Alfonso Mendoza
Alfonso Mendoza Jr., 91, of Sunnyside died on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, in Wapato.
He was born Aug. 5, 1919 in Penjamo, Mexico.
He is survived by one daughter, Maria Isabelle Mendoza of Sunnyside; four sons, Lewis Mendoza of Sunnyside, Carlos Mendoza, Juan Mendoza and Manuel Mendoza, all of Prosser; and 11 grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser, with burial to follow at Prosser Cemetery.
Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
Lena Rundell
Lena C. Rundell, 93, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from a massive stroke. She was born November 9, 1917 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Wornie and Jewel (Dosher) Hurst. She was married to Travis Rundell on November 10, 1934 at Oklahoma Lane, Texas. She worked as a housekeeper and in the fruit warehouses.
Lena was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband Travis, son Herschel, two brothers: Walter Hurst, Charles Hurst, and sister, LoVysa Wilkins. She is survived by her son Travis Leonard (Sandra) Rundell, and daughter, Cathy Sturtevant, three brothers, Leon Hurst, Wiley Hurst and Ernie (Pat) Hurst, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Alan Tangeman
Alan Dale Tangeman, 60, of Yakima died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Tangeman was born in Yakima. He worked at local canneries.
Survivors include a brother, David Tangeman of Olympia; and a son, Lonnie Turner of Yakima.
Memorial services will be held this spring. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
Linda J. Flynn
Linda J. Flynn, 63, of Toppenish died Thursday, December 9, 2010 in Yakima. Mrs. Flynn was born in Seattle and grew up in Kittitas. She worked as a night billing clerk at Washington Beef in Toppenish.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Flynn of Toppenish; two brothers, Johnny Dunnick of Wisconsin and Charles C. Dunnick of Monroe, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Steigleder of Ellensburg, Dorothy Mooney of Idaho and Charlene Leininger of Alaska; 10 children and 19 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima.
Faye Lucy Muffett
Faye was born in Toppenish Washington on December 17, 1923 to Walter and Nellie Phillips. She graduated from Toppenish High School in 1941. In 1943 she married Bill Muffett. Bill, Faye and family members started Muffett and Son’s Irrigation in 1973. She loved cooking and for many years would cook lunch for the staff and farmers that happened to stop by. When Bill and Faye retired in 1984, they traveled the country in their motor home and would spend the winters in California. After Bill died in 1988, Faye spent the winter months, for several years, in her Park Model, in Southern California where friends and family would sometimes visit.
Faye was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband Bill, a daughter, Sharon Muffett and her sister, Hazel Ross. Faye is survived by her brother Marvin Bower and his wife Laura of Buena, WA.; sons, Mike Muffett and his wife Carol, of Buena; Pat Muffett of Eat Sound, WA; son Rod Muffett and his wife LuEila of Toppenish, WA; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. She was a big part of many lives and will be remembered for her love of a great shopping bargain, playing cards, her dogs, family and friends.
Services will be held later in March. Notice will be published prior to the service. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
Harold Friedrich
Harold Friedrich, 93, of Zillah died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Toppenish. Mr. Friedrich worked as a laborer for many in a sawmill and irrigation.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Wilma Boob; and a stepson, Randy King, both of Zillah.
No formal services will be held at this time. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah.
Richard Clayton Poulin
Richard Clayton Poulin, 80, of Selah died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at home. Mr. Poulin was born in Yakima.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Poulin; a son, Rick Poulin of Selah; a daughter, Diane Poulin of Yakima; a sister, Shirley Rohn of Yakima; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
William Bryant Moon
William B. Moon, 84, died Dec. 7, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Bill was born in Gould, Oklahoma September 7, 1926 to William A. Moon and Velma Whitten. He left high school early to join the Marine Corps during World War II, leaving his mother to accept his diploma at graduation. He served in San Diego as well as Pier 91 in Seattle. He met his bride, Janet Pittman, while on leave in the Lake Chelan area. They married nearby in Manson on Nov. 7, 1947. Bill began working for Montgomery Ward while the couple resided in the Wenatchee area. In 1962 they moved to Yakima, relocating to Gleed and moving into their current home in the fall of 1963. The family began attending Memorial Bible Church. Bill retired from Montgomery Ward after 30 years with the company.
Bill loved the mountain ranges of Washington. He spent many hours hunting, fishing and cutting wood. If something needed to be fixed Bill was the one to call. He would build, fix or lend a hand to any project. He was also a long time member of the Lower Naches Valley Lion’s Club.
Bill is survived by his wife, Janet Moon of Yakima; three sons, Stan (Sheila) Moon of Richland, Gary (Vickie) Moon and Russ Moon (Darla) of Yakima; two daughters, Paula Moon of Naches and Carol (Terry) Baldridge of Lake Stevens, Washington; eight grandchildren, Kyle (Gina), Michelle, Tré (Kelly), Jon (Jeni), Wendy (Devin), Ross (Stacy), Shane (Vicky), Jacob and Natalie; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joey, Hunter, Christopher, Alexander, Ethan and Aiden; two sisters, Beulah Loomis of Yakima and Lucille Simmons of Wenatchee; and long time woodcutting buddy Dick Drew.
The eldest of four siblings, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Moon of Okanogan.
Husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill Moon, you will not be forgotten. We love you.
Service to be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13 at Memorial Bible Church, 111 Old Stage Way, Yakima, WA 98908. Private burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
