Larry Taylor Jones
Larry was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Elois Isbell and Sam Jones. Larry was the first of five children, and the (spoiled) only boy; until Jay came along 21 years later.
Larry moved to the Yakima area in 1996 where he cooked at several restaurants and as a camp-cook for Chinook Pass Outfitters. Larry was known for his BBQ, but his real passion has always been working with horses.
Larry worked with horses from New York to Washington State and many, many places in between. He was very proud of his years spent working with Mr. Lucein Laurin. He worked with champion Appaloosas, thoroughbred racehorses, pack-horses and any other horses that needed working with. Larry shared his love of horses with everyone. He showed horses at the fair, and loved teaching others, especially kids, horsemanship.
Jonesy, aka Harold Smith, aka T.C. (Tom Cat) Jones also appreciated the ladies. He was a good dancer and was full of that old southern charm. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.
Larry referred to the Nile Loop as "four miles of Heaven," and the folks of the Nile referred to Larry as their "social director." Larry would just "show up" for dinner, and sometimes he would "carry" dinner over to you. He was often seen lugging his huge commercial-size BBQ behind his truck, heading to one community function or another. He had a special knack for bringing people together. Whether he was planning hunting and fishing trips or cutting and packaging the game, or organizing the annual Fourth of July Pig Feed, Larry was the "Pro-Moter."
Larry is survived by his mother, Elois Isbell; his sons, Larry Taylor Jones, Jr. (Dee) and Jody Jones; brother, James Isbell (Jay); sisters, Sammie Holladay and Diane Shaffer; and four grandchildren; all of Oklahoma, and sister Georgetta Sartin of Yakima.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Sam Jones, and his son, Micky Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Woodshed, in the Nile Valley, on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at 6 p.m.
True to his nature of being in two places at one time, Larry will forever rest on Chinook Pass and in the family plot in Huntsville, Alabama.
We're gonna miss ya Jonesy!
"Don't add to or subtract from, this is exactly what I say."
