Glen J. Worman
Glen J. Worman, 84, passed away at home on January 14, 2011, in the arms of his loving wife and his Granddaughter at his side. Glen was born September 13, 1926 in Yakima to Glen and Sarah Ellen Worman, the youngest of four.
Glen and Mary Pannell were married on July 12, 1947 at the Ahtanum Pioneer Church. They made their home in the Ahtanum Valley for the next 53 years, during which time their two children, Marilyn and Ken were born.
Glen was an outdoor and sports enthusiast, enjoying boating, camping, waterskiing, hunting and archery. But his most beloved sport was fast-pitch softball. Glen was an outstanding catcher, playing for teams including John Deere, Thorns Drapery, Budweiser and others. While playing for Budweiser, their team won the state tournament in 1958. Glen was known by the softball locals and fans as "June," and was inducted into the Yakima Softball Hall of Fame in 1986.
Glen completed four years of Carpenter's Apprenticeship and was issued his journeyman's card in 1958, and became a member of the Carpenter's Union of Western Washington Local Chapter #770. He was always a hardworking, loyal employee, full of enthusiasm for his profession. During his years as a carpenter, Glen worked on some of the largest jobs in Yakima including Memorial Hospital and the Yakima Junior College. Glen took great pride in woodworking and designed and built much of the perfect, beautiful furniture that fills their home. Over the years, he also designed and built many unique pieces for his family and friends.
After Glen retired in 1988, he and Mary spent many months enjoying traveling throughout the U.S., Canada and Alaska on their Goldwing Motorcycle with fellow Charter members of the Chapter M Goldwing Club. They hosted many of the club's social events at their home, with Glen always being the life of the party. After two-wheeling, they traveled the country in their fifth-wheel and traded the cold Washington winters for the warmth of the Quartzsite, AZ sun with close friends Arnie and Jean Jackson. One of his favorite hobbies was ATV-ing through the desert with his pal Arnie. Glen and Mary returned in 2002, moving to Sunland Estates along the Columbia River but eventually returned to Yakima in 2004, residing in Selah.
Glen was a devoted husband of 63 years to Mary, a protector and teacher to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in each of them the importance of everything he was so passionate about. He was blessed with so many wonderful friends and worships their true friendship. Anyone who had the benefit of knowing Glen would be left with a lasting impression, whether a funny story, joke or a life lesson. He was greatly admired, respected and loved.
Glen leaves behind his wife Mary, one daughter Marilyn Sandall, three grandchildren, Tiffany (Danny) Englert, Crystal (Craig) Worman-Bunting, Justin (Ariel) Worman, eight great-grandchildren, Sean (Lanea) Wise, Nicholle, Jordan and Dillon Englert, Ethan, Teryn and Liam Bunting, and Tatum Worman, brother Ed Worman, sister Helen Leonard of San Diego, special Aunt Iva Andrews, many nieces and nephews and a host of great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Sarah Worman, inlaws Aud and Gertrude Pannell, son Kenneth Worman, sister and brother-in-law Edith and Jim Hamar and best friend Arnie Jackson.
His family wishes to thank the nurses at Yakima Regional, including Yoli, as well as Yakima Regional Hospice Nurse Joanne Stillwaugh, for the comforting and supportive care shown to Glen, Mary and their family, the staff at Landmark Care Center for their kindness and support, the therapists at Landmark for their devotion to Glen's recovery including Darin, and Yakima Regional's Rehab floor staff.
