She had many wonderful childhood memories of working beside her Father and Mother, gathering maple tree sap from maple trees to make their syrup, riding her horse to and from school, gathering wild honey and nuts and cooking for threshing crews. She was a cheerleader and played basketball in high school. Her family eventually settled in Stillwell, Oklahoma.

She loved painting scenes from her childhood memories as well. She and her husband Charlie raised a happy family of five children, enjoying many camping, fishing and hiking trips in the mountains.
After the death of her husband, Charlie, she took up golf at the age of 75, enjoying great golf games with family and friends in many of the courses in Oregon and Washington. Gennie began learning to play the banjo and organ at age 76. One of her greatest joys was cooking. Family and friends were always welcome at her table.
