Hazel Irene Owen
Hazel Irene Owen, 89, of Yakima passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Yakima Valley Memorial. Hazel was born January 13, 1921 in Sprague, Washington to Frank and Fay Daley.
In 1954, Hazel married Jack Lane Owen and they made their home in Toppenish. Hazel worked as a nurse at Toppenish Hospital for many years. She loved being a nurse and in 1998 they moved to Yakima, which is where she lived until passing away.
Hazel enjoyed going to the casino and having dinner out and shopping and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Shirley (Sonny) Purdy of Sunnyside, Bonnie (Glen) Head of Yakima, Wanda Owen of Olympia, and Sandi Damson of Yakima; daughter-in-law, Lucille; 14 grandkids, 26 great-grandkids, and 15 great great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Humphrey; grandson Robert Humphrey; grandson Ryan Owen; great grandson Johnny Hanson; sisters, Gladys Rishor, Bertha Thomas, Margaret Laymance; two brothers, Ray Daley and and Roy Daley.
Visitation will be offered 10AM-1PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral will start at 1PM also on Wednesday at the funeral home in Sunnyside. Private burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
Reverend Wesley F. Jeffrey
The Rev. Wesley Frank Jeffery, 91, of Yakima died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Jeffery was born in North Bend, Kan., and served as a minister until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jeffery of Yakima; three sons, David Jeffery of Newberg, Ore., Dennis Jeffery of Lakewood, Colo., and Anthony Maier of Federal Way, Wash.; three daughters, Pat Haworth of Seattle, Lauralinn Sents of Snohomish, Wash., and Merrilou Harrison of Yakima; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mountainview Christian Fellowship, Yakima.
Roger R. Guerrero
Roger R. Guerrero, 22, of Yakima died Saturday, February 26, 2011.
Mr. Guerrero was born in San Diego, Calif. He graduated from Selah High School and attended Yakima Valley Community College and the Art Institute of Seattle.
Survivors include two brothers, Lucio Guerrero, Isaac Guerrero; and five sisters, Denise Vera, Martha Guerrero, Jessica Guerrero, Jennifer Guerrero and Alex Guerrero.
The funeral and viewing will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Iglesia En Movimiento, 102 S. 11th Ave. in Yakima. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.
Robert G. Luper
Robert G. Luper, 78, of Toppenish died Monday, February 21, 2011.
Mr. Luper was born in Granger. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include a son, Robert Coleman Luper of Grandview; two daughters, Pam Blackburn and Tamela Mork, both of Zillah; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
At Mr. Luper's request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah.
Jacob Milburn
Jacob (Jake) Milburn 83, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with his Savior February 26, 2011.
Jake was born in Custer, Kentucky on December 24, 1927 to Robert and Lulu Milburn.
Jake proudly served his country from 1946 to 1972. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. In July 1954 Jake met the love of his life, Leola Kelly of Granger, at the McChord AFB air show. They married on August 6th 1955 at the Lowry AFB chapel in Denver, Colorado. During their 56 years of marriage and their life in the Air Force, Jake’s career took them many places around the world to include: France, Japan, Okinawa, and numerous places throughout the U.S.
In 1972, after 23 years of military service and retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, Jake and his family settled in Zillah where he farmed for the next 38 years.
Jake enjoyed vacationing with family, trips to Hawaii and Pacific Beach, but he was always most content at home on the farm. Jake truly adored and loved his grandchildren. He also loved his church and he loved his church family.
Jake is survived by his wife Leola, son Robert Milburn of Zillah; daughter Rebecca Dols and husband, Loren of Seattle; daughter Bonnie Foulkes and husband, Bill of Tustin, California; grandchildren Jacob Cox, Casey Cox, Breanna Bjur and Rebecca Foulkes and his sister Mary Stammel of Zillah.
Visiting hours will be from 3 - 7 p.m. Friday March 4, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 5th at the Zillah 1st Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Zillah City Cemetery. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
Curtis W. Walker
Curtis Walter Walker was born March 12, 1943 to Edward A. Walker and Minnie L. Walker in Lynnwood, CA. After completing his education, he enlisted in the Air Force serving at home and abroad (Japan), with his new bride LaWanda. He worked at Boeing and then completed his Air Craft Mechanic training, then Curtis and LaWanda had a son, Curtis Walter Walker Jr.
Upon reflection, he stated that the happiest moment of his life was when his son was born.
Mr. Walker was employed with the City of Zillah as the Police Chief and then as the City Maintenance Supervisor, from which he retired. Mr. Walker was a member of Hermes #185 Masonic Lodge of Granger, the Scottish-Rite Masons, Masada Shriners, and the Royal Order Jesters.
Curtis has many people whom love him…his only brother, Harley Walker, many relatives and friends.
His son would like to thank everyone who was a part of his father’s life and those whom assisted him during his illness. Special thanks to Liz Robertson, Kathy Hulen, Kim York, Pam Otto, Consuelo Rodriguez, Mr. & Mrs. Brian and Fred Ermey. If we have forgotten anyone, we apologize.
A message for a special grandson, Bret Cayden Hoover, from Grandpa Walker, “I love you more!”.
