Jamie Lorene Jessen
Jamie Lorene Jessen, 43, of Yakima died Wednesday, August 1, 2007.
Mrs. Jessen was born in Cody, Wyo. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Frisk of Yakima; and a sister, Dawn Groshong of Everett, Wash.
Memorial services will be Sunday at noon at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Lavina Ellen (Cyr) Ash
Lavina Ellen (Cyr) Ash, a long-time resident of Yakima, became ill and passed away at her home on July 27, 2007 at the age of 74.
Lavina was born on February 16, 1933 to William and Margaret Cyr. She attended Yakima High School and in 1956 married William Ash, raising two children, Debra and Kris. She retired after working more than 20 years at Selah School. She enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers, and loved all auto racing!
Lavina is survived by her two children Debra Sides (Ash) and Kris Ash; two brothers, Robert (Susie) and Kenneth (Kay) Cyr; grandchildren Randy (Heather) Sides, Kandy Sides, Steven, Sherry, Kevin and Krystal Ash; great-grandchildren Garrett and Evan Sides and Ryker Sides; and a great-great grandchild, Alexis McCoy; and two special friends, Jerry and Lendie Nichols, all of Yakima.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.
Howard Edward Rescorla Jr.
Howard Edward Rescorla Jr., 68, of Toppenish died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in Yakima.
Mr. Rescorla was born in Miscieta, Colo., and served in the Navy. He worked as a mechanic for Green Acres Farm in Harrah, and then worked at Evergreen Machine and Fabrication in Yakima.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Rescorla; a son, Howard Rescorla III of Toppenish; a stepson, Robert McDowell of Toppenish; two daughters, Twyla Peterson of Yakima and Misty Gonzalez of Lynnwood, Wash.; two stepdaughters, April Ross of Zillah and Angela Culley of Yakima; two brothers, Larry Rescorla of Coos Bay, Ore., and James Rescorla of Toppenish; two sisters, Netty Browning of Goldendale and Joan Schneider of Zillah; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Toppenish Eagles.

Donna Brush
YAKIMA – Donna Brush, 83, of Yakima, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at home.
Donna was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Toppenish to I.C. and Dorothy (Crabtree) Benz. She worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. Max Bocheck, retiring in 1993. She was a lifetime resident of the Yakima Valley.
Donna enjoyed playing golf and gardening. She planted her petunias every Mother’s Day. She will be remembered for her great love and compassion for her family.
She is survived by a son, Scott Brush of Union City, CA and one grandchild.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Toppenish.
Cory Harrington
Cory Harrington was born in Yakima Washington, December, 9th, 1957 and went to be with his Lord, April, 13th, 2008.
His family wishes to thank all of the friends and loved ones who have shown their love and support during Cory’s battle with cancer. Cory’s memory will carry on in many. A special thanks to all the caregivers and doctors that helped Cory, as well as Debbie’s Co-Workers and friends at Wray’s, Chris and Karen Brown, and Debbie’s manager Mark, and his extended family of the Church Of Christ where he has attended for the last fourteen years.
Cory attended Davis High School and furthered his education to become a computer specialist. Cory fulfilled his passion and become a member of the “Geek Squad” Cory worked at Fred Meyer for twenty seven years sharing his life with his fellow Co-Workers. There he met his soul mate Debbie. Cory was an active member of the Airstream Club. He also enjoyed fishing and auto racing. Cory was especially proud to become a Great Uncle. His biggest accomplishment was helping his wife of thirteen years raise their daughter, Cortnie Alyssa Harrington. Cory was an active supporter of all Cortnie’s endeavors. Whether it be gymnastics, ballet and recently the “Mr. Davis pageant.
Cory is preceded in death by his parents Anna and LeMoyne and his niece Amy. He survived by his wife Debbie, Daughter Cortnie, Sister Linda Utzler his brothers, Ron, Roger, Glen, and Ken, as well as eight nieces and eight nephews and one Great niece Zoe. Johnny Cates
Leaving his family and friends behind, Johnny went home to be with his Savior and Lord on April 11, 2008. Johnny was born on February 8, 1909 in Ripley County, Missouri to the late Jefferson Davis and Millie Cates. He spent his childhood with his seven siblings working on the family farm. Nearing Depression time Johnny worked in St. Louis for a short time, then went back to help on the farm. He is survived by one sister, Wilma Pepmiller of Columbia, MO and one brother, Hubert Cates and his wife Val of Mountain Home, AR.
Johnny was a successful farmer in his earlier years but the droughts of the 1950's made him decide to move to Washington where he felt the climate was better for his wife, Clara, who preceded him in death in 1971. His career soon moved from farming to the United Utilities Telephone Company in March 1958. He retired in 1974. His interests, which were varied, included traveling, teaching Sunday School, Bible studies, gardening, and being with family and friends. Later in life he developed macular degeneration and lived with his surviving son, Hunter and his wife Peggy.
He is survived by Hunter and Peggy Cates of Naches, WA; daughter Jan and John Goodrich of Liberty Lake, WA and daughter Sally and Bert Liebholz of Yakima; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jim and Mary Cates, Jered and Jameson, Yakima, Gene and Sheila Cates, Jed and Stephanie, Sedro-Woolley, Samantha and Josh Elliott of Japan, Marci and Alan Collinsworth, A.J. and Kaitlin, Yakima; Johanna and Michael Clapp, Jason and Jordann, Bend, OR and Jonathan Welch, Emmett, ID, Devin, Ryan and Trey. He was preceded in death in November 1940 by his son Davis Eugene.
Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday April 17, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday April 18, 2008 Zillah City Cemetery with services following at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Toppenish, with a reception following.
