Joyner, David Elliott
Arlington, WA - David passed away unexpectedly at home on April 7, 2007.
Dave was born in Mason City, Iowa on March 14, 1974. The son of Linda and Donald Joyner, Dave grew up in Marysville, Wash., and graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School in 1992.
Dave is survived by his mother, Linda Joyner and Ray Kurth, of Marysville; brother, Kevin Joyner, his wife Tara Joyner, and niece, Kolby Joyner, of Arlington, Wash.; the mother of his son, Danna Joyner, of Marysville, Wash.; and his precious son, Braden Joyner; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends who loved and cared about Dave very much.
Dave will always be remembered as a wonderful dad, brother and son. He left us all too soon. Theres not enough room on this page to describe him but the people who knew Dave will always remember the good ol Dave. Daves son Braden Elliot was the pride and joy of his life and he loved him very much. He enjoyed spending every minute possible playing baseball with him, taking him camping and just cuddling him on the couch watching T.V.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Donald Joyner.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers to please make a donation at any Washington Mutual Bank in Bradens name.
Dave you will be missed but not forgotten.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2007, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marysville, Wash., a reception followed.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Funeral Alternatives, in Marysville.
Gray, Kimberly Jo
Arlington, WA - Kimberly Jo Gray, 46, of Arlington, Wash., passed away on June 17, 2007, at her home under the care of Hospice.
Kimberly was born May 29, 1961, to Joseph Jr. and Sylvia (Lee) Johnson in Fargo, N.D.
Her father passed away six months later. Her mother later married Wayne D. Nelson, who adopted Kim. She graduated from Hawley (Minn.) High School and from North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. with a degree in electrical engineering. She worked for Honeywell and QLogic in the Minneapolis, Minn., area before moving in 2003 to work for Emulex, in Bothell, Wash. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed showing her horses and dogs at competitions.
She is survived by her parents, Wayne D. and Sylvia Nelson of Hawley, Minn.; two sisters, Roxanne Nelson (Kevin Flynn), of St. Paul, Minn.; Rebecca Nelson, of Kirkland, Wash.; and one brother, Kyle Nelson, of Moorhead, Minn.; a niece, Maziere and two nephews, Declan and Cormac Flynn, of St. Paul; and numerous beloved pets whom she considered family.
A memorial service will be held at her home on June 20 and at a later date in Hawley, Minn.
Gillespie, Monte Dale
Arlington, WA - Monte Dale Gillespie passed away 17, 2007.
Monte was born Feb. 1, 1939.

Beek, Evelyn Van
Arlington, WA - Evelyn Van Beek, 86, went home to be with her Lord on April 10, 2007.
Evelyn was born in Lynden, Wash., April 17, 1920, and had been residing at Marysville Care Center for the past seven years.
She married Conrad Van Beek on June 15, 1945, in Lynden, Wash., and in 1947 they moved to Everett, Wash., where they raised their four sons. Evelyn was a faithful homemaker and life-time member of the Everett Christian Reform Church.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Duane (Donna) Van Beek, of Pasco, Wash., Dennis (Shirley) Van Beek, of Everett, Arvin (Alice) Van Beek, of Marysville, and Alan (Norma) Van Beek, of Outlook. Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Hamstra; sisters and brother-in-laws, Joyce and Tony Honcoop, Wilma and Ted Triezenberg; and a large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Van Beek; sisters, Tracy Bogaard, Emma Vanderpol and Barbara Nyhoff.
Viewing was held from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2007, and from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville. Graveside Services were held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Evergreen Cemetery. A Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the Everett Christian Reform Church, Everett.

Smith, Charles Tuesday, 23 Sep 2008
Arlington, WA - Chuck Smith died on Sep. 23, 2008 from complications of cerebral palsy. He was born Dec. 12, 1964 to Myron and Jann Smith. He graduated from Marysville-Pillchuck High School in 1986. Chuck will be remembered for his ability to communicate with people in spite of his deafness and physical limitations. Chuck made great effort in his life to make others feel comfortable. He loved practical jokes, both giving and receiving, and he had a great sense of humor. Despite his disabilities Chuck was independent and determined, and never backed down from a challenge. He lived in his own apartment with great care and assistance by the people at Service Alternatives of Marysville.
Chuck enjoyed family BBQ’s and holidays, social activities provided by Eagle Wings, watching football and hockey, playing checkers, bowling, summer camp, being with friends and family. He leaves behind his loving family: Parents Myron and Jann Smith of Marysville, brothers Todd and Kyle, and sister Kelli, nieces Bethany and Brook Reed, nephews Tyler and Brendan Smith, Uncle Roger and Aunt Margaret Smith and family of Woodside, CA, and good friends Larry and Linda Padgett, and John Reed. He also leaves his wonderful caregivers and friends at Services Alternatives.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 14 at 10a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2301 Hoyt Ave. Everett. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in Chuck’s name to Trinity Episcopal Church of Everett, and Eagle Wings Ministries of Marysville, and organization providing social activities and events for people with special needs.
Chuck had a wonderful spirit about him, and will be missed by many people he touched throughout his life.
Marshal, Robert Monday, 22 Sep 2008
Arlington, WA - Robert Wendell Marshall passed away Monday afternoon at his home in Holladay surrounded by friends and family. He died after a two-year struggle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease that left him paralyzed and on a respirator. He was 55.
Friends and neighbors released 2,000 balloons at his passing.
They remember Bob as a father, husband, newspaper publisher and marathoner who put those he loved above all else.
He is survived by five children: Tiffany, 27; Danny, 26; Greg, 23; Michelle, 18; Chelsea, 17; and wife, Debi (Mendiola), to whom he was married for 31 years. The couple are expecting their first grandchild, Robert Luke, in February.
They were a closely-knit family who spent their happiest times traveling to favorite spots in Europe and Hawaii.
His parents, Wendell P. and Barbara J. Marshall of Pocatello, Idaho, precede him in death.
He also leaves behind a brother, Jim (Tina) Marshall and two sisters, Diane (Eric) Neste and Janet (Mike) McBride.
Bob graced the lives of those he knew with compassion, strength and giving. He coached his kids’ little-league softball and basketball teams, took his kids to Utah Jazz games, volunteered at their schools and cared for his wife, who has battled non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for 15 years.
He contributed to social causes such as cancer research, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Primary Children’s Hospital.
He owned eight community newspapers and business journals in Utah, Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.
He was publisher of the Pekin Daily Times in Illinois and president of the Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce there.
Though he loved journalism, his true love was family. He also excelled at downhill skiing and running.
He began running marathons five years ago at the age of 50 and completed the Salt Lake and St. George Marathons twice and the Chicago Marathon.
Four days after completing the Chicago Marathon in October 2007, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as ALS, a degenerative neurological disorder.
In spite of the devastating news, Bob completed the Boston Marathon that April with his three running buddies Tom Loken, Paula Vernon and Donna Thomas.
He was featured on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric as well as local telecasts and newspapers for this feat.
He will be remembered for his grace, dignity and determination.
The family would like to thank friends who have become like family, Tom and Sally Loken, Paula Vernon, Donna Thomas and Kelly Petersen-Short and especially Dr. Mark Bromberg, Bob’s neurologist, and Dr. Saundra Buys, Debi’s oncologist.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dr. Mark Bromberg, the head of the neurological department at the University of Utah Hospital, and Bob’s kind and compassionate Dr., at 50 North Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84132.
Bob’s viewing will be held at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East, 1300 South, from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24. For more information on the viewing, call 582-1582.
Bob’s funeral will be held at the Holladay United Church of Christ located at 2631 East Murray Holladay Road at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25.
Our love goes with you, Bob, as you run marathons in the sky. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
