JAMES E. LYNN, SR.

James (Jim) E. Lynn, Sr. of Stanwood/Camano Island died Thurs., Jan. 16, 2003, of a massive heart attack following major surgery.
Jim was born July 6, 1928 in Seattle, where he grew up and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. Jim joined the Army when he was 18 years old and was a World War II, Korean, and a Vietnam/Southeast Asia veteran, where he retired as a master sergeant after serving 22 years. Jim's last three years in the Army were spent as a chief advisor in Thailand for the Joint U.S. Military Group South East Asia.
Jim married his wife Beverly Lynn in 1972. He went to work for Camwood Realty, where he got his brokers license and worked for several years, then retired for a second time. He then went into home repairs with his brother Bud Lynn for several years, then retired for a third time. Jim then formed a partnership with his long-time friend, Steve Hampton and Pat Patterson, called Pegasus Imaging Company, where he worked until his passing.
Jim loved to travel, spend time with his children and grandchildren, family and friends. When Jim was still in high school, he bought a lot on Camano Island next to his parents’ property and built a cabin on it. Jim had four children with his first wife Helen; then remarried and gained two step-children. Jim was known as a loving, caring man ("The Gentle Giant").
Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly Lynn; brother, Joel (Bud) Lynn and wife Shirley (Tony) Lynn; sister, Jean Laws; his son, James E. Lynn, Jr. and his wife Teri Lynn; his daughters, Diana D. Norton, Jeanien J. Bickerstaff and husband Dale R. Bickerstaff, Thais A. Svetich and husband Donald J. Svetich; stepson, Brent A. Watts; stepdaughter, Krista R. Wildman and husband Jud A. Wildman; 12 grandchildren, James R. Start, Miranda M. Lynn, Jenniffer M. Lynn, Stephanie N. Lynn, Russel L. Norton, Jr., Jessica M. Norton, Kennith R. Bickerstaff, Helena M. Bickerstaff, Barbara D. Svetich, Tyson J. Svetich, Jesse A. Wildman, Juddie R. Wildman; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandson, Juddie R. Wildman; his parents, Robert J. Lynn and Harriet Lynn Maclaughlin; and first wife, Helen M. Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. A memorial service was held Jan. 25, at Camano Lutheran Church.
PATRICIA R. RIGGS
Patricia R. "Patti" Riggs, longtime resident of Snohomish County, passed away at her home in Mill Creek Thurs., Jan. 23, 2003, at the age of 50 years.
She was born Oct. 16, 1952, in Cape Girardeau, MO, the daughter of Claude and Opal Young Riggs. Patti grew up in the Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon areas, attending school in Mount Vernon, until moving to Snohomish County 36 years ago. She worked as a confidential secretary for the Department of Social & Health Services in Everett for the past five years, and she will be
greatly missed by her co-workers.
Patti loved to collect pictures and angels and visit with family and friends, especially visiting Susie's mountain. She enjoyed flowers, nature, and the outdoors, and she especially loved to laugh and enjoy life.
Patti is survived by her daughters, Dawn Eastman and Claudia Kieselhorst, both of Mill Creek; a son, Troy Eidsmess and his wife Turi of Anacortes; five grandchildren, Michael and Ashley Eldred, Johnnathon Frey, and Caleb and Clarissa Eastman; two sisters, Sue and her husband, Les Williams of Sedro-Woolley, and Marjorie and her husband Jeff Haws of Arlington; a brother, Jerry and his wife, Dori Riggs of Stanwood; aunt and uncle, Lloyd and Shirley Young, and aunt, Ruth Young, all of Scott City, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be Tues., Jan. 28, 2 p.m., at Lemley Chapel, with pastor David Browning of Christ The King Church in Mount Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Eagles, located at the corner of Metcalf and Warner. Memorials are suggested to the Patti Riggs Benefit Fund, c/o Washington Mutual Bank at any branch.

BERNARD V. BUCK
Bernard Vern Buck was born in Smith Center, KS Nov. 14, 1928. He died at home in Seattle, Jan. 14, 2003, after a courageous, lengthy battle with cancer.
He is survived by Janet, his wife of 46 years; two daughters, Melanie (Matthew) Whitehead of Shoreline, and Loralee (Michael) McMackin of San Jose, CA; three granddaughters, Jessica and Melissa Whitehead and Taylor McMackin; siblings, Virginia (Cliff) Robertson of Russell, KS, Marilee (Marv) McLaughlin of Medical Lake, Von (Judy) Buck of Colfax, Bob (Kerry) Buck of Yakima, and Betty (Dave) Ayres of Bellevue.
Bernie was graduated from Seattle Pacific College (University) in 1951. After graduation, he spent two years as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He taught at Los Angeles Pacific High School and College from 1953-1957, Seattle Pacific College (Univ.) from 1957-1964, and Shoreline Community College from 1964-1989.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m., Tues., Jan. 21 at First Free Methodist Church, 3200 3rd Ave. West, in Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the World Missions Fund of the Free Methodist Church or Warm Beach Camp in Stanwood. His family expresses their gratitude to his Group Health Hospice team for the loving care he received, and especially for the many hours of compassionate concern given by his hospice nurse, Liz Huebner.
ROBERT A. McGUIRE
Robert A. McGuire went to be with the Lord Mon., Jan. 13, 2003.
Robert was born Jan. 23, 1930, to Frank and Ethel McGuire in Yakima, WA. He lived the majority of his life in Snohomish County. Robert and his wife Gladys were married for 52 years and were members of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Arlington. During those years, Robert was a dairy farmer in Silvana, and was an independent long-haul trucker. Robert was a craftsman and displayed many of his woodworking craft items at the fairs.
Robert is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughters, Marge Southern of Arlington, Colleen and husband David James of Seattle; and son, Rick and wife Cathy of Visalia, CA; sister, Mary McGuire of Seattle; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Sat., Jan. 18, 1 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Arlington. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
JENNIE A. MOSES
Former Stanwood resident Jennie A. Moses, 94, passed away Jan. 14, 2003, at a care center in Mount Vernon.
She was born Sept. 1, 1908, on Camano Island to John and Josephine Petersen. She was married to Elmer Johonson, who preceded her in death. In 1949 she married Clyde F. Moses. She was a member of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs through the Fir Conway Chapter, the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. Auxiliary #1561 and Stanwood Eagles #3041.
She is survived by her two sisters, Agnes Wagness of Salem, OR, and Inga Schultzick of Mountlake Terrace, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 1992; two sisters, Elvina Lund and Helen Reese.
A special thank you and love to Darlene Wilson, her caregiver, who made the last three years of her life so rewarding with her constant joyful companionship.

HANSINE B. OIEN
Hansine B. Oien, 89, went to be with the Lord Jan. 13, 2003.
She was formerly of Everett. She was born April 28, 1913, in Arlington, the daughter of Erik and Anna Oien. She resided at Josephine Sunset Home for 16 months.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1932. She worked at the courthouse in Everett and was a real estate broker at Roy Burkeland Reality for 20 years.
She is survived by her sister, Lillian and Bob Sorensen of Laurel, WA; her brother, Gus T. Oien of Fallbrook, CA; five nephews and their families: Robert E. and Arelene Sorenson, Jim and Chris Sorenson, Neil Sorenson, Ted E. and Jean Oien, Dick and Lynette Oien.
Thank you to the staff at Merrill Gardens-Garden House and Josephine Sunset Home in their caring for our loved one. MARGARET STANDLEY
Margaret Bennett Standley, of Camano Island, died Jan. 1, 2003. She leaves behind her husband, Ray; daughter, Desiree Fischer of Texas City, TX; and sons, John Steven, Mescalero, NM, and Charles Chadrick, Jr., of Corpus Christi, TX; her sister, Madelyn Poston; five brothers, Luther Bennett, Joe Bennett, John Bennett, Paul Bennett, Jr., and James Bennett; and six grandchildren.
A gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
FRANKLIN D. JONES
Franklin D. "Butch" Jones, 65, of Camano Island, died Sat., Jan. 11, 2003, at his home on Camano Island following brief illness with leukemia. He was born Jan. 30, 1937 in Wellington, KS, the youngest of 10 children born to Gus A. and Mattie Jones. He grew up in the Wellington area and graduated from Wellington High School. Frank went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. He met and married Gwendolyn Hardiman June 13, 1955. He attended Wichita State College and the Harvard Business School.
In 1957 Frank went to work for the Boeing Co. in Wichita, KS, and in 1966, they moved to Bellevue, where he continued to work for Boeing. During their years in Bellevue, Frank was very active in coaching Little League and attending games. He was also an avid golfer and played on the Boeing league.
Frank retired from the Boeing Company in 1996, where he was the payroll manager for many years. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Camano Island, where he has stayed active in sports by watching, supporting and playing. He was a member of Camano Country Club and Camaloch Men’s Golf Club.
Frank will be remembered for being a kind and caring husband, father and friend. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Gwen of Camano Island; sons Steve A. and wife Mary Jones of Bellevue, Scott M. and Carol Jones of Marysville and Martin B. and wife Stacy Jones of Kent; six brothers and sisters; brother-in-law Miles Hardiman of Aurora, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Sat., Jan. 18, in the chapel of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood. Inurnment will be held in Wellington, KS Cemetery, next to family members. Contributions may be made to Swedish Cancer Institute (for leukemia research), American Cancer Society, or Skagit Hospice. EDYTHE M. DREILING

Edythe Maxine Dreiling, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died in San Diego, following a brief illness.
Her husband of nearly 61 years predeceased her. After retirement, Edie and "Buck" lived at Sunset Beach on Camano Island. She is survived by her children, Sandra Nolte, Dr. Charles E. Dreiling (Penny) and Tom Dreiling (Claudia); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Edie and "Buck" traveled the world, fulfilled all their dreams and will be residing together forever in Verdi, Nevada, where they have agreed to "slip away and gamble all night" in nearby Reno.
CHARLES GLASPY, SR.
Charles "Charlie" W. Glaspy, Sr., 78, passed away suddenly Dec. 21, 2002, while visiting family in Virginia.
Charlie was born Dec. 2, 1924, in McCracken, KS, the youngest of four children. Raised in Canyon City, CO, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1941, graduating from boot camp just prior to WWII. He served in Guadalcanal and other Pacific islands and returned home in 1944. He was involved in the Korean Conflict in 1950-51.
He met his wife Fran while they were both stationed in Jacksonville, FL. They married on June 20, 1954, and had two sons, Charlie, Jr. and Michael. They were later transferred to California and Hawaii. He served in Vietnam in 1965-66. He retired from the Marines after 24 years in 1967.
Charlie and his sons became active in the Boy Scouts, where he served eight years as scout master and was awarded Scout Master of the Year in 1973. He later retired after 16 years from Golden West Community College in S. California, and they moved to Camano Island in 1987.
After retirement, Charlie was a member of the Sons of Norway lodge, was president of his community water association for 14 years, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where he served as usher captain for several years.
Charlie was a caring, lovable and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved camping, fishing, and his sons' sports activities. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed greatly.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary; his sisters June and Jane; and his grandson Michael II. He is survived by his wife Fran of 48 years; his brother Daryl Glaspy; his daughter Charlene Thompson; his sons Charlie, Jr., and Michael; his nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
