Peter Williams
Peter Williams of Yakima, Wash. died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 after a brief illness. Peter was born on August 8, 1950 in Greenville, Miss. to Mrs. Otha Stewart McGary.
His family moved to Mellwood, Ark. where he attended school. At age sixteen Peter joined Job Corps. After completing Job Corps he began working at various occupations.
He was loyal to friends and family, willing to help them whenever possible. Peter enjoyed traveling to watch the Seattle Mariners as often as possible.
Peter was a member of Grace Temple in Yakima.
Peter leaves to mourn his passing five brothers, Curtis of Michigan, Junior of Arkansas, Troy and Ellis of Chicago, Otis (June) of Yakima and one sister Essie of Chicago, a host of nieces and nephews, Rev. Sammy Trotter (Elberth) of Pasco, Rev. John Bess (Alma) and the congregation of Grace Temple. The family would like to thank the staff of Yakima Memorial Hospital for their care of Peter during his final illness. A memorial service for Peter will be held at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 12 noon.
Helen Stiltner
Helen passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 in Yakima. She was born October 16, 1927 to Otto Ludwig Miland and Magdeline Hafer in Selah, Washington.
Helen married Leland James Kelly on October 31, 1942 and was married to him until 1970 when he passed away. She remarried James G. Stiltner on January 18, 1975 until his death in 2009. She lived in Zillah, Toppenish and Centralia and moved to Union Gap in 1979 where she became active with the Citizen Patrol in Union Gap. She was a homemaker and loved to volunteer at Providence Hospital.
Some of Helen’s favorite activities included gardening, feeding the birds, ducks and squirrels, walking with her friends at the Valley Mall every morning and ending with a breakfast together at the Old Town Station, and monthly lunches at a new restaurant with friends. She so loved her flowers and keeping her yard manicured. She went through about a million bags of birdseed. Helen always waited for the ducks to return, especially one named Old Mama that had a bum leg and came back year after year. She also adopted a family of squirrels that enjoyed feasting on peanuts. Helen also loved Christmas and made each and every family member a special popcorn tree. It was one of the high lights to Christmas Eve.
Helen is survived by her sons; Leland J. Kelly (Jerleen) of McCall, ID, David A Kelly (Lynda) of Post Falls, ID, Charles M. Kelly (Lynn) of Zillah, Raymond D. Kelly (Charleen) of West Virginia; daughter Patricia Russell (Kevin) of Zillah; brother Delbert Miland (Phyllis) Spokane, WA; sisters, Shirley Kelly of Bellevue, WA and Joyce Johnson (Clarence) of Eagle Idaho, 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband’s Leland Kelly (1970) and James Stiltner (2009); brothers- Theodore, Wayne, Marshall and sister Geraldine Clark, Children-Denny (at age 6), Karen Clark (1981), Roger Kelly (2000), Peggy Kelly Blechschmidt, Munson (2004), as well as 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Helen was loved my many and will be greatly missed. Gone but never forgotten. We love you Mom.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Christian Worship Center, 204 Cheyne Road, in Zillah. Valley Hills Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
William Althoff
William Althoff died Dec 6, 2010 in Yakima. He was born Sep 12, 1917 to Alvin and Mary (Brennen) Althoff in Indiana.
In his early years, he received training as a carpenter from his father and worked in that trade for 5 years. Later in life, he built several houses. Bill was a Boy Scout, Eagle Scout and later a Scoutmaster. Scouting was a tradition as his father was a Scoutmaster, four sons were scouts (to include 2 Eagle Scouts) and both grandsons were scouts. After graduating from Gordon College in MA, he went to Berkley Baptist Divinity School CA where he met the love of his life, Deloris, and was married 63 years.
Bill was an ordained Baptist minister and was a pastor in IA and OK before coming to Yakima in 1952 and built Fruitvale Baptist church. Even though he left the ministry and retired as a DSHS supervisor after 23 years, he practiced as an interim pastor in many capacities thru the rest of his life. As he retired, he built his last house and planted a Rainier cherry orchard. For years, he traveled many places around the world with his wife Deloris.
William took pride in his 4 sons and talked about them frequently. Gordon (NY) was Executive VP in construction and responsible for the WTC cleanup. Currently the project manager for the new World Trade Center. Roger (Zillah) RN and Retired Army Nurse Corps LTC. (Of note, Rev. Althoff married Roger & Carmen (Cordero) 36 years ago and both lost their fathers on Dec 6). Glenn (South Bend, WA) chemical engineer with some overseas assignments. He will be coming back from India for the funeral. Kim (Tacoma) is a Petroleum instrumentation engineer. After family, Bill’s big passion in life was fishing. At one point he had won so many trophies in Bass fishing that he wasn’t allowed into competition any more.
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents and sisters Mildred & Orene. He is survived by his wife Deloris, 4 sons, 4 grand children, his sister Leora and daughters-in law Mary Lou, Carmen, Janice & Lauren. At the last of his life, he became a “favorite” resident at Living Care Center on Summitview.
Our family wants to thank the staff there and invite them and residents to his ceremony of life on Dec 11 at 3 PM at Meyer Auditorium 215 N. 40th Ave. Yakima, WA.

Romalee Pugsley
Romalee Monk-Pugsley, 77, of Yakima Washington died peacefully, December 3, 2010 in her daughter’s home after a prolonged illness.
Ms. Pugsley was born on September 16, 1933 in Haxtun Colorado, a small farming community and was one of 7 children. She was educated in Haxtun, Denver and Richland Washington, after her family moved to Richland during World War II. She also attended Yakima Valley Community College later in life.
As a young woman, Roma began working as a supervisor for the phone company and for the majority of her working years, worked as a Medical Stenographer for Yakima Valley School in Selah, Washington from which she retired in 1998.
She married Daniel Byrd Pugsley in 1955 and they were amicably divorced in 1973, continuing to raise three children together. The children consider the extraordinary family life provided after the marriage ended, to be the greatest of all gifts. She was an extremely devoted mother and always considered her children’s needs first and foremost.
Roma was gifted with a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She possessed a sharp wit and exceptional sense-of-humor. She especially loved jazz, treasured fine literature and art, collected antiques, made her house a home and enjoyed gardening. She cherished a job well done and definitely stepped to the beat of her own inimitable drummer.
She was preceded in death by two siblings in very early childhood, as well as her parents Jesse Monk in 1988 and Florence Kinzie-Monk in 1998 and more recently, a beloved brother Verle Monk of Kennewick, Washington and brother-in-law Allen Wisner of Aberdeen Washington.
She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Wisner of Aberdeen Washington, sister-in-law Judy Monk of Yelm Washington, brother Gale Monk and sister-in-law Jovi Monk, of Kennewick Washington, brother Maurice Monk and sister-in-law Carol Monk, of Moses Lake Washington, daughter Mendie Pugsley and son Dan Pugsley of Yakima Washington, daughter Jane Pugsley of Portland Oregon, the children’s father Dan B. Pugsley of Naches Washington, nephews and nieces Jeff Heard, Deborah Swaney, Sarah Vanderhoek, Scott Monk, Kasey Monk, Monte LeMieux-Brink,Chris Monk, Edward Monk, Christine Dailey, Mark Monk, their spouses and significant others, 23 great nieces and nephews and 16 great, great nieces and nephews.
Valley Hills Funeral Home of Terrace Heights, assisted the family with arrangements and a Burial Service was held at City View Cemetery in Pasco, Washington on December 11, 2010. Wilma Sue Maggard
Wilma Sue Maggard, 75, of Yakima died Wednesday December 1, 2010, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Maggard was born in Baxter Springs, Kan., and lived in the Yakima area for 52 years. She and her husband owned and operated Maggard Fruit for 35 years.
Survivors include her husband, Bert Maggard of Yakima; two sons, Michael Maggard of Yakima and Rodney Maggard of Colorado; two daughters, Nina Blaine of Everett, Wsah., and Deborah Christiansen of Connecticut; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
