Roberta L. McConnell
YAKIMA – Roberta L. McConnell, 77 of Yakima passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Roberta was born Jan. 13, 1929 in Yakima to George A. & Doris (Ohms) VanVleck. She married James McConnell April 23, 1948 in Yakima where she raised her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
She loved garage sales and was a strong woman and dedicated wife and mother. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family members.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, James of Yakima; a son, James R. (Cynthia) McConnell of Yakima; a daughter, Diane (James) Brummet of Yakima; two brothers, Lowell (Margie) VanVleck of Florida and Clinton James Van Vleck of Hermiston, OR; a sister, Isabel Adams of Yakima; 2 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald; her parents; and a grandson, J.R. Brummet.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Doris Marie Alvord
SELAH – Doris Marie Alvord, 77 of Selah, passed away April 26, 2006 at home.
Doris was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Huntley, Nebraska. She attended high school in Selah, then worked for Del Monte, Libby’s and Ross Packing from which she retired. She married Richard Alvord Jan. 13, 1950 in Selah.
Survivors include her son, David and wife Jan of Yakima; four grandchildren, Katie Fear & husband Joe of Washougal, Jason Alvord and wife Heidi of Yakima, Elliott Alvord of Selah and Jarred Alvord of Spokane; 3 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy Dixon of Monroe, WA and Irma Deselms of Holdredge, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her son, Richard Allen; her two brothers Sidney Peterson and Dick Peterson; and parents, Louis & Stella Peterson.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.

Frank James Grimm
Frank James Grimm, 52, of Selah died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at home.
Mr. Grimm was born in Prineville, Ore., and moved to the Yakima Valley at the age of 4. He worked at Layman's Lumber in Naches as a saw filer for 17 years, and also served in the Air Force.
Survivors include his mother, Peggy Bolt of Yakima; his step-mother, Barbara Grimm of Naches; three daughters, Heather Alana Grimm of Seattle, Sarah Terese Grimm of Issaquah and Taisa Louise Grimm-Clark of Yakima; one stepbrother, Randy Renner of Gleed; one sister, Patricia Ann Lawrence of Yakima; and one stepsister Syndi Kanzler of Naches.
A celebration of his life is pending.

Wayne Everett Burbee
YAKIMA - Wayne Everett Burbee, 51 of Yakima passed away unexpectedly at his home, Mon., April 24, 2006.
Wayne was born April 25, 1954 in Prosser, WA. He went to school in Selah, and then the family moved to Yakima. He later graduated from Mt Tahoma High School, Tacoma, WA. Wayne joined the Air Force and served for 6 years. He also worked as a glazer in Phoenix, Las Vegas then returned home to Yakima. He worked at Summit Windows then went on to Budget Glass. He enjoyed camping, fishing and water skiing. Wayne will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his mother Darlene; his father Bob, both of Yakima; a sister Carol Long of Roy WA; a brother Don Burbee of Cottage Grove, OR.; and Numerous nieces, cousins and friends.
There will be no services at the family's request. Valley Hills Funeral Home & Crematory is taking care of arrangements.
Herman August Martin Mestmacher
Herman August Martin Mestmacher, 99, of Toppenish passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2006 at his home surrounded by his friends and family.
Herman was born June 30, 1906 in Grand Island, Iowa. Herman had an interesting life growing up. In 1911 he moved with his family to the Hoover, Iowa where they ranched. In 1931 he married Bessie Wilks in Newbill, Iowa. The couple had 7 children 3 died at an early age. Herman’s wife moved the family to Toppenish in 1944.
Herman followed after he sold the ranch in Iowa.
Herman raised his children on his own since 1946. In 1965 Herman and Bessie divorced after 19 years of separation. Herman worked hard to provide for his children working various jobs farming and as an irrigator for Mt. Arbor Nurseries for many years. Herman enjoyed fishing in his retirement and going out to eat at KFC, and enjoying family and friends.
His 3 daughters, Bonnie, Violet and Mary; 3 sons, Ralph, Lester, Tommy; and 2 grandchildren preceded Herman in death.
Survivors include his former wife Bessie Wilks of Custer, SD.; a son, John Mestmacher of Toppenish; his caregivers, Kristie and Roger Albaugh and family of Zillah; friends, Art and Barbara Le Roue of Zillah; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday April 28, 2006 at Zillah City Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 27, from 10-6 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah.
Chester L. Hornbuckle
Chester L. Hornbuckle, 71, of Yakima died Thursday.
Mr. Hornbuckle was born in Buena. He lived in the Yakima Valley most of his life. He served in the Navy.
Survivors include two sons, Bert Oswalt and Chester Whittum; three daughters, Shirley Ashby, Kathy Hulen and Susan Whittum; a brother, Curtis Hornbuckle; a sister, Mary James; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zillah Cemetery. Cremation will be earlier at Valley Hills Crematory, Yakima.
