Verle Kirk
SUNNYSIDE - Verle was born August 21, 1937 in Carroll, Iowa to David & Beula Kirk. Raised in Rippey, Iowa, he was active in Future Farmers of America, 4-H, and played baseball & basketball in junior high and high school.
He attended Iowa State University, then known as Iowa State College, and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Business, and a minor in accounting.
While in college, he pitched for a recreation fast pitch softball team, and met his future wife, Elaine Emmett, at a 4-H softball tournament.
Verle enlisted in the United States Army in 1959, and after active duty, he married Elaine on October 2, 1960. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1965.
Verle worked for The Des Moines Register & Tribune, and then for agriculture co-ops in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
In 1966, he accepted a position with the Boeing Company, and moved the family to Bellevue, Washington. Verle then took a job with Western Farmers Cooperative in Seattle, and worked his way up to Regional Sales manager until the company merged with Land O'Lakes in 1982.
After a few short years with Manna-Pro (a division of Land O'Lakes) he began working for the feed division of Darigold, Inc., in Portland, OR. He worked for Darigold until 1993, and then moved to Sunnyside, Washington, where he was a Store Division Manager of Bleyhl Farm Services.
Verle retired from Bleyhl in 2002, and lived in Sunnyside until his death. Verle is survived by: loving wife, Elaine; sons, Dave, Dan and Tom Kirk; daughters-in-law Sharon and Kathy; granddaughters Elishia Stefanowski and her husband Brandon, Jacquie Calender an her husband Pat, and Ashley Malone.
His hobbies included raising and showing rabbits and pigeons, and he was active in local and national clubs. He made many friends throughout the USA and will be missed by one and all.
Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5 a the funeral home with interment to follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
Leona Kingsbury
Leona Katherine Kingsbury, 83, of Yakima, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Garden Village Care Center in Yakima.
Leona was born August 16, 1924 in Maple Creek, Sask., Canada. She grew up in Yakima and attended Yakima Business College. Together with her husband, Keith, she lived in Redding, CA for nearly 40 years. They returned to Yakima in 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Keith of Yakima; a son, Richard K. Kingsbury of Castro Valley, CA; a daughter, Clara Ana Benkaim of Oakley, CA; a brother, Richard Hecker of Spokane; a sister, Mary Sidwell of Yakima; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
Hedy Lybbert
Hedy Lybbert, 83, of Selah, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Hedy was born August 3, 1924 in Olympia, WA. She was a self-employed bookkeeper for many years.
She is survived by a son, Robert Lybbert of Selah.
At her request, no formal services will be held.
Bertha Little
Bertha Little, 97, of Mabton passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at Mabton.
Bertha was born in Goldendale, WA. She was an LPN and worked at St. Elizabeth's Hopsital in Yakima and Nursing Homes in Yakima and Mabton.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Little of Tacoma, WA and Loren Little of Kankakee, IL; two daughters, Dona Stump and Darlene Curtiss, both of Mabton; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.
An inurnment burial will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
Tinia Buitenbos
YAKIMA - Tinia Buitenbos, 89, of Yakima passed away May 3, 2008 at Yakima Memorial Hospital.
Tinia was born Sept. 9, 1918 in Sunnyside, WA to Krane and Cornelia Vander Veer. She married Ike Buitenbos on June 19, 1940 and settled in the Sunnyside/Mabton area. She and Ike farmed in the area for many years. They attended the Christian Reformed Church.
Tinia was a homemaker and a mother to numerous foster children.
She is survived by: two sons, Roger (Nancy) Buitenbos of Yakima and Dick (Beverly) Buitenbos of Goldendale; four daughters, Carolyn (Jerry) Paeschke of Grandview, Jane (Norm) Cleveringa of Zillah, Betty (Howard) Miller of Vancouver and Sharon Williams of Pasco; a sister, Pearl Boersema of Marysville 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jack Boersema, two brothers, Ed and Dick Vander Veer; and her husband, Ike Buitenbos.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, May 6 from noon until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, May 7 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
Francisco Alacon Nieto
Zillah - Francisco Alacon Nieto, 84 of Zillah passed away May 2, 2008.
Francisco was born in Roquilidar, Spain. He worked as a laborer in agriculture and enjoyed painting. He was born and raised in Spain and lived in Zillah for the last 31 years.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Jr. of Vancouver and Lincoln of Atlanta, GA; five daughters, Linda Diaz of Seattle, Rosina Nieto, Mercedes Heilman and Dolores Nieto, all of Zillah, and Daisha Marie Nieto of Seattle; and a brother, Cayatano Nieto of Puerto Sagunto, Spain.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 11 from 4-8 p.m. at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Zillah City Cemetery. A wake will follow, with the location to be announced at the service.
Dorothy Davison
Dorothy Davison, 85, of Toppenish died Saturday, April 29, 2006 in Toppenish.
Davison was born in Humbolt, Neb. She moved to Toppenish 60 years ago and worked as a secretary for Labbee Mint.
She is survived by two sons, Dan Davison and Tim Davison; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
