Martin Andrade

Martin Andrade, 69, of Sunnyside died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Andrade was born in Mexico. He was a laborer in construction.

Survivors include a son, Enrique Soria Valdes; five daughters, Leonor Soria Valdes, Amparo Soria Valdes, Blanca Soria Valdes, Martha Alicia Soria Valdes and Olga Soria Valdes, all of Reno, Nev.; 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Burial will be in Mexico.

Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside, is in charge of arrangements.

Maureen Nance

YAKIMA - Maureen Nance 77, of Yakima passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Yakima.

Maureen was born October 4, 1928 in Leavenworth, KS, She grew up in Kansas City, Mo. She attended Washington University and Santa Barbara Community College. Maureen worked in Insurance and accounting most of her life. She married the love of her life Dana Nance July 21, 1962 in Santa Barbara, Ca. She came to Yakima from Santa Barbara in 1991. She was a great quilter and an avid reader who could empty a Library . She also loved to travel.

Her husband Dana, a son Michael Sweetser, 2 great grandchildren Josh and Nick Wiley precede her in death.

Survivors include; a daughter Sherry and Jerry Mashburn of Sunnyside, WA.; a son William and Liz Nance of Lowell, MA.; daughter-in-law Myrna Nance; grandchildren Colleen (Larry), Patrick, Katherine, Vanessa, Clara(Andrew), Susan, Robin, Catie. Great Grandchildren, Michael, Trinity, Blaine, Sueann.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Cremation will be at Valley Hills Crematory, Yakima. Arrangement under the direction of Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah.

Carol Joan Weddle

YAKIMA - Carol Joan Weddle passed away on April 5, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital at the age of 64.

Carol was born on January 1, 1942 in Yakima, WA to Ralph and Florence Lytton. She was raised in Selah and graduated from Selah High School. Carol met her husband, Kenneth "Skip" C. Weddle and after their marriage in 1961, they spent 2 years in Long Beach, CA, where Skip was stationed in the Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, Carol and Skip made their home in the Yakima area. After raising their children, Carol and Skip returned to the family home in Selah where Carol was raised. They have resided there for the past 12 years.

Carol was an avid homemaker and crafter. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed sewing, stamping, shopping, collecting antiques and making crafts. She was extremely talented and created beautiful quilts and wall hangings for her family and friends.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Skip, of 44 years, their 2 sons, Kenneth C. Weddle Jr. of Outlook and Joe D. Weddle of Yakima, five grandchildren (including Christopher Weddle, who was raised by Carol and Skip), one great grandson, her brother Don Lytton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Florence Lytton.

Carol's wishes were to have a private graveside service at West Hills Memorial Park. A Memorial Luncheon will be held on April 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Carol and Skip's home in Selah. Family and friends are welcome.

Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima is entrusted with her cremation arrangements.

Carol will be greatly missed by all!

Edelmira Barajas Garcia

Edelmira Barajas Garcia, 54, of Sunnyside died Tuesday in a car accident in Prosser.

She was born in Mexico. She was a laborer in agriculture.

Survivors include six sons, Jesus Garibay, Simon Garibay, Hector Garibay, Armondo Garibay, Jorge Garibay and Jose Garibay; three daughters, Maria Garibay, Martha Garibay and Alma Garibay; and 18 grandchildren.

The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in the Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Burial will be in Mexico.

Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside, is in charge of arrangements.

eon Young

Leon Henry Young, baptized March 5, 2006, went to his heavenly home on March 28, 2006, at the age of 83.

Leon was born in Pyatt, Arkansas on November 26, 1922 to Everett and Effie (Adams) Young. He grew up with sister Lucille and brothers Alonzo, Gillus and James. He married his wife, Lucy(Harris) of Olvey, Arkansas on June 10, 1944. They traveled to Washington State in 1945 and their son, Jimmy, was born in 1946. Leon and Lucy worked in the fruit industry all their lives. Together, they bought the “Selah Home Place” in 1954, and acquired three more ranches through the years. He and his son, Jimmy, have been operating partners since 1962.

Leon had a life-long love of animals, especially horses. He was a member of the Yakima County Senior Sheriffs Posse, serving as captain for many years. Leon and Lucy treasured the many friendships made with these members. He was assistant leader of the first 4H horse club, the Red Hot Riders and a Drill Master for the Yakima County Junior Sheriffs Posse.

It was during this time he acquired ‘Star’, the cutting horse he rode in competitions at the McGuire Arena.

Leon’s family and friends spent many years hunting the Clockum area. After hauling horses and hay, corrals and water, pitching tents and hauling wood, so began the memory making.

Leon and Lucy enjoyed trips on the “Lucy II’, especially the Straits of Juan de Fuca and lake fishing. Their grandsons shared many happy times on these trips.

After years of farming, they finally became ‘snow birds’ and spent winters with friends in Arizona and California. Their greatest adventure was traveling to La Paz, Mexico, via the Baja Peninsula.

Leon is survived by his son, Jim Young (Pam), grandsons Michael (Darcy), Tyler, Andrew and two great grandsons, Derek and Grayson, sister Lucille Rogers of Pyatt, Arkansas, brother Alonzo of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lucille, his parents and brothers Gillus and James.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights. Donations are requested to Yakima County Search & Rescue, PO Box 1801, Yakima, 98907, or Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Special thanks to Dr. Chris Clark and Mary Anne, Charles, Julien and Cherryl, Sara, David, Bob McGuire, the TLC Staff, Melinda, Marlene and neighbors, Mike, Bonnie and Garrett.

Robert Knight

TOPPENISH - Robert (Bob) Jesse Knight of Toppenish went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2006 from a cardiac arrest. Bob was born at home in Toppenish on May 6, 1937 to Arthur (Art) and Mable (Cromar) Knight.

He attended school in Toppenish through the 9th grade at which time he quit school to start farming and ranching with his father. Bob enlisted in 1956 into the 38th Infantry Regiment and served in Hawaii and the Eastern United States. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

He married Clara June Lindenbauer on June 20, 1959 in Sunnyside, WA. As a couple they made their home in Sunnyside, Zillah, Satus and Toppenish. Bob farmed and ranched with his father and brothers in the Toppenish and Satus area. He started farming and ranching on his own in 1976.

Before entering the Army, he worked for Stokley VanCamp. In 1959 he returned home from the Army and returned to work at Stokley VanCamp and worked until it's closing in the mid 1970's. He also worked for Idaho Potato Processors. Bob's favorite job was working at Toppenish Livestock Commission from 1981 until 2002. At this job he could handle cattle and ride horses which he loved to do. Bob had a great passion for Horses, which he passed on to his daughter Carla. He enjoyed entering his team of Belgian mares in parades through the 1970's. Bob along with his wife and daughter showed horses at the fair and other placed from 1977 through 1985. Bob and Clara raised a few Appaloosa's, Draft Horses and Quarter Horses in their life together.

Bob became a born again Christian in 1997 and joined The Zillah Community Church of the Seventh Day Adventist where he served as a deacon and greeter. He brought much joy and love into the church. He will be sadly missed.

Bob became very ill at the time of his wife's death in 2002. He battled diabetes, congestive heart failure, low blood pressure and dementia which lead to one set-back after another.

Bob enjoyed riding, raising and working with horses, cattle and goats. He also enjoyed having his favorite dog around. He liked seeing the new foals and other young animals being born. He also enjoyed driving around the valley looking to see which farmer was planting what crop.

Survivors include his daughter Carla J. Knight of Toppenish; sister, Mildred "Millie" (Fred) Hackner of Toppenish; brothers, Arnold "Arnie" Knight of Toppenish and Michael "Mike" (Debi) Knight of Zillah; brother-in-law Gary Goeken Sr. of Toppenish; Leo Lindenbauer of Spokane; sisters-in-law Betty Thompson of Redmond; Bonnie (George) Booth of West Richland; Phyllis (Derald) Lyman of Spokane; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara (Lindenbauer) Knight in 2002; son Robert A. "Robbie" Knight in 1974, his parents Arthur and Mable Knight in 1969 and 1999; sister, Barbara "Barb" Goeken in 1992; and his in-laws Lester and Bonnie Lindenbauer.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, April 3, 2006 from 4pm - 7pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Zillah City Cemetery at 2pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Zillah Community Church of Seventh Day Adventists, donor's favorite charity or to help with family expenses. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in charge of arrangements.

Special thanks to Dr. Dan Doornink and his nurse Sue, who always treated Bob and his family with love and care. All the Cornerstone Medical Clinic staff are to be commended for their care and concern, especially Jan.
