Dale Allan Leach
YAKIMA - Dale Allan Leach, 72, of Yakima, died on Sunday, September 16, 2007, in Yakima Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Yakima on December 11, 1934 to Jack and Mildred Leach.
He graduated from Highland High School where he excelled in sports. Dale was captain of the football team as well as the recipient of awards for his prowess in track and field. Dale was extremely talented in the mechanical arts. He could "fix" anything and considered any project incomplete until it was finished perfectly. He was a living repudiation of the 8-hour day, 40 hour week standard. He worked 18 hours or more every day of the week, and was available 24 hours.
In his younger days Dale owned and operated his own businesses in California in construction and mining. In 1967, Floyd Paxton, the founder of Kwik Lok Corporation, recognizing Dale's many talents, invited him to join the corporation. Dale worked for Kwik Lok or its subsidiary Northwest Farms for more than 40 years. In later years, in partnership with his wife Eunice, he became a well-known thoroughbred horse breeder winning awards and wide recognition in that industry.
In 1973 he married Eunice Overdorf of Yakima. Thus began a decades-long successful marriage and business partnership. In addition to his wife, Eunice, he is survived by four children; Lori Silva of Las Vegas; Kerry Schulte of Yakima; Tara Leach-Teeples of Atwater, California, and Kannon Leach of Yakima. Also surviving is one brother, Clyde Leach of Spokane, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Family, friends and co-workers will greatly miss the sometimes gruff, plain-spoken horseman with a soft heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society Shelter, 2405 W. Birchfield Rd, Yakima, WA 98902.
At Dale's request no services will be held, although all of his friends and co-workers are invited to attend an informal celebration of his life at the family residence, 2712 So. 16th Avenue, Yakima, from 12 - 9 pm, Friday, September 21, 2007.
