Florence Coble

Florence Coble passed away October 24, 2012.

Florence was born Florence Wilson June 18, 1931 in Richland, Washington to Roy and Edna (Stone) Wilson. The family moved to Moxee, Washington where she grew up. Florence met and eventually married Gilbert Coble on December 3, 1950. Florence and Gilbert made their home in Yakima raising three children. Florence worked as a caregiver at Selah School. She then worked at Del Monte Cannery in Yakima and packed apples at fruit warehouses in the valley.

In 1987 Florence and Gilbert moved to Mattawa for retirement. She lived at home until her death.

Florence is survived by her 2 sons, Gilbert Leroy Coble Junior and wife Margaret, and Gary Coble and wife Donna. She had 8 grandchildren, Michelle Coble Morrison, Eric Coble, Daniel Coble, Kevin Webster, Sam Webster, Tammy Webster, Brandon Coble, and Ben Coble, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Florence is also survived by a brother Donald Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rita and her husband Gilbert as well as two brothers Nathaniel Wilson and Melvin Wilson. Florence was a loving mother and grandmother and will be forever in our hearts.

Memorials may be made to North Star Lodge in care of Brookside Funeral Home, PO Box 9907, Yakima, WA 98909.

Graveside service will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 10:00 AM at West Hills Memorial Park, Yakima, WA.

Warren G. Rose
October 28, 1920 - October 21, 2012

Born in Eros, Arkansas, and a former resident of Yakima, Washington, Warren was an orchardist on Naches Heights for twenty years prior to retiring. After living in Olympia for the last four years, Warren passed away on October 21, just short of his 92nd birthday.

Warren is survived by his devoted wife of almost 70 years, Daphna, and his loving family: his four daughters, Judy Allen (Richard), Margaret Shultz (Michael), Kathy Chamberlin (Steve), Sharon Rose Smith (Laurence); his six grandchildren, Tyler Maalo (Noriko), Melanie Chamberlin, Bryce Chamberlin (Alyson), Joel Smith, Erica Shultz, Elisabeth Smith, and two great-grandchildren, Alena and Keala Maalo. Warren was predeceased by his parents Ola and L.C. Rose, his sister, Moyra Tabor, and survived by brothers Loy, Gerald, and Eugene Rose, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

As a World War II veteran, Warren’s service to his country included landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day Plus One, and other historic battles. A longtime member of the Church of Christ, Warren was steadfast in both his religious and political beliefs. Especially known for his love of basketball and baseball, at almost any level, Warren’s athletic skills were displayed during his early years at Pyatt High School - and he remained a competitor on the court with whomever he faced. His fondness for country music in which he always found enjoyment was also deeply rooted, and it would frequently surface in his warm bass - and a knowing smile - that reflected his sense of humor.

His true nature was exhibited in his readiness to help others, his witty comments, and his resilience as he endured his last years with grace and without complaint. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27 at 11:30 a.m., Terrace Heights Memorial Park. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: Providence St. Peter Foundation, 413 Lilly Road NE, Olympia, WA 98506 attn: SoundHomeCare & Hospice or to: VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Voluntary Service (A-135), 9600 Veterans Drive, Tacoma, WA 98493, or a charity of your choice.

Teresa Mendez Garcia

Teresa Mendez Garcia, 68, of Prosser passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

Teresa was born on February 16, 1944 in Eagle Pass, Texas, the daughter of Herminia (Menchaca) and Hipolito Mendez. Teresa lived and worked in California and Texas raising her family before moving to Washington State. On October 27, 1978, she married Samuel Garcia in Sunnyside. They made their home in Grandview, until they moved to their ranch in Prosser in 2000.

In 1996, Teresa suffered a debilitating stroke, which did not slow her down, but caused her to retire from Child Protective Services. Despite her disability, her independent nature led her to continue to care for her grandchildren and volunteer for Catholic Family and Child Services-Senior Companion Program as a caregiver, transporting people to their various appointments.

She enjoyed family time, especially with her husband Samuel, and her granddaughters, Alexis and Shania, who often spent long stretches of time during the summer with their grandma. She also enjoyed shopping, listening to country and Tejano music, and watching NFL football, especially the Seahawks, Teresa also enjoyed the summers she and her family spent camping at Mt. Rainier National Park, Ohanapecosh. Mom was the best Mama anyone could have. She was always willing to help anyone in need. Mama will be greatly missed but we find comfort and peace in knowing that she is with our Heavenly Father.

Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Samuel Garcia of Prosser; her children, Hector Vela (Holly) of Dayton, WA, Yvonne Seyler (Mike) of Puyallup, WA, Minnie Garcia (Jacob) of Richland, WA,

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shannell Vela, Shase Vela, Alexis Seyler, Shania Seyler, Etiene Vela, Brightne Partlow, Matt Miller, Suri Vela, and Eddy Storm Vela, and Minnie’s baby boy due in January; her brothers, Hipolito Mendez (Paula), Rick Hernandez, Abel Mendez (Stacey), her sister Esther Greene (James), many nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother Herminia Mendez and her father Hipolito Mendez, her son Edelmiro “Eddie” Vela and her sister Magdalena “Maggie” Perez.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Toppenish, WA. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will take place at Iglesia El Calvario at 1810 Morgan Rd. in Sunnyside, WA immediately following the graveside services.

Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in Care of all arrangements.

James Richard Hooper

YAKIMA - James Richard Hooper, Wapato, passed away October 24, 2012 in Yakima.

He was born to Jim and Genevieve Hooper on May 25, 1955 in Yakima and graduated from White Swan High School.

Rick lived his entire life on the Yakama Reservation and was a proud member of the Yakama Nation.

In his younger years was an avid rodeo member and participated in Team Roping with his father and brother.

They were very proud to say that they went to the Indian National Finals numerous times over the years.

Rick worked with his dad in the family cattle company and his hard work will be greatly missed.

Rick is survived by his father James L. Hooper Sr.; his sons James L. Hooper and Richard Hooper; his daughters Janice Hooper and Jenny Hooper; his sister Susan Hooper; his six grandchildren DJ Harris, Damion Hooper, Dillon Hooper, Kyley Pascua, Andy Pascua, and Niko Pascua; and his two great-grandchildren Niah Martinez and Alex Vega.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Hooper; his brother Fred Hooper; his sister Aurelia Hooper; and his maternal grandmother Aurelia Ross.

A Dressing Service will be held today, Friday October 26, 2012 at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, WA starting at 2:00 p.m. An Overnight Service will follow at the family home.

Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Reservation Community Memorial Park.

Merritt Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Jackson "Jack" Ray Butterfield

Selah, WA - Jackson "Jack" Ray Butterfield passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001 at his home in Selah.

He was born in Sheridan, Wyoming and moved to the valley with his family at the age of 5. He attended Yakima schools.

He mainly worked as a forklift operator in the fruit warehouses and the last couple of years for Goodwill Industries of Selah.

Jack liked to build small models for his nephews when they were small and had a collection of metal models he had built.

As a child, Jack enjoyed going to the race car track with his mother and sister. 20+ years ago he met his "adopted family" Brad and Cindy Tidrick and their family. Since then he spent untold hours in the Tidrick shop and in the pits on Saturday nights. The crew's will surely miss him.

He is survived by a sister, Edith (Edie) Mae Jacobson (Albert L.) of Marysville, WA; a brother, Ivan Lowell Butterfield of Anderson, CA; a half-sister, Ramona Murrieta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Clinton and Lena Margaret (Childers) Butterfield; two brothers, Homer C. Jr. and Charles Herbert; and one sister, Mary Ellen Hiebert Dudley.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Moxee city park for an informal memorial/celebration of Jack's life at 1pm with a potluck dinner immediately following.

The Moxee city park and swimming pool has been reserved Sunday July 29, 2001 from 1-5pm.

Bring your potluck dish, beverage(no alcohol allowed in the park), chairs and a story to share.

Jack was cremated and an inurnment will be in Abbey View Cemetery in Brier (Bothel), WA.

Dorothea L. Carlton

Yakima - Dorothea L. Carlton of Yakima, passed away at Good Samaritan Health Care on Saturday, August 18, 2001.

Dorothea was born in Spokane, Washington, to John and Leah (Dephene) Siegfried. She was educated in Ellensburg.

She married Don Carlton Dec. 1, 1946 in Yakima.

She is Survivored by her husband Don Carlton of Yakima. Dorothea was preceded in death by an infant son Phillip Lee Carlton

Memorial Services will be held at a later date

Cremation will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in charge of arrangements.
