Blanche Elizabeth Downing
Yakima - Blanche Elizabeth Downing 87, of Yakima passed away Monday, September 17, 2001 at Garden Villiage, Yakima.
She was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Rader, MO to Micah and Mary Rader. Blanche worked as a Nurse in Yakima for many years.
Survivors include a daughter; Ann Downing of Bellevue, Wa.; a brother, Howard Rader of Denver, Co.; and 2 grandchildren.
Private burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Luis E. Duque
SUNNYSIDE -- Luis E. Duque, 26 of Sunnyside passed away Monday, August 6, 2001 in Sunnyside as the result of an auto accident.
Luis was born October 11, 1974 in Mexico to Gari and Maria Celeste Duque.
He came to Sunnyside in 1997 and worked as a farm laborer.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He was a good husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Elena Duque of Sunnyside; his father, Gari Duque of Mexico; a son, Luis Duque Jr., of Sunnyside; two step-daughters, Crystal Alejandre and Ruby Alejandre of Sunnyside; four brothers, Francisco Duque of New York, Miguel Duque and Gari Duque Jr. of California, and Baldemar Duque of Mexico; and three sisters in Mexico.
Rosary Vigil will be held Wednesday and Thursday, August 8 and 9, 2001 at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 10 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sunnyside.
Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens under the direction of Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
Everett George Adkins
WAPATO - Everett George Adkins, 82 of Yakima passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at Emerald Circle Convalescent Center in Wapato.
Everett was born Nov. 20, 1918 in Lemon, SD to George W. and Ella May (Irven) Adkins. He attended Granger schools. He farmed in the Lower Valley for many years and worked at the sugar beet factory in Toppenish. He later worked as an orchardist. Everett loved doing things for others and always went out of his way to help.
Survivors include his wife, Audra Adkins of Yakima; two sons, Harold Adkins of Yakima and Lyle Adkins of Hoquiam; a daughter, Diane Castonquay of Elma, WA; three sisters, Neva Wyman of Glendive, MT, Belle Kruger of Yakima and Gladys Woods of Selah; five grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Friends may call at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 5 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Outlook Cemetery under the direction of Valley Hills Funeral Home.
Juan R. Basaldua
Toppenish -- Juan R. Basaldua, 87, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at Sunbridge Heathcare Center in Toppenish.
He was born march 20, 1914 in Mexico. Juan was raised in Texas. He moved to the valley about 18 months ago and worked in the agriculture industry.
Survivors include a son, Jessie Basaldua and a daughter, Lupe Basaldue, both of Toppenish, and several brothers and sisters all of Texas.
Rosary Vigil will be held Thursday, September 6, 2001 at 6 p.m. at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2001 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish with burial to follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Toppenish.

Maria Elida Cervantes
YAKIMA - Maria Elida Cervantes, 67, of Granger, passed away October 30, 2001 at Providence Yakima Medical Center.
Maria was born Sept. 22, 1933 in Edinburgh, Texas. She came to the Yakima Valley settling in Granger with her husband Nicholas Cervantes to raise their children and to provide a loving and stable home. Maria's goals in life were to see her family grow up happy and healthy. You could always see her at sporting events or concert events supporting her children. She not only touched her family with her love and support she would always be there to cheer others with a bright smile or a hug. Maria was always accepting of others for who they were and ready to invite them into the family.
Maria took great pleasure in working on craft projects to give away to family and friends. Her face would always shine brightly when you suggested going to the store to purchase craft items. She would also get excited if you were walking by her roses and stated how pretty they were, but her greatest pleasure in life was having her grandchildren around.
Survivors include her loving husband Nicholas Cervantes of Granger; a son Eduardo and wife Robin; two daughters, Michaela and Sylvia; four sons, Marco, Nicholas Jr. and wife Corina, Daniel and wife Laura, Everett and wife San Juanita; two brothers, Abelino Garza and Vicente Garza; five sisters, Lucila Martinez, Rosa Valencia, Maria Valencia, Delia Duran, and Emma Rodriguez; and nine grandchildren.
Rosary Vigil will be recited at 8:00 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 at the Zillah chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, WA. Interment to follow in the Zillah City Cemetery.

Margie J. Cole
Yakima, WA - Margie J. Cole, 74, passed away on Thursday Oct. 25, 2001 at her home in Yakima.
She was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on May 19, 1927 to Byron F. and Carrie J. (Moore) Cole. Margie worked for Yakima County as a deputy Sheriff for several years.
She is survived by two sisters, Bessie Bofman and Virginia Dohrman of Sunnyside; a sister-in-law, Ariel Cole of New Castle, WY; a brother, John Cole of Silver Creek, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Margie was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Jessie, Roosevelt, Floyd, Elmer, Ruby and Anna.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 29, 2001 at 11:00 am at the Fairview Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1010 S. Fair Ave., Yakima, with burial to follow at Tahoma Cemetery.

Greta Marie (Allen) Everts
Wapato, WA - Greta Marie (Allen) Everts, 93, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 7, 2001.
She was born in Grangeville, Idaho on November 23, 1907 to Reverend George Washington Allen and Mattie May (Dearing) Allen, where she spent her early years and was educated. Greta moved with her family to Yakima in the summer of 1920, where she eventually met and married William Henry Everts on July 26, 1927.
William was an orchardist and together they farmed for many years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 26, 1977. After the death of her husband, Greta remained in their Wapato home. She enjoyed cooking and spending time in the mountains with her family at their Cle Elum retreat.
Greta is survived by four sons, Floyd Everts and his wife, Alice, of Selah, William Everts and his wife, Jane, of Wapato, Clifford Everts and his wife, Joan, of Zillah and Donald Everts and his wife, Frances, of Wapato; a daughter, Shirley Kunst and her husband, John, of Wapato; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Everts of Moxee; a sister, Mabel Morris of Beaverton, Or.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Greta was preceded in death by her husband, William Everts, and 1 son, Alvin Everts.
Graveside services will be held on Friday October 12, 2001 at 11:00 am at the Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima. Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah, is in charge of arrangements.
