the time of his retirement.

He was active in forming the Silvana Fire Department and was a volunteer fireman. He also maintained the Silvana Water Co. for many years.

Lane was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling in their motorhome. The many trips to Alaska and time spent at the cabin in Winthrop these last years were very special to him. Memorials may be made to the Silvana Fire Department or to a charity of your choice.

At his request, no services will be held. Burial in Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
