Robert Daniel Ribail
Monday, September 29th, 2008 a good man became “absent from the body and present with the Lord.” He hugged his wife and drew close the family, friends and Savior that awaited him.
He was born Robert Daniel Ribail on June 21st, 1918 to French immigrant parents Daniel & Lea (Robert) Ribail in Toppenish, WA. He grew up with 2 sisters and a brother in Sunnyside, WA. School could not tame his mischievous spirit and he opted to cook for his sheep herding father “up in the mountains.”
He met Doris Brinkman on a blind date in 1940. She was engaged, but he said: “Not anymore!“ They were married on March 6th, 1941. They recognized in each other a love that would see them through 61 years of marriage with 4 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They worked together, danced together, cooked together, laughed together and loved together. They shed many tears through the years, but their love, acceptance, support and strength they gave to their family never wavered. Cancer, alone separated them in 2002.
Bob worked as a truck driver for Clark Distributing until 1976 when he and Doris retired and took their motor home on the road to see America and spend time with family and friends. He loved food, cars, travel and getting a good deal. He was a self-taught harmonica and accordion player and shared his music, stories of the old days and a great sense of humor with all. He was a longtime Eagle member, always ready to join in a card game, shoot pool or go look at cars and motor homes.
He thoroughly loved, but left behind, a family that loved him with all their hearts and recognized the example he set as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his children: Shirley & Nick Nichols, Dan Ribail, Lea & Ed Spigler and Lorri Marsh; 10 grandchildren; 11˝ great- grandchildren; and a loving brother, Ernie.
He was greeted at the Pearly Gates by his wife, parents, 2 sisters; a great grandson as well as the many friends that his stories and laughter touched in his 90 years. His life will be remembered at 11:00 am on Friday, October 3rd at the Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights with concluding services at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association can be made through Valley Hills. His family would like to thank the living saints at Highgate Senior Living, Mrs. Evelyn Dale and Willow Springs Care.
