Norma Ruth Clark
Norma Ruth (Beck) Clark died on May 4, 2009 at Sun Tower Retirement Home after an extended illness as a result from surgery.
She was the youngest of five children born in Yakima to John D. and Dora (Wise) Beck on February 22, 1932. She grew up on her parents’ farm near Naches.
Soon after graduating from Naches High School in 1950, she married her High School sweetheart Stanley Blaine Clark on July 29, 1950. They lived in Selah for over 40 years, where she worked in the fruit industry. She was an active Grange member for many years and enjoyed R.V.’ing with the Grange Camper Club, as well as with her family. She especially enjoyed playing her clarinet and saxophone in “Our Band” at the Yakima Senior Center, where she also served on the board. She was a past member of the “Daughters of the Pioneers”. She moved to Sun Tower in 2006.
She is survived by her brother Lawrence (Mary) Beck of Spokane; sister Elaine Munzer of California; daughters Kathy (Carl) Tilley of Wapato and Gloria (Paul) Schubert of Indiana; grandchildren Christine (Josh) King, Danielle (Jim) Allen, Gabriel Wilder, Lisa Tilley, Kimberly Schubert, Scott Schubert, Emily Tilley (Josh), Kalvin Tilley and Brian Schubert, and great-grandchildren Dylan, Blaine, Steven, Dean, Blake and Alex. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers John A. Beck and Stanley Beck, and grandson Kaylen Tllley.
At her request there will be no services.
Mona Elizabeth Cunningham
On the morning of May 5, 2009, two days after turning 87, Mona Elizabeth Cunningham was called to join our Heavenly Father and loved ones passed.
Mona was born in Finch Hatton in Queensland, Australia on May 3, 1922, the daughter of Ernest and Charlotte Parry. She was raised on a sugar cane farm in Australia before coming to the U.S. as a war bride in 1944. She was a caring, hard-working, determined mother of three before meeting the love of her life in Yakima in the early 1960’s. Though their time together was short, their legacy and love lives on in their child and grandchildren. Mona loved gardening, sewing, writing and painting. She took pride in her friendships, family and her beautiful flowers.
Mona is survived by her sister Gwen Nichols and family in Australia; children Betty Daurelle and husband Bryan Daurelle (stationed in Iraq); son Dan Turner and family, all of Yakima; grandchildren Chris Therkelsen, Monica Grumblatt, Nathan and Jesse Daurelle, Marie Ned, Tina Munoz and James Turner all of Yakima, Charlotte Turner of Des Moines, Wendy Palin of Tacoma, Allen Palin of Spokane, Amanda, Andrew and Jason Turner of Georgia. She was also blessed with many great and great-great grandchildren and many close friends she considered her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Ernest “James” Turner, daughter Beverly Ned and sister Mavis Hadley.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday May 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights.

YAKIMA - Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Tracy, his children - Don (Lillie), Linda (Brad), Stan (JoAnn), grandchildren - Kelli, Alison (Carl), Chad, Todd, Dylan, Kaitlyn, and great-grandchildren: Zack, Lexie, Brooklyn and one on the way.
Living through a life of 14 siblings, active military duty, constantly working hard at numerous jobs including Sears Lumber, then retiring at age 60 from Oxarc, enjoying 19 years of the retired life, embracing his family and traveling across the country.
Self taught in his many abilities, throughout his life, too strong and too proud to ever ask for assistance. Proving his self taught perfection with the strength of the house he built for his son, Don, impressing the Yakima Valley.
The men he'd met, even if only for a moment, would have the most vivid memories and unique experiences, with this one-of-a-kind man.
Among the many road-trips, he twice traveled back home to West Rutland, Vermont, only reciprocated by his younger sister, "Busy Bobko" Sophie Pietrzak. His road adventures culminating in his life long ambition and fascination with the free, open land of Homer, Alaska, which he drove to twice, the second trip with his good friends Bob and Audrey Lee. He was thrilled to be joined by his two boys Donny and Stanley, along with two of his grandchildren Alison and Chaddy. Halibut fishing on the open ocean, gave him a satisfaction that few men get to feel.
The 1,000's of miles and 100's of roads he crossed through each state, is proof of his abilities and ambition. Each trip, always making sure to pass through Nevada, to get those good prices on his families Liquid Pleasures.
Fishing and hunting thrilled him throughout his life, having the fondest memories with his best fishing buddies Harvey Maygra, Reuben Weishaar and Tony Moser.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank and his mother, Bernice. His brothers, Billy and Steve. His sisters, Francis, Theresa and Genevieve. Most notably his first born child, Paulie, who has been waiting many years to see his dad again.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful personnel at Memorial's Emergency Room, as well as the Intensive Care Unit - especially: Linda, Pam, Robin, Joe (ER), Sheila, Sarah and Dr. "U" for their compassion, respect and great care they all gave our Dad.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima. Private Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Laurie M. Williams
Laurie M. Williams, 37, of Bellingham, Wash., died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Sunnyside Community Hospital. Mrs. Williams was born in Tacoma and had worked in an EMT clinic in Bellingham.
Survivors include her parents, Steve and Linda Hartshorn of Grandview; a son, Jorden Williams, and a daughter, Britney Williams, both of Bellingham.
Viewing will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 8 at the Grandview Methodist Church on Ash Street. Burial will follow in the Grandview City Cemetery.
Helen Katherine Sanders
SELAH - Helen Katherine Sanders passed away in Selah on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. She was born in Yakima, WA, on October 23, 1916, to Fred and Hilda (Johnson) Hefty. She lived in Yakima until she was 10 when her mother passed away. She then lived in New Glarus, Wisconsin, with her aunt's family and her grandmother. She came back to live in the Naches area after her dad remarried. Her stepmother Etta passed away a couple of years later. She married John W. Sanders on June 27, 1938. They raised their four children on their fruit ranch on South Naches Road until moving to Naches.
She was a homemaker and worked for several years as an apple sorter in Naches and Gleed retiring in 1986. She lived in the Naches area until moving to assisted living at Wynwood in June 2007 and then to Riverview Manor in July 2008.
She had a love of the mountains going back to her childhood when her parents had a cabin on Chinook Pass. Going for rides in the mountains was a lifelong pleasure for her. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant brother. She is survived by sons John Sanders of Everett, Wayne Sanders of Naches, and daughters Mary (Harold) Frederickson of Toppenish, and Dorothy (Dale) Nordberg of Naches Heights, 6 grandchildren, Mike, Renee, and Brian Frederickson, Chad (Carrie), Derrick (Meagan McFadden), and Mark Nordberg, and 2 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Nordberg.
The family would like to thank everyone at Riverview Manor for their compassionate care. At her request, there will be no funeral. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Lorraine Ream
Lorraine Ream of Yakima passed away on May 7th, 2009 at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Lorraine was born April 13th, 1931 in Wallowa, Oregon, the second daughter of Elsie and Gunnar Carlson. Her love for animals began early in her life on the farms which she was raised.
The family moved to Yakima in 1946 where she met and married Donald Ream in 1947. Lorraine and Don recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in March 2009.
Lorraine was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised four children while working at Snyder's Bakery where she retired after 33 years.
Lorraine was an excellent cook, enjoying her cookbooks and trying new recipes. She enjoyed her trips to casinos, music, TV and dining out, making friends with everyone she met. She enjoyed attending monthly luncheons with the Pearl Harbor survivors who had adopted her as a member. She also attended her Wallowa class reunions, always keeping in touch with her classmates over the years as they all raised their families.
Lorraine never missed a birthday or holiday, sending her smiles and love in every card across the miles. She also loved emailing friends and family, keeping in touch, sharing events, news, and laughs to those both near and far.
Family gatherings held a special place in her heart. The joy and laughter of being surrounded by everyone she loved, and all those who loved her, gave her great happiness.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her mother, father, and older sister Marget, whom she loved and cared for dearly, visiting her in Oregon often.
Lorraine is survived by her loving family: husband, Don; son, Jim (Deborah) Ream of Pacific Grove, California; daughter, Sandy Ream of Yakima; daughter, Pattie (Kris) Abhold of Yakima; son, Ken (Guyila) Ream of Yakima; six grandchildren: Dawn, Leanne, Kenny, Brie, Lee, Courtney, and two great-grandsons: Cody and Dylan.
Lorraine will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you, and whispered 'Come to me.' With tearful eyes we watched you, we watched you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best."

Max Rutger
Max Madsen Rutger, 70, of Selah, passed away on April 2, 2009 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1939 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Edward and Mildred (Jacobson) Rutger. He was a school bus driver.
He is survived by his wife Renate Rutger of Selah, his son Max Michael Rutger, Jr. (Katie) of Yakima, daughter Anna Maria Spence (Joe) of Selah, and by three Grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 9, 2009 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
